- Name: aluminum air battery
- Objective: move a motor using alligator clips, charcoal, salt water and aluminum
- Procedure: cut a piece of aluminum foil 6x6 inches dissolve salt In the warm water than fold the paper towel into fourths dip the paper towel in the salt water and dampen it. Place the folded paper towel on top od the aluminum than use a spoon to pour activated charcoal on the paper towel than crush the charcoal with the spoon into fine grains. Put a small piece of tape to the motor shaft to be able to tell when the motor is moving. Than strip the rubber from the leads of the alligator clips and place it on the charcoal. Hook the other alligator clip to the motor.
- Observation: I noticed when you exposed the alligator clip amd folded the paper towel and tinfoil around the alligator clip like a taco it worked way better. Also, the charcoal had to be dampened with salt water to work.
- Data analysis: batteries convert chemical energy into electrical energy. A battery has a cathode and an anode this is where the chemical reactions take place. The electrodes are connected by an electrolyte through which ions can move to complete an electric. The battery relies on the oxidation of the aluminum to produce electrical energy.

- One graham of activated charcoal can have more internal surface area than an entire basketball court. The large reaction area makes it possible for the simple aluminum air battery to power a small electrical device.
- Conclusion: you can make an air batter with simple components like charcoal aluminum and salt water. And with this you can power a small electric motor.
