- 1. Programs needed
- -tf2
- -virtualdub
- -video editing software, just pirate sony vegas or some shit, vegas is the best program that is also easy to use,
- the other software out there are complicated as hell.
- 2. Assuming you know how to record demos and navigate them, here's what you will need in terms of configs and commands
- -some sorta movie config, any high quality tf2 config should do. the lawena program provides really good configs
- and is really really awesome and you should check it out if you're feeling slightly more advanced.
- it provides an interface to change skyboxes and do things like leaving out health and ammo bars,
- removing announcer voice, domination sounds and providing awesome particle effects.
- -startmovie [movie name]
- -endmovie
- I suggest binding the two above commands to keys
- -sv_cheats 1
- -host_framerate 60
- youtube takes 60 fps videos so record at that. if you plan on doing slomos record at higher framerates.
- -r_drawviewmodel 1
- and then,
- -alias r_drawviewmodel ""
- this is so that viewmodels are turned on, and then kept on no matter what until the game is restarted
- -hud_saytext_time 0
- -cl_drawhud 0
- the two above are if you want and aren't using lawena
- 3. launch options for tf2
- -windowed -noborder -w 1280 -h 720-novid -console -dxlevel 98
- go ahead and change the resolution if you want
- 4. to record, play your demo a little before where you want to record, close the demoui with "shift+f2", hit your startmovie bind, then hit your endmovie bind when you're done. the game will sound funky, and be super laggy, this is normal.
- 5. now in your tf folder, there's just a bajillion .tga extension files, these are just super high quality frames the game has spat out, at whatever framerate you specified, there is also a provided .wav file.
- 6. open virtualdub, and load the first frame into it (file->open video file->first tga file) it's simply the tga file with the lowest number.
- 7. in virtualdub (audio->audio from other file->your .wav file)
- 8. in virtualdub (video->framerate->change so video and audio durations match)
- 9. in virtualdub (file->save as .avi)
- 10. after you save the .avi, it'll probably take a while, open up this .avi video file in your video editor of choice. you will most likely have made a ton of different clips using the above process. each one has to be made separately. you should not record in game with the startmovie command with the same name until you have deleted all the .tga files and .wav files from the previous recording.
- 11. for sony vegas pro 13, after you do your editing, however simple or complicated it gets to be (file->render as)
- 12. in this window that opens, go to output format, and select 'Internet HD 1080p' or 'Internet HD 720p', then click customize template.
- change framerate to 60
- click project tab at the bottom, and change Video rendering quality to best
- at the top, i suggest you save this template to make the future easier
- click ok, name your output file at the top, then click render
- this will take a while most likely.
- 13. you should now have a 1080p or 720p 60 fps .mp4 type video ready for youtube.
- 14. get downfragged on teamfortress.tv
