-What Operating Systems are supported?

Toontown Rewritten is a cross-platform game that runs on supported operating systems in the requirements.

-Which CPU should I use?

Toontown Rewritten is a dual core application. Additional cores will not make the game go any faster, though an "extra" core that the game isn’t using may help slightly by keeping background tasks from using the same cores as the game itself.

Accordingly, a recommended CPU has a good IPC, a fair clock rate, and four cores or more.

Intel: For the most part, newer is better when it comes to Intel processors. Within a single generation of processors, the difference between i5 and i7 (hyper-threading/extra core counts) don't affect the game very much. Newer generations will give higher performance per clock.

AMD: Some games didn't match the strengths of AMD processors until the Ryzen line. As such, we can only recommend Ryzen or newer among AMD's line of processors.

Apple Silicon: This is Apple's own ARM based line of chips, and since 2023, the game has been updated to utilize these chips. We can only recommend Macs with these chips as opposed to the Intel ones for better performance.


-Which Operating System should I use?

Based on the tests, we have printed out the results.

Linux: For the most part, newer is better when it comes to Linux operating systems. With each new release, this operating system gets better with new features, applications, and more. Beware of older releases though, as they may not be supported by the game.

macOS: Any supported version up to the latest one should work instantly, but on Apple Silicon, it will work best with at least Ventura or later. Tahoe is currently in beta and it's not officially supported yet. High Sierra and older are not supported.

Windows: Due to complicated OpenGL support, the Windows Operating Systems are poor choices on most, if not all budget or low-end systems for Toontown Rewritten. These systems running it with Intel iGPUs will be around half the speed of the game performance with Toontown Rewritten on Linux. We can only recommend Nvidia GPUs for this Operating System if you want the game to run well, otherwise, use Linux or macOS.

-Which GPU do I need?

Choosing a GPU is a fairly simple task. The more powerful the graphics card, the more pixels and enhancements you can throw at it before you’ll see your frames drop.

NVIDIA: Any modern NVIDIA GPU will be able to play the game quite well. Old (10+ years) GPUs may struggle, and are not recommended.

AMD: Any modern AMD GPU will perform well in this game, but we recommend macOS or Linux for these GPUs. Old (10+ years) GPUs may struggle, and are not recommended.

Intel: Intel iGPUs will handle this game well on Linux and macOS, though an Apple Silicon Mac or a full fledged discrete graphics card is still highly recommended. Windows users may experience crashes with these iGPUs, and are not recommended for them.

Apple Silicon: You know, every Mac using this will run the game well regardless of how old it is! This will be updated when this is no longer true.


-My Laptop has an Dedicated GPU, but I still crash on Windows!

You may need to tweak the system to force the use of your Dedicated GPU.

Nvidia:
1. Open the Nvidia Control Panel by searching for it in the start menu.

2. In the Nvidia Control Panel, select "Manage 3D Settings" under the 3D Settings section on the left panel. On the right panel, select the "Program Settings" tab.

3. Select TTREngine.exe from the first drop-down menu. Next, go through all the options in the second section and select appropriate graphics settings.

4. Finally, click on the "Apply" button to save changes.

AMD:
1. Select ‘Catalyst Control Center‘ from the context menu.

2. From the list of panels on the left, select ‘Power‘.

3. Under ‘Power’, select ‘Switchable application graphics settings‘.

4. Here you will see a list of apps that AMD already recognizes as needing better GPU support. On that panel is an ‘Add Application’ button. Click it and select TTREngine.exe.

5. After you add the application, open the dropdown next to it for setting graphics options. Select ‘High performance’ and you’re done. The app will always use the AMD graphics card.
