  1. Job summary: Configure + automate provisioning of highly available gunicorn+nginx app servers + replicating filesystem + db middleware (probably pgpool-II).
  2.
  3. You must have experience in (i.e. have already done at least once):
  4.
  5. * Setting up a HA application with a distributed replicating filesystem
  6. * Provisioning systems using Ansible
  7. * Setting up a HA database cluster using Pgpool-II and PostgreSQL
  8.
  9. This particular job concerns:
  10.
  11. * Adjusting the configuration of nginx to serve the app traffic in coherence with the other changes in this list (including managing the http status codes in accordance with what the load balancer needs)
  12. * Set up a distributed replicating filesystem and associated app server config, including failover handling and notification
  13. * Configure middlewear to handle failover (and notification) on the database cluster
  14. * Altering an existing suite of playbooks to automate the above configuration and provisioning
  15. * Documentation (markdown files) for the above to narrate the config customisation (outside default ansible roles)
  16.
  17. If you're interested, you should include links to your github/blog that show your systems engineering competency (i.e. playbooks, db configuration procedures). Access will be granted to the repository so you can estimate how much work is required. The present playbooks automate bootstrapping all the machines, but the nginx config needs adjusting, the replicating filesystem is not in place (just an rsync cron job), and there is no failover middleware configured for the database cluster.
  18.
  19. You'll need to be at a level of experience and expertise that you can get this done in about a week - not because it's urgently needed for next week, just that I need someone with a good understanding of best practice in HA configuration for this particular tech stack.
