keyboard only controls:

keys 1-0 are used to select switches (or maybe also including `, -, and = keys?). Tab or backspace toggles the switch that's selected.

n and m key cycles between couplers. spacebar couples or uncouples them.
OR: N toggles couple mode, in which the number keys select the couplers that many cars away from the locomotive. "-/_" or "=/+" toggles whether you look at the rear or the front. Tab or Backspace couples or uncouples them.

OR:
P key to change between coupler select and switch select. '[' and ']' shift between couplers (relative to loco) or between switches, selecting them. 'Enter' toggles them.

H key: whistle. Tap to give a short blast, or hold to get a longer blow.

touchscreen controls:

button on screen to toggle the Destination Finder (tapping on a placard will highlight the car), and to toggle on and off coupler and switch visibility.
button on screen to toggle handbrake mode. handbrakes will be all or nothing.
When tapping on a coupler or switch, the visible coupler icon or switch direction will linger if the coupler and switch visiblity is turned off.
With simple controls, the controls will be replaced with a single forward/backward slider on the side of the screen.
