  13. Robert De Niro has been announced as jury president for this year's Cannes film festival. The Oscar-winning actor will head a panel of industry professionals appointed to decide which film takes the coveted Palme d'Or award, among many others.
  14. "The Cannes film festival is a rare opportunity for me," De Niro said. "It is one of the oldest and one of the best [film festivals] in the world."
  15. De Niro, now 67, has starred in two Palme d'Or winners, Taxi Driver and The Mission. He also won Oscars for his roles in The Godfather: Part II and Raging Bull, and helped found the Tribeca film festival, which is now in its 10th year.

"As co-founder of the Tribeca film festival and [Qatar's] Doha Tribeca film festival I have an increased appreciation for the jury who serve, undertaking an important role in choosing films that are represented in the world of film at its highest level," De Niro said. "These types of festivals help connect the international film community and have a lasting cultural impact."
