  1. In some countries in Europe, some children from the age of 11 or 13 go to schools to learn more practical skills that will help them get a job. Other children stay in schools which provide a more general academic education.
  2.
  3. What should schools do to prepare students for the world of work?
  4.
  5. Modern schools in Russia barely provide students with real-life skills. A lot of attention in high school is being spent on upcoming standardized tests and exams, and students are being trained to solve riddles and quizes instead of receiving useful knowlege.
  6. In my opinion, more attention should be paid to skills of choosing your way in career developement, selecting a college or university, writing CV. Essetnial adulthood skills should be covered as well - children should receive basics of personal finanses accounting, they should be able to figure out their taxes and possible benefits in the future. Knowledge of banking system, different cards, loans and savings accounts are very important as well. A lot of young adults are terrified with routine procedures of buyng and registering a motor vehicle, or a house, because nobody taught them how to go through the bureaucracy.
  7. Moreover, leaving school after 9th year for a professional college degree in modern Russia is a taboo for an above-average student. Apparently, only those who are not able to compete in the unified standard test race, should leave for another 3-years institution that will provide them with same knowledge, plus a real profession. Todays adults in Russia don't want their children to obtain profession of a barber, or a tailor, or a welder. In ther minds, everyone must graduate from high school and go on to become another manager, engineer, or at least obtain any low-effort degree just for the sake of higher education to please their parents ego.
  8. Kids are getting graduated from school after these, apparently very important, algebra and classic literature tests and have no idea how to land a job and open a bank account. Will calculus do you any good when you have no idea how to rent an appartment?
