  1. In January of 1933, Adolf Hitler comes to power in Germany. Immediately, he begins to ban all political parties, except the Nazi Party, and dismiss the Jewish citizens from medical, legal government, and teaching positions. Just a few months later, Otto Frank decides to begin the process if moving his family to safety, in the Netherlands. Sadly, the reign of terror that Adolf Hitler and the Nazi party would bring forth was just beginning. Increasingly strict laws targeting jews led to the Holocaust; by beginning with minor restrictions, each increase in severity seemed to be a step toward the unlimited horror.
  2. The Nazis have invaded the Netherlands and once they were in control, the Nazis set up a brutal police force, the Gestapo, to administer laws to isolate Dutch Jews from the rest of the Dutch population. These restrictions include them having to be quite the ones in hiding. If they would have gotten caught, they would have to work in the camps day and night non stop listening to the Nazis orders, and force the Frank girls to attend an all-Jewish school. Additionally, all Jewish people were required to wear the yellow star of david. The purpose of the star of david is that the Nazis can see where the Jews are in a large group of people. As we found out in the play Anne and peter have different views on being forced to wear the star of david. Anne believed that it would show who she really was, and she didn't want to throw it out or burn it. However, Peter had the opposite thought of the yellow star. Peter had believed that it was a really bad thing to his family, and he wanted to throw it out or burn it. Along with the way peter felt he also felt that it was taking over him and he wouldn't have any rights.
  3. On July 6,1942- The Franks went into hiding after receiving an order for margot to report to a labor camp. They hid in the attic and it was above rooms in Mr. Franks workplace with the help of close friends. The Van Daans join them. This forced the franks to stay in hiding and they were not allowed to move while the people were working. They weren't able to move until they left the workplace. They were very scared because they didn't want to get caught. The Franks and everyone with them had been very terrified since the Nazis have been going around looking for Jews.
  4. The Frank family was in hiding for twenty-five months. During their twenty-five month stay in the annex, the Frank family was subjected to many different challenges. Some of the challenges that the Frank family faced were that they wouldn't be able to walk around until the people downstairs have left. The Franks wouldn't be able to eat, go use the bathroom, and they would have to be very quiet. Perhaps one of the most difficult challenges was that they wouldn't be able to walk until a specific time. They also wouldn't be able to move around or get comfortable again since they were in hiding. They were in very uncomfortable places and couldn't even adjust.
  5. In 1947, Anne’s diary is published and over the next few years it is translated and published in five different countries. To date, it has been translated into more than seventy languages. Anne’s diary gives people an inside look at how they were living while being in hiding. Another thing that Anne’s diary does is give a background knowledge of what they were doing to survive. Anne alwayed wrote in her diary for fun. She also did it so if anyone found it they would know what the Franks had to deal with Sadly, in September 1944, just before the war would end, the hiding place of the Franks is discovered and with the families are discovered. Many of the Jews have died, about six million have died.
