- "Dissipate," said the fey mage, casually waving a hand at an incoming lightning bolt. It froze in the air, struggling against the faerie's will, before dissipating in a puff of static. She waited at the back of her cave, wings effortlessly keeping her in the air, as the young human mage prepared another spell, determination burning in her eyes.
- "Flame helix!" she shouted, two twisting geysers of flame shooting from her mouth as she spoke. The fey yawned, covering her mouth with one hand while stifling the flame with the other.
- "Two minutes, Ms. Embermage," said the fey, summoning a watch from the aether and tapping it pointedly. "You have two minutes to get past my defenses, or I shall reject you. I have no place for inferior students." Doubt flickered across the pyromancer's face before she redoubled her efforts, charging forward with an aura of flame. The fey summarily waved a wand, and a cold wind blew through the cave, strong enough to knock the mage off her feet. On and on, she kept trying to reach the fey, only to slip and tumble.
- Finally, she dismissed the flame and walked, contritely, up to the fae.
- "Favored spirit of the fey, would you kindly let me hurt you?" The faerie's eyes lit up.
- "Of course, child of man." She took the human's hand in her own, letting the girl's flame burn her hand. "And just in time too. I shall enjoy training you. Class begins at dawn."
