- Fire Emblem Three Houses Normal mode draft race
- Game:
- 1. This is a ruleset for a draft race of Fire Emblem Three Houses for the Nintendo Switch.
- 2. Players must prepare or download a special draft race file. This file is required for the new game+ features to function
- 2a. All characters’ A supports with Byleth must be unlocked so that they are available for purchase with renown.
- 2b. Saint Statues must have no upgrades.
- 2c. All battalions must be sold so that the battalion guild is empty at the start of the run.
- 2d. All players must have the same amount of renown on their file. In the case that one player has more renown than the others, it is acceptable to still play the game, but the player with more renown must never spend more renown than the poorest other player has (example, if one player has 35k renown and another has 45k, the player who started with 45k must never fall below 10k renown). All players should agree ahead of time on a minimum amount of renown.
- 2ci. The default amount of renown is 35,010.
- 3. Players play on normal mode, new game+, classic mode, and without online features.
- 4. Players must decide ahead of the draft exactly which route will be played and all players must play the same route. Only a run which completes the correct route can be submitted for the final time.
- 5. Players must record their time using an external timer. The timer starts when the player chooses “yes” on the screen that confirms their choice of birth date. The timer can end any time after the final boss of the route has zero displayed HP on the save game file. The player with the lowest submitted final time wins the competition.
- 5a. The timer will not pause unless the player is taking a break.
- 5b. Once the timer has started, it will never revert to a previous time under any circumstances.
- 5c. Any accrued penalties (as described in “playing the game”) are added to the final time submission only, and are not added to the timer as it is running during the race.
- 5d. Recommended timers include LiveSplit or AKDylie’s race coordinator.
- 5e. Patti rule: If a player wishes to start an entirely new game, they may, but the timer will continue to run during the entire process. You can use the new save game file in place of the old one should you desire.
- 6. All DLC is allowed and it is advised that all players have purchased the DLC.
- 7. All online features are banned.
- Drafting:
- 1. This draft is for 4 players. On the day of the draft, they will determine their picking order randomly.
- 2. Players pick characters from the roster in “snake order” 1-2-3-4-4-3-2-1 until all characters in the pool are drafted. The number of draftable characters will vary by choice of route.
- 3. There are two copies of Lysithea to draft. No player is allowed to draft Lysithea twice.
- 4. Byleth, Dimitri, Edelgard, and Claude are free to use in the prologue, on chapter 1, and (if not playing Crimson Flower) chapter 13.
- 5. Seteth is free to use for chapter 13 in Silver Snow draft races only.
- 6. All in-house units are free to use in chapter 1 and free to deploy (but not use) in chapter 2.
- Playing the game:
- 1. A player who suffers a penalty or disqualification may nullify the penalty or disqualification by resetting the game and reloading to a point before the penalized action occurred or by using divine pulse to travel to a point before the penalized action occurred.
- 2. Recruitment of an undrafted unit imposes a 20-minute penalty on the player who recruited them. Characters who join automatically as part of the story (ex: Flayn) do not impose this penalty.
- 3. Deploying/adjutanting an undrafted unit, whether or not they are recruited, imposes a 15-minute penalty on the player who deployed them.
- 4. If an undrafted unit is deployed, they may not perform any actions except for moving, using items, waiting, trading items, or interacting with convoy. They are also not allowed to counterattack. Performing an illegal action with a deployed unit imposes a 5-minute penalty, up to once per map per unit. If the unit who performed the illegal action was Byleth, Dimitri, Edelgard, or Claude, the run is instead disqualified.
- 5. Skipping a combat with the B or + button, or skipping an enemy or ally phase with the start button, or skipping phases and actions by enabling options in the options menu imposes a 1-minute penalty on the prologue and chapter 1 and a 5-minute penalty on all other chapters, applied up to once per turn.
- 6. Use of autobattle disqualifies the run.
- 7. Use of the retribution gambit or the dance of the goddess gambit disqualifies the run.
- 8. Use of any of the DLC stat boosters under the bed or the chalice of beginnings disqualifies the run.
- 9. Renown may be spent to increase professor level, to unlock support ranks with drafted units only, to unlock support rank with Edelgard (Crimson Flower only), and to purchase items from the pagan altar. All other renown expenditures will disqualify the run.
- 10. If a character gains skill rank in a skill in which they do not have a boon or a budding talent, the run is disqualified.
- 10a. Exception: characters may gain skill rank in authority by engaging in combat and performing gambits without disqualification.
- 10b. Exception: if the automatic tutor instructs a skill in which a character does not have a boon or budding talent, the player is not disqualified.
- 11. Receiving healing from the prayer ring or Goddess ring disqualifies the run.
- 12. Actions taken by undrafted characters do not impose penalties if the undrafted character is a green, red, or yellow unit.
- Administration:
- 1. Breaks: Players may elect to take a break from the game at any time. If they do so, their timer does not run, and they are not allowed to make inputs in their game. If a break is taken on a preps menu, the game is allowed to run, but if the break is taken at any other time, the player must use the home button to return to the switch home screen. It is recommended, though not required, that the players agree upon a maximum break time. The recommended maximum break time is 15 minutes. If a player is out of break time, their timer will continue to run regardless of whether or not they are running the game.
- 2. DNF: Players should communicate ahead of time how long they want to stream and how late they can expect the event to go. You enforce this with a DNF (did not finish) time. If a player is still playing the game when their timer has reached the agreed DNF time, they are encouraged to honorably submit DNF as their time instead of continuing to play. Players should communicate what an appropriate time would be.
- 3. Restarting the race: If all players agree to restart the race, they can all simultaneously delete their current game files and return to the main menu. Everyone’s timers reset to zero, and the race will restart with each player using the same team as they had for the previous attempts. Any progress players made on the old files cannot count towards the final time submission of the new race. This is the only circumstance in which the timer can revert to a previous time.
- 4. Stream setup: Anyone intending to stream the game (including and up to any number of other player perspectives) should ensure ahead of time that their capture devices, timer, switch, and streaming software can run without issue.
