  1. For a while now, I've been toying with the idea of a Pokémon game of my own making, since I have plenty of ideas for one. Recently, I've decided to go ahead and start on the concept phase of my hypothetical fan gen.
  2.
  3. SETTING
  4.
  5. Past and Future are set in the regions of Omazatoa and Naia, clearly based on the real-world regions of Mesoamerica and South America. The region is a culturally diverse mix of both ancient and modern. Depending on which game you choose, you start in a different region, and, as a result, different starters. If you play Past, you start in the Omazatoa region. If you play Future, you start in the Naia region. You end the main game when you journey to the central island and beat the League, as usual. The region you didn't start in is explorable during the postgame, like in GSC/HGSS.
  6.
  7. (imagine a map of the region here)
  8.
  9.
  10. PARTNER POKEMON
  11.
  12. However, that's not the only thing you game version dictates! At the start of the game, you are given a personality quiz. Sound familiar? While this won't turn you into a Pokémon (or will it?), it will instead assign your character a Nature (of the 25 in the game). This Nature will affect dialogue and be mostly cosmetic, but it will also have another affect: what Partner Pokémon you start with! Upon quiz completion, the game generates a list of male and female Pokémon depending on your result, which you can choose to be your Partner in the game, similar to in Let's Go. However, many of the mechanics will be improved or changed from their appearance in Let's Go.
  13.
  14. Just like in Let's Go, your Partner will have perfect IVs, will always follow you around, will be unable to evolve, will have special signature moves, will have a gender difference even if not present in previous games, have higher base stats than others of their species by 110 points total, cannot be shiny, cannot be traded/boxed/let go/etc, and so forth. Many of the mechanics will be iterated on or adjusted, though, and a few new mechanics will be added in. Your Partner will also have an actual role in the story to some degree. Unlike in Let's Go, you will get a Starter in addition to your Partner!
  15.
  16. Partners will be pulled from every region, though there will be fewer in newer regions simply due to smaller numbers of new additions to the Pokedex. Some Partner Pokémon are, of course, exclusive to each version, resulting in a total list of somewhere between 25 and 50 total to choose from between the two games.
  17.
  18.
  19. THE BOX LEGENDARIES
  20.
  21. The Box Art Trio of this game are subservient to Dialga, and represent the Past, Present, and Future. Faestino, the Legendary of the Future, lives in Naia. Rigenda, the Legendary of the Past, lives in Omazatoa. The third, Florrien, is available in a special location after obtaining both Legendaries.
  22.
  23.
  24. THE STORY
  25.
  26. Depending on which game you play, the story will play out differently. While you're fighting the same multiregional evil team in both, you do it in different ways. In each game, the evil team wants to separate People and Pokémon (each faction for their own reasons, themed after which version you're playing). To do this, they're constructing a modified Ultimate Weapon to physically separate the two into two separate worlds. To stop them, you travel to various points in either the past or future (depending on your version) and gather resources to put an end to their plans. The places visitied in Past are mostly nods to lore and previous gens. However in Future, you get to see a world where the evil team succeeded...
  27.
  28. (imagine a map here of... Super Mystery Dungeon??? :O)
  29.
  30. Yep, that's right. The world of Pokémon Mystery Dungeon is the world without humans, to which humans are summoned from their own, separate world during times of great need. It is with the help of natives to this era that you work together to stop the world from ever being split. Don't worry, though, this world won't vanish! The Dialga from this era says as much: your "current" era is a flux point in time, like when the original Ultimate Weapon was fired. The weapon has already fired, and your reality may be the one in which it never fired at all, should you succeed.
  31.
  32.
  33. THE GYMS, AND OTHER MISCELLANY
  34.
  35. In these games, the gyms aren't just battles with specific types combined with weird puzzles. Instead, each area of the game will teach you (in a non-invasive way) how the mechanics work, and how to best use them. Each gym is a battle that serves as a test on the area's knowledge. This is similar in concept to the first gym in Black and White, which teaches you the Fire/Water/Grass type core. Also, gyms that can be done out of order (which is most of them if all goes to plan) will choose their team based on your gym badge number and the average (or perhaps highest) level in your party.
  36.
  37. Your trainer card will change appearances upon doing things like winning the highest contest tier, beating the Champion, completing the National Dex, and so forth, as in many previous titles. However, you will also be able to purchase cosmetic changes. This will add poses, costumes, props, and so forth to your card, as well as add fonts, layouts, and other neat things!
  38.
  39. Worried about completing the national dex? Upon winning against the Champion, who will always be the same-gender-as-you player character from the opposite version (implying they completed their quest first), you gain access to the new Safari Zones! Each zone has a theme (such as starters, bugs, birds, etc), and combined they contain most of the Pokémon not normally found elsewhere in the games. All other Pokémon not native to the region will periodically migrate there during different seasons (which return as a feature).
  40.
  41. In addition, certain NPCs will happily trade their trade evolution Pokémon to you (such as Kadabra or Haunter), so you don't need to worry too much about trading with other people online. Legendary and Mythical Pokémon not native to the region will be catchable in a similar manner to ORAS, with rifts in spacetime allowing access to them in the postgame. UBs (and Necrozma + the Cosmog family) will be catchable via an Ultra Wormhole in the postgame.
  42.
  43. If you leave two Pokémon together in the Daycare, they will not only gain levels, but also gain EVs based on the EVs given upon defeat of the other Pokémon in the Daycare with them. Also, there is now a size restriction on breeding for all Pokémon aside from Ditto. You can no longer have HSOWA happen.
  44.
  45. Regional variants will, of course, be a thing. Many mechanics, abilities, moves, and Pokémon in general will be altered slightly. This is especially true for incredibly useless Pokémon (Castform, Unown, Regigigas) or moves that are incredibly pointless (like the signature move of Klefki).
  46.
  47.
  48. THAT'S ALL FOR NOW
  49.
  50. I have a lot of other ideas and have tons of Pokémon concepts and names, but I have no art yet, and the dex and region itself are still in early development. Assuming I post any time soon (which is unlikely), stay tuned for more!
