  1. >Day 80 in Equestria.
  2. >This morning you wake up in your bed in the library, and you kind of just stare at the ceiling.
  3. >You've been here for close to three months now.
  4. >The knowledge has been there. You've pretty much been counting the days this entire time. However, something just clicked in your brain that made you realize.
  5. >You remember telling Twilight that it's okay if you stay here, and you still think that, but now you're thinking about home.
  6. >You wonder how your friends and parents feel.
  7. >Are you dead?
  8. >In a coma?
  9. >Disappeared?
  10. >So many questions that you'll probably never have the answer to.
  11. >In fact, you're starting to feel kind of bad. You haven't quite missed your home as much as you have before now.
  12. >You sit up in bed and let out a sigh.
  13. >You can hear Spike snoring upstairs. God only knows how Twilight gets peaceful sleep with that machine going.
  14. >The cold wooden floor feels horrid on your bare feet. You peek up at one of the windows near the front of the library. It's still dark out, but your awake so you might as well get up.
  15. >After brushing your teeth you return to the main room and see a half awake Twilight on the stairs.
  16. "Mornin'."
  17. >"Erfmghleh."
  18. >You know that feel.
  19. >She stumbles down the steps and right to you. What you don't expect is for her to jump up to you and plant a kiss on your cheek.
  20. >She lands back on her forehooves, and there is a long moment of silence.
  21. >As if something clicks into place, her sleepy eyes go wide and she lets out a small gasp. She stumbles back a bit and her face goes red, "I'm sorry Anon, I... oh no what have I done?"
  22. >You clear your throat and your own face goes a bit red.
  23. "Twi, it's uh... it's okay. You were half asleep, no big deal."
  24. >Twilight takes a deep breath through her nose, then gives a curt nod, "Right, just a simple mistake, no need to panic."
  25. >WHAM!
  26. >You look over in shock to see Dash with a panicked look on her face, having just busted through the library door, "Hi! Good morning!"
  27. "Um..."
  28. >You look to Twilight, who looks like she's about to die of a heart attack. Deciding that you're not getting anything out of her, you turn back to Dash.
  29. "Good... morning?"
  30. >"Hey Big Guy. I know it's kind of early but that's not too bad. It's good to run this early every once in a while. Wakes the muscles up!"
  31. "Sure, I guess. Why are you in such a hurry?"
  32. >Dash grins sheepishly and waves a hoof to the side, "Oh I'm not in a hurry, we just need to get out there and hit the dirt. No use sitting around here when we could be out exercising. You're finally starting to look more fit so why should we stop now?!"
  33. >It doesn't take a genius to see that Dash is antsy about something, but you decide to drop it before she goes anymore crazy. You'll just ask her about it later.
  34. ------
  35. >Or at least that was the plan.
  36. >Rainbow Dash has been following you around all day, blabbing on and on about stuff you weren't paying attention to. One minute she'd be talking about how muscles grow, and the next she'd be talking about nutrition that's fit for someone who's exercising.
  37. >None of it really means anything to you, since you're not a pony.
  38. >After the run she followed you back to the library, and the entire time you were working with Twilight she just wouldn't stop talking.
  39. >Now, putting a book into its place on the shelf, you barely hear what Dash is saying; you're just sort of nodding along to make her think you're listening.
  40. >Then, it finally happens.
  41. >"Rainbow!"
  42. >Dash falls silent, and you turn around to see a frustrated Twilight glaring at her friend, frozen in midair.
  43. >Dash looks down and frowns, "Yeah?"
  44. >"Is something wrong?"
  45. >"Wrong? Uh... no, everything's totally cool! Promise."
  46. >Twilight sighs and brings a hoof to her head, "I've never seen you act like this before, Rainbow. If you're not willing to tell me what's wrong can you at least be quiet for just a few minutes?"
  47. >Dash huffs, "Whatever, I'm not the one stealing kisses."
  48. >Twilight raises an eyebrow, "So you did see that." She shakes her head and smiles, "Listen Rainbow, I'm sorry. Really, I was half asleep and barely aware of what I was doing. I know we agreed to wait until the right time. Even then it's not my right to interfere."
  49. >Dash sticks her tongue out at Twilight.
  50. >It's hard not to find the way she's acting adorable, if not slightly annoying.
  51. "I can vouch for Twi on that. She was a zombie this morning."
  52. >"Ugh, fine! I gotta head out anyways, but I better not catch you two making out next time I drop by!"
  53. >Twilight giggles and shakes her head, "I Pinkie promise."
  54. >With that, Dash finally vacates the library.
  55. >You and Twilight just stand there for a few seconds.
  56. "Shh... wait, you hear that?"
  57. >"No, what is it?"
  58. >You grin.
  59. "Nothing. Peace and quiet."
  60. >Twilight laughs and shakes her head, "This is going to be harder than I thought in my hypothesis."
  61. "So we're a science experiment now?"
  62. >"N... no. I don't mean it like that. I should have figured Rainbow would be the jealous type. She'll probably end up saying no."
  63. "What makes you think that?"
  64. >"Wait here. We shouldn't talk about this while we're working."
  65. >With that, Twilight vacates to the kitchen. You hear some cupboards being opened and closed, and a few minutes later Twilight returns with a few steaming cups of what smells like tea.
  66. >She pulls the small table over with her magic and sits on her haunches, setting the cups on top of the table.
  67. >You join her, sitting cross legged.
  68. >"Well, I suppose it's time we talked about this anyways." She takes a sip from her tea before continuing, "At first I found you fascinating. You were just a new species that I'd never seen before. Rainbow started the routine with you, and to be honest you look a lot better than when you got here."
  69. >You take a drink from your own cup.
  70. "It's thanks to both of you. My only problem was that I was too lazy to exercise. You guys kind of forced me into it. You made the schedule and kept track, and Dash was with me every morning."
  71. >"Can I ask a question, Anon?"
  72. "Sure."
  73. >"Why do you think you find Rainbow attractive?"
  74. "Wow, that's uh... that's the first time anyone's asked me that. I've thought about why before but..."
  75. >"She's a different species."
  76. "Right, and so are you."
  77. >Twilight's face goes slightly flush at the implication of your attraction to her. She takes a deep breath before speaking again, "Well, we're both sentient species. I would also be lying if I said you weren't becoming more physically appealing by losing weight."
  78. "Being fat is hardly a desirable trait. Some people make it work, I'm not one of them."
  79. >"How long has it been since you've... been with a female of your species?"
  80. >Wow, that's definitely an awkward question.
  81. "I had a girlfriend back in high school. That was about five years ago. Ha, I kinda let myself go after I graduated."
  82. >"There are a number of factors at play here."
  83. "Do you have to be so clinical about it?"
  84. >"Yes. I want to make sure we're all on the same page before anything else happens. I'll make sure to have this talk with Rainbow as well."
  85. "Alright, point taken. What are these factors?"
  86. >"Well, for one, you're fascinating, as I said before. A new species, foreign. Some would even say exotic."
  87. "If that's not flattering, then I don't know what is."
  88. >You take a chug from your cup as Twilight speaks. "The second factor, in my case, is that you're a good conversationalist. You've also been of great help in the library."
  89. "Anything else?"
  90. >The small flush from before goes a shade deeper, "The petting."
  91. "Ah. Well now I know why you like me. What about Dash?"
  92. >"I can't speak for her entirely. That's part of the reason I have to talk with her. If I have to say anything though, it's that you're a good friend, and you have qualities that match hers."
  93. "Like what?"
  94. >"Loyalty, bravery, stubbornness. That also adds an extra bullet point to my own attraction. I was... interested in Rainbow before your arrival. I figured that the three of us have a lot in common, so..."
  95. "You can't have expected Dash to be super open about this."
  96. >"No. No, of course not. When you two came to see me at the library it caught me by surprise. You ruined two months worth of scheduling in that one moment."
  97. "Two months? Jesus, Twi, I didn't even..."
  98. >"It's fine. I just had to adjust certain points, and now here we are. I may have to scrap the whole thing depending on what Rainbow says, though."
  99. "You'd really just toss it aside like that?"
  100. >Twilight gives you a gentle smile, "Of course I would. I wouldn't like it, but you and Rainbow are important friends to me, and I wouldn't want anything to get in the way of that."
  101. "If it comes down to choosing, you're not exactly making the choice easier on me."
  102. >"Oh?"
  103. "Women where I'm from... don't usually think like that. I had a friend who was a real lady killer, and one time one of the girls he was playing found out about a different girl. Turned out they were friends going to the same college. If the guys hadn't been there to pull them off each other I think they would have ripped each other's scalps off. Needless to say they weren't friends anymore after that."
  104. >"That sounds horrible."
  105. "Yep, that about sums us up. Amazing, horrible, and everything in between."
  106. >"You sound like you're homesick."
  107. "A bit. I was thinking about it when I woke up this morning, too. I decided to stay here, though, so I'm sticking to that. I wouldn't want you to overexert yourself just to end up saying goodbye."
  108. >"Yeah, I can understand that. When I first met my friends here I thought I would have to move back to Canterlot afterwards, and I really didn't want to."
  109. "Seems like you've done pretty well for yourself here."
  110. >She smiles, "I like to think that I have. Twilight Sparkle, local librarian and professional magic user."
  111. "Quite the resume. Best I've got is being a pencil pusher."
  112. >"Hahaha, being a pencil pusher isn't so bad. You get paid for pushing pencils."
  113. "I'll push you if you keep making fun of me."
  114. >Twilight brings her cup to her lips, and with one last long swig, finishes the rest of her tea. "I've asked you about everything from your government to your economy, but I don't think I've ever really asked you about your own life?"
  115. "Ha, believe me when I say that nothing I have ever done matches up to the crazy shit humanity gets up to as a collective."
  116. >"That doesn't make it any less interesting. I'm gathering data for future use."
  117. >You scoff.
  118. "Data, sure."
  119. >Leaning forward, you take your tea cup and finish it as well.
  120. "Nothing much to say. Parents were okay, and you already know how I got fat."
  121. >"No dreams or aspirations?"
  122. "I used to fancy the thought of becoming a cop when I was little."
  123. >"Cop?"
  124. "Think guards."
  125. >"Ah."
  126. "As it is I'm pretty satisfied where I am. I've already lost most of my weight. Give it another month and I'll be back to normal. If I'm lucky the princess will get back to me on the whole meat thing. I'm tired of eating beans."
  127. >She smiles and nods, "That's good to hear. I'd hate to be a bad host. I'll get these cups cleaned up and we'll get back to work. No reason to waste the rest of the afternoon."
  128. "Sounds good to me."
