As it was, a great many rings were chipped away and fell off their mail hauberks that soon were reduced to shreds. That finally permitted their swords to bite into their flesh; and they took wounds all over their bodies. Their blood flowed freely and stained the field and trees around them red, but as each considered the other a rash and bold fighter, they continued attacking one another with everything they had.

They carried on with the fierce, wild struggle, hacking away at their brown mail coats with their swords. Holding the large pommels tightly in their grips, they showered their chins with heavy, whining blows which resulted in the breaking of two trusty swords that day. Just as quickly as one of the giant's swords broke in his grip, he as quickly drew out another one he had hanging at his side (he had brought three swords with him to the battle). And each time, he lunged at Lancelot and began fighting with him all over again.
