  1.
  2. 7:54 PM <•Antioch|GM> Frank Smith, recently triggered, finds himself stepping out of his home for the first time, supplies of canned and nonperishable food running low. He's tested his power within the confines of his own home, the additional safety afforded to him by his parahuman ability tempering his fear and paranoia.
  3. 7:54 PM <•Antioch|GM> Even now, in his improvised costume of leather jacket and goggles, he glances left and right. It occurs to him he's yet to settle on a cape name...
  4. 7:55 PM <•Antioch|GM> ((Looking at your character's personality, I see him being inclined, at this juncture, towards solo heroics. Would you agree?))
  5. 7:57 PM → Serk joined (Serk@net-gc5sjl.co.comcast.net)
  6. 7:58 PM <Ilidirim> (Yeah)
  7. 8:01 PM <•Antioch|GM> It's his first opportunity to put his powers to the test, and he's wandering the streets of downtown Terre Haute, looking for any disturbances, any problem that might be put to rest with a parahuman's intervention.
  8. 8:01 PM <•Antioch|GM> ((Please, roll an Awareness roll for me.))
  9. 8:02 PM <Ilidirim> (What dice is that? d6?)
  10. 8:03 PM <•Antioch|GM> ((You'd use the syntax $roll 2h6+1))
  11. 8:03 PM Ilidirim → Ilidirim|Frank
  12. 8:04 PM <Ilidirim|Frank> $roll 2h6+1
  13. 8:04 PM <[ATM]> Ilidirim|Frank (3) [4] +1 = 5
  14. 8:04 PM <Ilidirim|Frank> $roll 2h6+1
  15. 8:04 PM <[ATM]> Ilidirim|Frank (3) [4] +1 = 5
  16. 8:04 PM <•Antioch|GM> ((Roll two d6, pick the highest, and add 1 to the result. The +1 is given to you by your Wits stat, and the extra die is given to you by your Awareness skill.))
  17. 8:05 PM <Ilidirim|Frank> $roll 2d6
  18. 8:05 PM <[ATM]> Ilidirim|Frank [2] [6] = 8
  19. 8:05 PM <•Antioch|GM> His path takes him along Park Lane, one of the central thoroughfares of the city. It's a busy weekday afternoon, just after lunch. One of the busier buildings is a bank - the parking lot is about half-full, and so is the inside of the bank, visible through large glass windows. They see two vans pull up right at the bank's doors and stop.
  20. 8:05 PM <•Antioch|GM> ((Ah, no, I was just explaining what $roll 2h6+1 meant. No worries.))
  21. 8:05 PM <Ilidirim|Frank> (<_>)
  22. 8:06 PM <•Antioch|GM> ** He sees two vans pull up right at the bank's doors and stop.
  23. 8:06 PM <•Antioch|GM> They aren't, in and of themselves, particularly suspicious, but Frank's paranoia gives him pause. ||
  24. 8:07 PM <Ilidirim|Frank> ...
  25. 8:12 PM <Ilidirim|Frank> Frank comes to a stop as he sees the two vans pull up, his paranoia telling him that it could be a number of things varying from bank robbers to terrorists and that this could be his chance. He couldn't be sure though as nothing had happened yet, but if it did he would be ready. For now though he crouched behind one of the cars and waited.
  26. 8:13 PM <Ilidirim|Frank> He began to palm his M9 while doing so. ||
  27. 8:16 PM <•Antioch|GM> The vans have been carefully made nondescript - to the point of being overly suspicious, which sets his teeth on edge. When a door cracks open, his senses are at full alert.
  28. 8:16 PM <•Antioch|GM> A practiced eye allows him to spot the poorly concealed guns being toted by the four men, one being... impressively bulky, visibly bulging beneath his forest-green coat.
  29. 8:16 PM <•Antioch|GM> The four men stride into the bank, the one at the front shoving the double-doors wide, firing shots into the air without hesitation. They're acting quickly. ||
  30. 8:18 PM → Solaire, JustLurking and Whisp|Wilder joined
  31. 8:22 PM <Ilidirim|Frank> He was right! Haha, he was right! There was a sort of validation in being correct, before he quickly realized that he shouldn't be happy about this, especially since he was easily outnumbered. He had to act, so he stood up and began to move past the car towards the bank. In a swift motion, he pulled his M9 out and pointed it, not at the biggest one
  32. 8:22 PM <Ilidirim|Frank> but one of the men behind him. A moment of indecision struck him as his paranoia begged the question,
  33. 8:27 PM → Lex|Jessica joined (uid137968@charlton.irccloud.com)
  34. 8:28 PM <Ilidirim|Frank> "What if it didn't work" and he put himself in harms way? Did he really want to do this? Yes, yes he did his own voice answered to the paranoia before he stowed his gun away and pulled out a clip from his thick jacket pocket and imbued the clip itself with his power before chucking it hard towards the feet of the men. If he was right, which he hope
  35. 8:28 PM <Ilidirim|Frank> d he was the impact would be enough not only to trigger the effect of the clip, but of every bullet in the clip. He could only hope however, as he moved forward and attempted to hide behind another car after throwing it. ||
  36. 8:30 PM <•Antioch|GM> ((Accuracy - Dexterity roll - $roll 1d6))
  37. 8:30 PM <Ilidirim|Frank> $roll 1d6
  38. 8:30 PM <[ATM]> Ilidirim|Frank [3] = 3
  39. 8:31 PM Ilidirim|Frank → Ilidirim|Frank
  40. 8:31 PM <•Antioch|GM> He approaches the bank as quickly as he can, pushing a door open and lobbing the clip at the feet of the robbers, much like a grenade.
  41. 8:31 PM <•Antioch|GM> $roll 2d6 Athletics
  42. 8:31 PM <[ATM]> Antioch|GM "Athletics" [6] [5] = 11
  43. 8:39 PM <•Antioch|GM> They catch sight of him as he enters, while two of them are brandishing guns, forcing the bank's customers to fill a bag with valuables - another headed towards the back with one of the tellers held captive, and the one with the large gun surveying the lobby.
  44. 8:39 PM <•Antioch|GM> They leap out of the way of the clip, still lightly buffeted by the concussion and the impact but able to maintain their balance, while the civilians cowering on the floor get the worse end of the deal, one of them sent skidding into a column along the tile floor.
  45. 8:41 PM <•Antioch|GM> "CAPE!" one of the robbers shouts, the one with the large gun and one of the others training their firearms on you. The other grabs one of the civilians on the floor, putting them in a headlock, raising a pistol to their temple.
  46. 8:41 PM <•Antioch|GM> "Just turn around and step outside," the apparent leader says, "forget you ever saw us."
  47. 8:41 PM <•Antioch|GM> ((Awareness roll - 2h6+1))
  48. 8:42 PM <Ilidirim|Frank> $2h6+1
  49. 8:43 PM <Ilidirim|Frank> $roll 2h6+1
  50. 8:43 PM <[ATM]> Ilidirim|Frank [5] (5) +1 = 6
  51. 8:44 PM <•Antioch|GM> The pistol itself isn't particularly large, Frank realizes. It's got a bulky, modified clip. Tinkertech of some sort.
  52. 8:44 PM <•Antioch|GM> He shudders, thinking of the bomb that put him in that state. ||
  53. 8:49 PM <Ilidirim|Frank> His eyes widen at sight of everything that just went wrong. His plan didn't work, and now not only was there a hostage being threatened right in front of him, there was something in front of him liable to give him a PTSD flashback. Fucking tinkers, always messing shit up for people like him.
  54. 8:51 PM Thalia → Thaliaway
  55. 8:52 PM <Ilidirim|Frank> Theres a certain way things work, villian robs bank, good guy might catch villian, civillians usually unharmed. Like a big play everyone was in on, and he had messed it up. The man told him to back away and leave, and despite the self-loathing he was sure to treat himself to, he was only complicating things.
  56. 8:55 PM <Ilidirim|Frank> He knew that something was going to go wrong, why didn't he just go get some groceries? It didn't matter now, as he kept tried to keep his focus on the guys pointing at him with their guns, hoping they didn't shoot him as he backed up slowly
  57. 8:56 PM <Ilidirim|Frank> ||
  58. 9:04 PM → Stoic joined (Stoic@net-n3k0uk.nj.comcast.net)
  59. 9:07 PM <•Antioch|GM> As you back away, you look at the situation unfolding in front of you, the glass double-doors bumping into your back as you slowly retreat.
  60. 9:07 PM <•Antioch|GM> "What the fuck?!" one of the civilians in the bank yells out. "Some fucking worthless hero you are."
  61. 9:07 PM <•Antioch|GM> ((Awareness roll))
  62. 9:07 PM <Ilidirim|Frank> $roll 2h6+1
  63. 9:07 PM <[ATM]> Ilidirim|Frank [4] (4) +1 = 5
  64. 9:10 PM <•Antioch|GM> Intended or not, his outburst draws the attention of the robbers in the lobby. They take their eyes off you for crucial moments, the man holding a hostage whipping his gun around to point to the man insulting you. ||
  65. 9:17 PM ⇐ Stoic quit (Stoic@net-n3k0uk.nj.comcast.net) Quit: http://www.kiwiirc.com/ - A hand crafted IRC client
  66. 9:22 PM <Ilidirim|Frank> "What the fuck yourself guy?" Frank thought to himself, his paranoia ticking again. What if this guy was in on it, huh? They were just trying to get him to do something stupid weren't they, no. No, fuck that. He was smarter than them wasn't he? Not some bank robbing thug! They wouldn't fool him. With that thought, he would continue backing out the
  67. 9:22 PM <Ilidirim|Frank> double doors, and when he was clear he would try to run, away from the thugs and their cars. They probably had people in them, fuck that, and fuck them for being in on it. ||
  68. 9:24 PM <•Antioch|GM> He legs it out of the bank as soon as he's clear of the door, briefly noting that the vans are already absent from their streetside parking. ||
  69. 9:28 PM <Ilidirim|Frank> Despite not seeing the cars, he kept running, back to the parking lot and ducking down behind a car, looking around, up down, left right, everywhere. It was weird that the get-away vans were gone, what could he even do now? Try what he did before? Unlikely. Think, think he had to think, maybe there was something he could do? Or was he really that i
  70. 9:28 PM <Ilidirim|Frank> n over his head?
  71. 9:28 PM <Ilidirim|Frank> ||
  72. 9:32 PM <•Antioch|GM> The vans, logically, should come back to pick up the four robbers. Given time and resources, neither of which are particularly plentiful, Frank could prepare a trap for the getaway vans. They'd be moving quickly, as he already knows from firsthand experience, especially with the inevitable police or parahuman response in mind. ||
  73. 9:37 PM ⇐ Solaire and JustLurking quit
  74. 9:52 PM <Ilidirim|Frank> Despite the setbacks of today, Frank still desperately wanted to do something, but the problem was, he diffused bombs, not set traps for bank robbing crooks. He knew he had a couple of options. One of those options being to just run away, he wasn't qualified for this, not at all and the cars were gone, so maybe it was all a setup to try and get him
  75. 9:52 PM <Ilidirim|Frank> in trouble. The second option, which is what he planned on going with at first was looking around the parking lot for anything he could imbue to put in the way of the getaway cars, maybe stop them from getting away. The third option was to imbue something heavy and chuck it at the car as it went to pick the robbers up, maybe knocking out the drive
  76. 9:52 PM <Ilidirim|Frank> r in the process. Maybe the parking lot wasn't it the best shape? Either way, he had to look before choosing, before crossing any 'roads' ||
  77. 9:53 PM <•Antioch|GM> ((Awareness))
  78. 9:54 PM <Ilidirim|Frank> $roll 2h6+1
  79. 9:54 PM <[ATM]> Ilidirim|Frank [3] (3) +1 = 4
  80. 9:56 PM soulpelt| → soulpelt|sleep
  81. 9:57 PM <•Antioch|GM> The parking lot is kept in decent condition, matching the polished exterior of the bank. Gravel and mulch are the options that seem most readily at hand - if he wanted something heavy, he might have to tear the bumper off of an old-looking car. ||
  82. 10:04 PM <Ilidirim|Frank> He ran for the gravel, hopeful that he had enough time to grab it, and imbue most, if not all of it by the time the bank was robbed and the get-away cars came back. Maybe he could throw it and get a shotgun like effect, maybe break the windows, screw up a driver before they started leaving? That was the plan, and the last thing he would try to do b
  83. 10:04 PM <Ilidirim|Frank> efore leaving.||
  84. 10:06 PM → Solaire joined (Solaire@net-18h.ope.188.218.IP)
  85. 10:07 PM <•Antioch|GM> He crouches in the parking lot, clenching his fist over each individual piece of gravel, adding imbued pieces to his pockets as they come. It's slow going, at least given the circumstances and the situation, but he keeps an eye out, waiting for the nondescript vans to return
  86. 10:09 PM <•Antioch|GM> Halfway through the fifties, he sees one of the vans rounding the corner. Four fistfuls of gravel, roughly. He's hoping that their size won't impact the strength of the concussive wave, paranoia suggesting that it very well might. ||
  87. 10:09 PM ⇐ Serk quit (Serk@net-gc5sjl.co.comcast.net) Client exited
  88. 10:15 PM <Ilidirim|Frank> It was something he had to try none-the-less. What was the worst that could happen? It wouldn't work and then he would hide, or run. The get away vehicles were there to be used for escape, not a chase, except his paranoia told him that he most certainly would be chased, but it didn't matter. If he could help, he would try. So he waited for the van
  89. 10:15 PM <Ilidirim|Frank> to come to a stop before throwing the spread of imbued gravel. It should work, besides, why would 4 people jump into a moving vehicle? Sounded stupid. ||
  90. 10:16 PM <•Antioch|GM> Waiting behind a corner, the van pulls up to the door, slowing to a stop, just as two men run out carrying full sacks - neither of them with Tinkertech-loaded pistol. One of the doors rolls open, the two men leaping into the van. ||
  91. 10:17 PM <Ilidirim|Frank> It was at this moment that he decided to launch the volley of imbued gravel at the van||
  92. 10:19 PM <•Antioch|GM> The spray of gravel peppers the van, each impacting offering a report much like firecrackers. Dents appear in the van, seemingly out of nowhere, and cracks spiderweb across the front windshield. The van rocks slightly, on its axles, but you hear its engine thrum, and it starts pulling away, picking up speed. ||
  93. 10:22 PM <Ilidirim|Frank> All he could do was hope that he had done something to slow them down, slinking back down behind the car and hiding.
  94. 10:22 PM <Ilidirim|Frank> ||
  95. 10:23 PM ⇐ Solaire quit ↔ Stoic popped in • Thaliaway → Thalia
  96. 10:37 PM <•Antioch|GM> Things don't quite add up, however - only two robbers left the building. The man with the Tinkertech and the one in the back, with all the safes and safety deposit boxes - they're still missing. ||
  97. 10:37 PM → Solaire joined (Solaire@net-18h.ope.188.218.IP)
  98. 10:42 PM <Ilidirim|Frank> The other two robbers still hadn't come out yet, but what was he supposed to do, walk right up to the windows to see if they were still there? No. That was stupid, there was no way he was going to do that, he was just going to keep waiting. All he could do was look around something that rang suspicious, if it wasn't too late that is.
  99. 10:43 PM ColdGold → ColdGold|GM
  100. 10:52 PM <Ilidirim|Frank> || (Whoops)
  101. 10:53 PM <•Antioch|GM> The sound of squealing tires alerts you to the movement of another vehicle - the second van, picking up the remaining two from the rear. They're too far out of your range, as it stands right now. ||
  102. 10:56 PM <Ilidirim|Frank> Frank was right to have thought there was nothing he could do. Perhaps he had even exaggerated the situation, and made himself look suspicious. As these thoughts passed through his head, he realized he had to get out of here, he felt like he would probably be blamed for everything.
  103. 10:56 PM <Ilidirim|Frank> ||
  104. 10:58 PM Teruzi|GM → Teruzi, Whisp|Wilder → Whispersilk
  105. 10:58 PM <•Antioch|GM> He ducks away into a secluded area, shucking the coat and goggles that serve as his impromptu cape outfit, feeling more vulnerable despite the action ending.
  106. 10:58 PM <•Antioch|GM> He tries to put the incident out of mind, hoping to return to the mundane task of acquiring basic staples needed to live, but his thoughts keep returning to his failure. ||
  107. 11:04 PM <Ilidirim|Frank> It had been more than just a couple of minutes since he ditched the outfit, but the feeling that he was still involved stayed. He wondered what happened to the people in the bank, if anything at all, and wondered why he thought he could do this. These days he felt like he couldn't do much of anything except expect things to happen that inevitably d
  108. 11:04 PM <Ilidirim|Frank> idn't, such as being good enough to stop a robbery. His paranoia spoke up once again as he got a little angry, once again at the man who called him out. "You have insurance you fuck...", almost absent-minded as he headed towards to market||
  109. 11:07 PM <•Antioch|GM> He's plagued, both by his failure to help protect a single resident of the city, and the man's scathing barb as he turned tail and fled.
  110. 11:07 PM <•Antioch|GM> Even after he returns home, completing the itinerary of chores, he's unable to shake the sense of failure and unease.
