Prof. Yumi: Koji, are you serious...!?

(Koji and Amuro are on comms.)

甲児
「手はあると言ったでしょう…?
アムロ大尉の、ですけどね…」
Koji: I said we had another set of hands, right...? Well, those hands are Lieutenant Amuro’s...

弓教授
「確かに大尉は熟練のパイロットだが、
いきなりマジンガーで戦うのは…!」
Prof. Yumi: It’s true that the Lieutenant is a skilled pilot, but to expect him to suddenly fight using Mazinger...!

甲児
「操縦と戦闘方法は…俺が教えます。
マジンガーとガンダム…そして
研究所を守るには、それしか…」
Koji: I’ll tell him...how to control it and how to fight. It’s the only way to save Mazinger, the Gundam...and the Photon Power Lab...

アムロ
「…いいだろう、甲児。
俺がマジンガーZで戦おう」
Amuro: ...Alright, Koji. I’ll fight with Mazinger Z.

弓教授
「しかし、大尉!」
Prof. Yumi: But, Lieutenant!

アムロ
「彼は俺を守るために傷を負いました。
その恩に報いるためにも、提案に乗ります」
Amuro: He was hurt protecting me. So I’ll go along with his proposal to pay him back.

アムロ
「やるべき時に、それをやる…
今まで彼がそうしてきたように」
Amuro: I’ll do what I can when I need to... Just like he’s been doing all this time.

甲児
「大尉なら大丈夫ですよ…!」
Koji: I know you’ll do fine, Lieutenant...!

弓教授
「わかった、アムロ大尉に任せよう。
しかし、甲児君はマジンガーZから降りるんだ。
さやかのアフロダイAをそちらへ向かわせる」
Prof. Yumi: Very well, I’ll trust in Lieutenant Amuro. But you are getting off Mazinger Z, Koji. I’ll send Sayaka over to you in Aphrodite A.

甲児
「だったら、さやかさんはガンダムの回収を…。
俺はここに残ります…」
Koji: Just have Sayaka recover the Gundam... I’m staying here...

弓教授
「いかん。
アムロ大尉には通信で操縦方法を教えればいい」
Prof. Yumi: No. You can instruct Lieutenant Amuro how to pilot through a communication line just fine.

甲児
「それだと…伝えられないことがあるんです…。
機体のクセや操縦のコツとか…」
Koji: There are...some things I can’t show like that... Like the machine’s quirks and tricks on how to pilot it...

アムロ
「弓教授、彼は必ず俺が守ってみせます」
Amuro: I’ll make sure to keep him safe, Professor Yumi.

弓教授
「………」
Prof. Yumi: ...

弓教授
「よかろう、君たちを信じよう。
…さやか、聞いていたね?」
Prof. Yumi: Very well, I’ll believe in you both. ...I trust you heard all that, Sayaka?

さやか
「はい、お父様!」
Sayaka: Yes, father!

弓教授
「アフロダイAでアムロ大尉をパイルダーに
乗せた後、vガンダムを回収するんだ」
Prof. Yumi: After you let Lieutenant Amuro board the Pilder, Aphrodite A will recover the Nu Gundam.

『黒と白の交錯』
Episode 2
Black Crosses With White


(Scene begins on the map screen of the Photon Power Lab. Koji and Amuro are in their machines one space apart from each other. Sayaka appears and flies between them both.)

さやか
「ふたりとも、遅くなってごめんなさい!」
Sayaka: Sorry for the delay, you two!

甲児
「いや、間に合ってくれたさ…。
うっ、うう…!」
Koji: No, you’re just in time... U-Ugh...!

さやか
「甲児君!?」
Sayaka: Koji!?

アムロ
「さやか君、俺は応急治療キットを持っている。
マジンガーZのコックピットまで上げてくれ」
Amuro: I’ve got a first aid kit, Sayaka. Bring me over to Mazinger Z’s cockpit.

さやか
「わかりました!
アフロダイAの掌に乗ってください!」
Sayaka: Understood! Please climb onto Aphrodite A’s hand!

アムロ
「ああ、頼む」
Amuro: Alright, thanks.

(Sayaka takes Amuro and lets him get inside Mazinger Z.)

甲児
「アムロ大尉…」
Koji: Lieutenant Amuro...

アムロ
「すまない、甲児。
あの時、君がかばってくれなかったら…」
Amuro: Sorry, Koji. If you hadn’t protected me back then...

甲児
「本当に生き残れるかどうかは…この後次第ですよ…。
さやかさん、機械獣は…?」
Koji: Whether we survive this or not...depends on what happens next... Sayaka, what are the Mechanical Beasts doing...?

さやか
「もうすぐ研究所の敷地内に侵入するわ!
いざとなったら、私もアフロダイAで…」
Sayaka: They’ll reach the lab soon! If I have to, I’ll use Aphrodite A and—

甲児
「さやかさん、自分の仕事を忘れるなよ…。
vガンダムを研究所へ…運んでくれ…」
Koji: Don’t forget about your own duty, Sayaka... Get Nu Gundam...back to the lab...

さやか
「わ、わかったわ!
アムロ大尉、甲児君を…マジンガーZを
よろしくお願いします!」
Sayaka: R-Right! Lieutenant Amuro... Please look after Koji and Mazinger Z!

アムロ
「ああ。この場は必ず切り抜けてみせる…!」
Amuro: I will. We’re gonna make it through this...!

(Sayaka leaves the map with Nu Gundam.)

甲児
「アムロ大尉、シートに座ってください…。
俺は後ろに…くっ、痛え…」
Koji: Take the seat, Lieutenant Amuro... I’ll get behind it... Ngh, that smarts...

アムロ
「鎮痛剤を打つ。今はこれで我慢してくれ」
Amuro: Take these painkillers. You’ll have to bear with it for now.

甲児
「は、はい…!
操縦桿と出力調整レバーは…そこに…」
Koji: R-Right...! The control stick and the energy output lever...are over there...

アムロ
(これで機体を操縦しているのか…!
モビルスーツとは勝手が違う)
Amuro: (This is what they use to pilot this machine...!? It’s pretty different from a Mobile Suit...)

アムロ
(だが、同じ人型ならば、やりようはある…!)
Amuro: (But it’s still humanoid like one, so I’ll give it a shot...!)

(Mechanical Beasts appear.)

弓教授
「[機械獣]が侵入したぞ!
アムロ大尉、マジンガーZを動かせるかね!?」
Prof. Yumi: The [Mechanical Beasts] have arrived! Lieutenant Amuro, can you operate Mazinger Z!?

アムロ
「ええ、何とか。
初めてガンダムに乗った時よりはマシです」
Amuro: Yes, I think so. It’s not as bad as the first time I piloted the Gundam.

アムロ
「操縦マニュアルではなく、機体を熟知した彼が
逐一教えてくれますから」
Amuro: I may not have a piloting manual, but I have a man who knows the machine inside and out teaching me along the way.

弓教授
「甲児君の容体は?」
Prof. Yumi: What is Koji’s condition?

甲児
「軍で使ってる鎮痛剤は効くぜ…。
だいぶ楽になりました」
Koji: Military painkillers really do their job... I’m feeling a lot better.

アムロ
(とはいえ、体力の消耗は明白だ。
あまり時間は掛けられない)
Amuro: (Nevertheless, I can tell his stamina is draining. I have to finish this quick.)

甲児
「じゃあ、頼みます、大尉!」
Koji: Alright, it’s up to you, Lieutenant!

アムロ
「ああ、いくぞ!」
Amuro: Right, let’s do this!

(Battle 1 begins.)

(This exchange triggers when Amuro battles an enemy.)

甲児
「コックピットの視界は、
モビルスーツより狭いはず…!」
Koji: The cockpit’s field of vision is probably smaller than a Mobile Suit’s...!

甲児
「頭部を動かして、
敵を見失わないようにして下さい!」
Koji: Move the head and try not to lose sight of the enemy!

アムロ
「機体の目でも相手を見ろということだな?」
Amuro: You mean I have to see my opponent through the machine’s eyes?

甲児
「そう、その通り!」
Koji: Yeah, exactly!

(Battle 1 ends when all enemies are defeated.)

甲児
「…さすがはアムロ大尉。
俺が思ってた以上にマジンガーを
うまく扱ってらあ」
Koji: ...I should have expected as much, Lieutenant Amuro. You’re handling Mazinger better than I thought you would.

アムロ
「初めて乗る機体なら、
キャノピー越しの方が直感的に動かしやすい」
Amuro: The canopy makes it pretty easy to move how you want, even on your first time piloting.

甲児
「そうそう、俺はカメラ越しの操縦だと
ちょっとやりにくくて…マジンガーZで
慣れちまったせいなんだろうけど」
Koji: Yeah, I just never liked piloting through a camera... Maybe that’s just because I’m so used to Mazinger Z though.

弓教授
「アムロ大尉、すぐに敵の増援が来る!
警戒してくれたまえ!」
Prof. Yumi: Lieutenant Amuro, reinforcements will arrive soon! Remain vigilant!

アムロ
「了解…!」
Amuro: Roger...!

甲児
「敵が早いか、援軍が早いか…
時間稼ぎするしかないみてえだな」
Koji: Either the enemy are faster or our reinforcements are... Whichever it is, all we can do is stall for time.

アムロ
「ああ。ここは踏みとどまるぞ、ふたりで…!」
Amuro: Yeah. No matter what, we’ll hold them off! The both of us...!


(Scene ends.)

(Next scene picks up where it left off.)


アムロ
「新顔はいないようだな。
ならば、使いやすいロケットパンチでいける」
Amuro: The next wave still isn’t here yet. Then let’s try giving the Rocket Punch a shot.

甲児
「光子力ビームとかじゃなくて、
ロケットパンチが?」
Koji: You wanna use the Rocket Punch? Not the Photon Power Beam or something?

アムロ
「ああ、
昔のガンダムの装備に少し似ているのさ」
Amuro: Yeah, it’s kind of like some of the equipment the old Gundam used.

甲児
「え? 初代に腕を飛ばす武器なんてあったっけ?」
Koji: Huh? Did the first Gundam have a weapon that let your arm go flying?

アムロ
「ガンダム・ハンマーやハイパー・ハンマーだ。
鉄の塊を直接相手にぶつけるという点は、
ロケットパンチと似ている」
Amuro: I mean the Gundam Hammer and the Hyper Hammer. They’re similar to the Rocket Punch in that you’re hitting the opponent directly with a lump of iron.

甲児
「でも、扱いはハンマーの方が難しいと思うけど…」
Koji: I think the Hammers are harder to use, actually...

アムロ
「それに、コントロール方法は違うが、
vガンダムにも遠隔操作武器がある。
今回の経験は無駄にならない…!」
Amuro: And besides, even if the control methods are different, the Nu Gundam has remote controlled weapons as well. So getting experience now won’t go to waste...!

(Mechanical Beasts appear. Battle 2 begins.)

(This line triggers when Amuro battles an enemy.)

アムロ
「もはやその機体で
俺たちを止めることはできない…!」
Amuro: You won’t stop up with a machine like that anymore...!

(This line triggers when Amuro battles a Garada K7.)

アムロ
「今度は確実に仕留めなければ…!」
Amuro: This time, we’ll make sure to take it down...!

(Battle 2 ends when all enemies are defeated.)

アムロ
「よし、この調子ならば…」
Amuro: Yeah, I’m getting the hang of this...

弓教授
「アムロ大尉、ロンド・ベル本隊は
ここへ向かう途中、機械獣と遭遇したそうだ。
よって、到着が遅れる」
Prof. Yumi: Lieutenant Amuro, it seems Londo Bell has encountered Mechanical Beasts on their way here. Their arrival will be delayed.

アムロ
「敵はラー・カイラムにも手を回していたか…!」
Amuro: So the enemy had their sights set on the Ra Cailum as well...!

弓教授
「さらに、飛行要塞グールが
まもなく研究所上空に達する」
Prof. Yumi: Also, the Flying Fortress Ghoul will soon be over the laboratory.

甲児
「でも、そいつをやっつければ、
敵の波状攻撃は終わりってことですよね」
Koji: But, if we take it down, that means the enemy waves will stop coming.

弓教授
「おそらくはな」
Prof. Yumi: Most likely.

アムロ
「…次が正念場か」
Amuro: ...Then it’s do or die next.

弓教授
「今からアフロダイAを出撃させる。
重ね重ね申し訳ないが、君たちで
敵を撃退してもらうしかない」
Prof. Yumi: I’m sending out Aphrodite A now. I’m sorry to say this again, but you must repel the enemy.

アムロ
「元より、そのつもりです」
Amuro: That’s what we were planning from the start.

甲児
「グールを叩き落とせば、敵は総崩れだ。
マジンガーZ、最後までアムロ大尉に
力を貸してくれ…!」
Koji: Take down the Ghoul and the enemies are done for. See Lieutenant Amuro through this, Mazinger Z...!
