  1. •Antioch|GM> ...
  2. 2:45 PM <•Antioch|GM> Freddie wakes up in an unfamiliar room. It's not a hospital room -- more a bedroom, though smaller than his old one in Cameron's house. He's out of costume, changed into an oversized T-shirt and gym shorts, and despite the December weather, the heater's on full blast to the point where the attire isn't damnably lacking.
  3. 2:45 PM <•Antioch|GM> The last thing he remembers is getting impaled, blacking out. What's more surprising than his surroundings is the fact that there's no gaping hole in his stomach. ||
  4. 2:48 PM ColdGold → CG|Artful
  5. 2:48 PM <CG|Artful> ...
  6. 2:50 PM <CG|Artful> Freddie eyes open wide, and he screams the scream he hadn't been able to get out. The memory of being impaled is fresh in his mind.
  7. 2:51 PM <CG|Artful> The scream soon turns to deep breaths, as he feels at his stomach to see. How is it smooth? Blake?
  8. 2:51 PM <CG|Artful> Thinking of Blake leads him to try and sit up. He needs to see what's going on.
  9. 2:51 PM <CG|Artful> ||
  10. 2:54 PM <•Antioch|GM> The skin feels like his own, it doesn't hurt or twinge at any exploratory prods. Lifting his shirt up to check, there's a pinkish splotch, lighter than the surrounding skin, like a freshly healed wound. Almost certainly Blake's work.
  11. 2:54 PM <•Antioch|GM> Even though it's not his old bedroom, there are points of familiarity. The shirt and shorts are his own, he's pretty sure, and the posters flattened out under a stack of books in the corner -- both posters and books appear to be his. ||
  12. 3:04 PM <CG|Artful> ...
  13. 3:04 PM <CG|Artful> ((Sorry it didn't notify me))
  14. 3:05 PM <CG|Artful> He's in a safe place that's for sure. But he feels anything but. Last thing he remembers he'd been stabbed, now he's here.
  15. 3:06 PM <CG|Artful> He'd... felt himself fade from the world. In a very different way than when he'd been knocked out by that taser. More like when he'd triggered, and almost died.
  16. 3:06 PM <CG|Artful> He'd... almost died.
  17. 3:07 PM <CG|Artful> He looks for a trash can and runs over to throw up in it. He dry heaves.
  18. 3:07 PM <CG|Artful> ||
  19. 3:09 PM <•Antioch|GM> There's not so much a trash can as there is an empty moving box with some assorted clutter at the bottom of it. Thankfully, his stomach is empty. Not much comes out.
  20. 3:09 PM <•Antioch|GM> The sound of it seems to alert someone -- as he pauses to gasp for breath, he can hear footsteps approaching, at faster than a walking pace. ||
  21. 3:12 PM <CG|Artful> ...
  22. 3:15 PM <CG|Artful> Freddie turns his head quickly, peering over his shoulder. He rises to his feet, so he can face the door.
  23. 3:16 PM <CG|Artful> "Hello?" He asks, wiping his mouth.
  24. 3:16 PM <CG|Artful> ||
  25. 3:17 PM <•Antioch|GM> "Freddie?" his brother asks, knocking on the door, "It's Cameron. You alright?" ||
  26. 3:22 PM <CG|Artful> "Uh yeah, come in." Freddie replies, relaxing a little.
  27. 3:22 PM <CG|Artful> "What the hell happened?" He asks, before Cameron is even fully in the room.
  28. 3:22 PM <CG|Artful> ||
  29. 3:25 PM <•Antioch|GM> "Antithesis attacked the hospital," he says, stepping in. He's dressed in business clothes, which is mildly jarring -- he can't put his finger on it for a moment, then he realizes he's seen more of his brother as Cantus Aureus than Cameron Garza.
  30. 3:25 PM <•Antioch|GM> "She was trying to kill or kidnap Blake, apparently. We can't ask her now -- she's dead."
  31. 3:25 PM <•Antioch|GM> "That said," he continues, frowning, "she took two capes down with her. Khandhas and Absynthesis." ||
  32. 3:28 PM <CG|Artful> Freddie doesn't even know who the hell Antithesis is, well was. He guesses he never will, aside from the memories she'd left him.
  33. 3:30 PM <CG|Artful> He feels a brief moment of sadness hearing Khandas hadn't made it. Sure he'd been a weirdo, but Freddie was reasonably sure he hadn't deserved to lose his life.
  34. 3:30 PM ⇐ Lysa|GM3 quit (lysa@net-l0m5uf.md.comcast.net) Ping timeout: 181 seconds
  35. 3:30 PM <CG|Artful> Still he can't be too upset hearing that the King had made it. If those two deaths were the only ones, that meant the kid had made it out okay too.
  36. 3:30 PM <CG|Artful> Freddie nods, and looks his brother in the eye.
  37. 3:31 PM <CG|Artful> Absynthesis dying hurts more than Khandas' had. She wasn't all that bad. (Add this after he didn't deserve to lose his life)
  38. 3:32 PM <CG|Artful> "Man. What the fuck." Freddie says shaking his head, he doesn't bother to censor his language.
  39. 3:32 PM <CG|Artful> ||
  40. 3:35 PM <•Antioch|GM> Cameron shakes his head.
  41. 3:35 PM <•Antioch|GM> "I don't know the why of it," he says, "but it's got something to do with the Tinkers outside of town. The Longinus stuff. It's why there are so many new capes coming in, most of them Tinkers. Caitiff, Russian Roulette... Antithesis, too, I guess." ||
  42. 3:37 PM <CG|Artful> ...
  43. 3:37 PM <CG|Artful> And it all comes back to the fucking Tinkers, he shakes his head again. This time he pinches the bridge of his nose as he does so.
  44. 3:38 PM <CG|Artful> "How long have I been asleep for?" He asks, after a few moments.
  45. 3:38 PM <CG|Artful> As he asks the topic of Tinkers reminds him... he has somewhere he needed to be! Did he miss it?
  46. 3:38 PM <CG|Artful> ||
  47. 3:39 PM <•Antioch|GM> "Ten, eleven hours?" Cameron says. "It's about lunchtime."
  48. 3:39 PM <•Antioch|GM> The time window is still open, even if he might need to shave off some time from staking out the place, setting up, preparing an ambush. ||
  49. 3:40 PM <CG|Artful> "Shit." He says, turning to go look around the room.
  50. 3:40 PM <CG|Artful> After fruitless searching he turns back to Cameron. "Is my costume here?"
  51. 3:41 PM <CG|Artful> "Where is here anyway?" He says, pausing.
  52. 3:41 PM <CG|Artful> ||
  53. 3:41 PM → Pink joined (Pink@net-vqhtj6.dyn.optonline.net)
  54. 3:43 PM <•Antioch|GM> "Yeah," he replies. "It's in the plastic garment bag in your closet. I took it to dry cleaning yesterday, to get the paint stains out."
  55. 3:43 PM <•Antioch|GM> "We're on the west side of Cleveland. Closer to the Primus HQ, along the Detroit Shoreway. New place." ||
  56. 3:44 PM <CG|Artful> And thus the mystery of the all white costume was solved.
  57. 3:45 PM <CG|Artful> "Oh hell yeah, thanks Cam." Freddie says tossing his brother a shaky smile.
  58. 3:45 PM <CG|Artful> He's still shaken to his core at his close call, but the talking is taking the edge off for him.
  59. 3:45 PM <CG|Artful> He goes to the closet to go pull the bag out, and starts removing the pieces.
  60. 3:46 PM <CG|Artful> "When you said you were selling the place I didn't expect it to be so quick." He says as he looks over his costume.
  61. 3:46 PM <CG|Artful> ||
  62. 3:48 PM <•Antioch|GM> "I found an interested buyer faster than expected," he says. "Real estate prices on that side of town are dropping, and not only because of the Tinker thing -- Blackjack is getting closer, too. With the new developments, shopping centers, public school system funding, and proximity to Primus, property values here are already starting to trend up."
  63. 3:48 PM <•Antioch|GM> "What do you need the costume for, anyways?" ||
  64. 3:52 PM <CG|Artful> "Oh gotcha." Freddie says, only half way paying attention to the real estate knowledge. Fucking Blackjack though. Freddie's momentarily saddened he hadn't gotten to fuck with them more.
  65. 3:52 PM <CG|Artful> "I need it for when I give Falconer the aerial ass kicking of his life." He continues.
  66. 3:52 PM <CG|Artful> ||
  67. 3:53 PM <•Antioch|GM> Cameron raises an eyebrow. "Who?" ||
  68. 3:53 PM <CG|Artful> "I don't know. Some Tinker over in the fucked up part of town."
  69. 3:55 PM <CG|Artful> Freddie says as he begins to pull his shirt off, he pauses with it halfway over his face. "Is there a place I can leave from here in costume or should I change somewhere else?"
  70. 3:55 PM <CG|Artful> ||
  71. 3:58 PM <•Antioch|GM> "Damn. I didn't think about that when I picked the place out," he says. "There are some woods next to the public park a neighborhood down, or if you head on up to Detroit Shoreway they've got some alleys, I guess."
  72. 3:58 PM <•Antioch|GM> "I've never really thought about that. Perks of having an HQ, I guess." ||
  73. 4:02 PM <CG|Artful> "Yeah not all of us are making big business bucks, doing this cape stuff." Freddie says, smirking at Cameron as he shoves his costume in the bag.
  74. 4:02 PM <CG|Artful> He needs to rush over there quickly if he wants to make it.
  75. 4:04 PM <CG|Artful> He pauses as he makes it to the door. "What you getting up to today?" He asks. Freddie feels like he hasn't seen much of Cameron at all. The not being used to seeing him as Cam anymore makes him want to check up on him.
  76. 4:04 PM <CG|Artful> ||
  77. 4:07 PM <•Antioch|GM> "With the hospital trashed, Primus is stepping in to the East Ohio district to give the People a breather. New patrol routes, more coverage. Showing our new cape, Skyshatter, the ropes."
  78. 4:07 PM <•Antioch|GM> "While the PRT and Protectorate are working hard to tackle the Tinker problem, we'll make ourselves available and shore up any areas in the city proper that they need," he continues. "And, uh..."
  79. 4:07 PM <•Antioch|GM> Cameron pauses, seemingly stuck on whether he wants to say something or not. ||
  80. 4:09 PM <CG|Artful> ...
  81. 4:09 PM <CG|Artful> Freddie continues to hang in the doorway, he raises an eyebrow.
  82. 4:10 PM <CG|Artful> "What's up man?"
  83. 4:10 PM <CG|Artful> ||

  88. 4:26 PM <CG|Artful> He can't let that happen. He didn't sell his soul to see that kid get himself killed.
  89. 4:27 PM <CG|Artful> "Any word on his whereabouts let /me/ know." Freddie says, pointing at Cameron.
  90. 4:27 PM <CG|Artful> ||
  91. 4:29 PM <•Antioch|GM> "Will do," he says. He frowns slightly.
  92. 4:29 PM <•Antioch|GM> "You're bouncing back fast. It's been minutes since you got out of bed from getting stabbed through the liver and stomach and you're already itching for a fight." ||
  93. 4:31 PM <CG|Artful> Freddie frowns at that. He hadn't exactly thought of it that way, and his hand passes over his belly again sub consciously.
  94. 4:32 PM <CG|Artful> It was just the timing of things. Sure he got a rush off of it, but these were things that needed to get done weren't they?
  95. 4:35 PM <CG|Artful> "No rest for the wicked bro, you know that" Freddie says, forcing a smirk back onto his face.

  104. 4:40 PM <CG|Artful> "Later!"

  106. 4:44 PM <•Antioch|GM> He steps out the door, wide, brisk strides, and then it outright turns into a jog as the beat of the music he's listening to speeds up. Duffel bag with his costume and paints bouncing off his back behind him, it doesn't take him any time at all to reach a secluded portion of the woods to change into his costume.
  107. 4:44 PM <•Antioch|GM> In the middle of December, as it's approaching Christmas? Changing outside fucking sucks. ||
  108. 4:50 PM <CG|Artful> ...
  109. 4:52 PM <CG|Artful> Fuck, he's freezing his nuts off out here. He scrambles into his costume as quickly as possible, but fumbling with his headphones loses him a second.
  110. 4:53 PM <CG|Artful> When he finally has it on he tosses his bag with his clothes into a bush nearby and dusts himself off. He makes sure he has his paints, and belt properly strapped. Once he has all that. He wastes no time.

  118. 4:59 PM <•Antioch|GM> Awkwardly, thanks to Cameron's pursuit of rising property prices, he's on exactly the wrong side of Cleveland. By the time he goes across the river, the chill is sinking into his bones. ||

  605. 11:05 PM <CG|Artful> He hadn't hurt the guy to badly, he'd won, maybe gotten another job soon.
  606. 11:06 PM <CG|Artful> And it had all happened without him brutally injuring himself for once.
  607. 11:06 PM <CG|Artful> Looks like he was improving.
  608. 11:06 PM <CG|Artful> As he comes down, he wonders about how he's going to spend the rest of his day.
  609. 11:07 PM <CG|Artful> He's not pressed for the first time in the past few days, and it's odd to him.
  610. 11:08 PM <CG|Artful> He steps out of the elevator but doesn't leave the lobby yet, it's too cold.
  611. 11:08 PM <CG|Artful> Once he's ready he steps out, and pulls his phone to check it again.
  612. 11:09 PM <CG|Artful> If there's nothing there, maybe he'll call someone. He is interested in the whole Critical thing. Should he even hit them up?

  614. 11:13 PM <•Antioch|GM> There's a text from Cameron.
  615. 11:13 PM <•Antioch|GM> "Blake's doing a memorial service for Khandhas and Absynthesis tonight, wanted me to ship you an invite. It's at 6 tonight, at Monroe Cemetary near the hospital."

  617. 11:14 PM <CG|Artful> Dodger hadn't known either one of them really well, but it's the least he can do. They'd all fought together, and not everyone had made it.
  618. 11:14 PM <CG|Artful> "I'll be there." Dodger replies, and checks the time.
