  1. The Stag Lands have begun spreading forth like a plague, if you were to ask the other river despots. Work by the upstart King and his troupe of adventurers-turned-conquerors has led to a number of fairly bafflingly quick changes in the past ten years. A large road system (seemingly supported by the land itself if you believe the rumors), peace agreements with the local fey, the sudden and strange absorption of the massive red Kobold tribe in the area into the kingdom, and all of this mixed with a respect for the riverfolk's laws and freedoms that have created a very positive relationship.
  2.
  3. The Nentir Valley itself is home to thousands, developing rapidly within the past 8 years since it was freed from the autocratic river king that it chafed under. It's joining with the Stag Lands only occurring 3 years ago, the people of the land have taken to it with fervor.
  4.
  5. Central to the Valley, is the city of Silverpine, it's sprawl completely encompassing an ancient elven dam. While the dam itself has seen better days, the city hasn't, as almost any trade going through this stint of the Sellen River has to go through the dam, and that means money.
  6.
  7. From a population of around six thousand, to fifteen thousand in less than 8 years, it's sprawl isn't always the most planned. The city is broken up into a number of districts.
  8.
  9. • The Old Elven Markets
  10. ○ Built over the ruins of what appears to have been a huge plaza, the markets are the most lively part of town bar none. From the elven baths, to the innumerable shops, to the endless bars, it's a central destination hub.
  11. • Towertop
  12. ○ Atop a number of the spires of the dam, the Towertop district is around 80% gated off into residences for people rich enough to afford their own mercenaries, with the remaining percentage being devoted to a smattering of high end shops, and the two massive structures that make up the city silhouette. The Cathedral of Grand Mercies, a absolutely massive church, and the Gold Ringed Tower, home to a reclusive elven arcanist known only as Iqirax.
  13. • Dockside
  14. ○ A long plane of stone has turned into the largest residential district in Silverpine. Small number of businesses, within the housing area. Alongside this are the ship lifts and marinas and docks that line the dam.
  15. • Cogway
  16. ○ Underneath the dam, deep within the workings and stone hallways, are a number of mysterious mechanical contraptions that always seem to be moving. Dark, dank, and not very well patrolled by the guard, this place is home to a number of
  17. • Edgeward
  18. ○ Alongside the exterior walls of the dam, sit a number of communities that have banded together under the name of Edgeward. Dwarven, halfling, and even a small goblin community are all located here, alongside the sprawl of humans. Notably, this area has a locally elected Mayor.
  19.
  20. Religion in the Valley
  21.
  22. Amongst all bands of people, Sarenrae and Erastil are the largest gods here, with Abadar, Calistiria, Gorum, and Desna all having a smaller but very noticeable presence. Cayden Cailean has a large hold over the river folk, but that doesn't reach out much to the people in the city. A small cult to Asmodeus pops up here and there, with there being a few chapels and places of worship in the dark corners of the city and towns.
  23.
  24. The Six River Freedoms
  25.
  26. In the River Kingdoms, law is rare, but all follow a code.
  27.
  28. This code is six statements that are generally agreed upon by all. Breaking the code is worthy of scorn by the masses. While the Stag Lands has it's own laws, most of this code is respected, at least on paper.
  29.
  30. Say What You Will, I Live Free
  31. Freedom of speech. Criticism of the government is not uncommon at all.
  32.
  33. Oathbreakers Die
  34. Oaths are taken as seriously as possible. Oathbreakers are not to be trusted in any way.
  35.
  36. Walk Any Road, Float Any River
  37. No lords may block a road or river intentionally, nor may they profit from tolls on them.
  38.
  39. Courts Are For Kings
  40. Laws are flexible, and all within a kingdom are subject to the laws of the king, including foreign kings.
  41.
  42. Slavery Is An Abomination
  43. Ten years ago, a third of the population of the River Kingdoms were escaped slaves. To this day, it is still the place many enslaved flee to to avoid their masters, and the riverfolk support them where they can.
  44.
  45. Any member of an organization that deals in slavery should expect to be a target.
  46.
  47. You Have What You Hold
  48. A distinction between burglary, and robbery. The riverfolk see stealing someone's property without offering a chance to face their robber as outright offensive. This is the most abridged part of the code, as the Stag Lands legally takes a dim view on both, whereas many other River Kingdoms consider open banditry fine and legal.
