  1. A Fragile Heart
  2.
  3. Pulling into your apartment complex’s parking you breathed a sigh of relief. “Free, finally free.” Work was really murder for you lately, really bringing a whole new meaning to the phrase “Wet work”. Shaking your head you pushed work out of your thoughts and exited your car. Breathing in the air you were surprised at how warm it was. It was February wasn't it? The days and months seemed to blur together when you didn't pay much attention to time. Shrugging you headed inside. All you wanted to do was relax. Relax and well… see your girlfriend.
  4.
  5. As you waited for the elevator seeing the number tick down to the ground floor your thoughts drifted to your girlfriend. “Betty.” just the thought of her was enough to send a spark in the frigid cold in your heart. Smirking your thoughts were ended by the chime and the doors of the elevator opening up to you. Entering you pressed your floors button and awaited ascension. The trip up was uneventful and soon you were outside your door. You were about to go for your keys when you rolled your eyes. “She probably left it unlocked again.” Sure enough as you turned the handle it was. Every time you came home it was never ordinary. You wondered what it would be this time
  6.
  7. Walking into your apartment you did so silently. The perks of being a cat you guessed was that you were naturally quiet. As you expected it was always something from Betty. The Kitchen counter and tables were filled with empty bottles and the rest of the place was generally a mess. This was not surprising when you arrived home early, she always left her cleaning to the last minute. Scatterbrained, air head, loose minded, these were some words you would use to describe her, but all the same you didn't mind. It broke up the monotony of your life away from work. Walking over to your couch you sat down and watched whatever garbage was on the TV.
  8.
  9. Listening to Betty Curse and rush around the apartment cleaning up, you were content to wait and see how long it took for her to notice you. Darting back and forth vacuuming and cleaning, you started thinking she must have had something planned to be in such a rush. The TV wasn't nearly as entertaining to just sit and watch Betty. “Come on, Come on, Come on, Come on! Why do I always leave it to the last minute!” A question you genuinely wouldn't mind an answer for, as she moved next to you. “She'll be here any minute! Gotta make this place spotless! Got to make… spotless?” Looking right at you said a “Hello” and sent her into a scream.
  10.
  11. Screaming loudly that high pitched girly scream you waited patiently for her to be finished with her episode. “W-w-when did you get home!?” Shrugging you answered “10 or 15 minutes ago why?” Pouting, she stomped her foot “A-and you couldn't say anything!” Shrugging again you smugly smiled. “You looked busy.” Staring at you with an angry face, slowly it softened up. Laughing, she sat next to you and hugged you. “I'm glad your home Margaret!” Holding you tight she continued to talk “I just wanted today to be perfect! It is a special day today after all.” Special day? “What makes today so special?” Pulling away from you she looked shocked “Don't tell me you don't know!” This game was starting to annoy you. “It's Valentine's Day, silly!” Oh was that it? “I got a whole day planned for us!” Awww heck you thought to yourself. “I've waited so long for this day! First were going to go and visit this new little coffee shop that opened up that's supposed to be great! Then we’re going to.” As she trailed off you stopped listening and groaned in your mind. You just wanted to relax.
  12.
  13. Walking Next to Betty, you and her sipped your coffees. So far the day was normal and you preferred it that way. Betty was leading you to the next part of your date as every time you asked she just smiled and said it was a “Secret!” You didn't like secrets. You were good at finding out secrets. As you walked you felt a tug on your arm. You must have been lost in thought again staring at nothing. Turning to look at Betty she was quickly looking around, Why was she-. Without warning she quickly pulled you into a hug. Holding her own body against your chest you were frozen. Just as quickly as it happened she pulled away and blushed. “Sorry I know you don't like public displays of affection, so I'll take what i can get.” Feeling a strange feeling in your chest you looked away and began to walk. “It's no problem Betty.” Rushing up next to you, you both walked for less than a minute before she latched onto your arm and nuzzled her head into your shoulder. “Betty i-.” “I'm sorry but it's valentines day.” Looking up at you with those beautiful eyes of hers she pleaded, her bright golden hair flowed against the wind. Your words hitched in your throat. She was so beautiful. It made your heart rate quicken and stomach feel floaty. It didn't feel natural to you these feelings. It was always a foreign feeling when you were near her, but you didn't dislike it either.
  14.
  15. “Ok fine.” Beaming at your words she straightened herself up next to you and walked with you. Being close to her like this...you liked it. You didn't like that it was in public however. Public displays of affection like this could get people's attention, or make people stare. You hated peoples stares. Looking down at Betty by your side, the warmth in your heart spread again. You kept a straight face but deep down you wanted to smile. It was difficult for you to show your emotions. Walking with her and seeing the beauty that is within Betty your thoughts took a negative turn. Does she truly love me? Do you even truly love her? She was so beautiful, so sweet, how did you two end up like this? You were so scared of your emotions. They were what truly hurt, you could take all the pain on the outside, can be hurt physically, but not emotionally, not on the inside. Keeping distant would keep you safe. Trust was such a hard thing to do. Even harder to receive.
  16.
  17. Walking together you reached your destination. It was the cinema. “Oh no”, you thought, she probably wanted to watch some romantic comedy or something. They were pretty boring films, but at least they have happy endings. Better than a sad or dramatic one for no reason. Entering you could see happy couples on dates of their own. “I think you will like this movie Margaret.” She said with a smile nudging your arm, with a wink. “I have yet to see a romantic comedy of yours that I like Betty.” Giggling she just pulled you by the hand to your seats after she got your tickets. It was a little embarrassing being pulled by the hand in public like this, you tried not to blush. Finding your seats you waited patiently for the movie to start. You didn't get the point of movie theaters. Food is overpriced, seating sucks, too close to people who suck and it costs a lot too. You would rather just wait for the movie to go on DVD then watch in the comfort of your home. Maybe even cuddled up with Betty. As The lights dimmed and Movie was about to start, Betty leaned in and whispered in your ear. “Like I said i think you will like this one.” Giving you that lovely smile she grabbed your hand as the room darkened. You were glad the dark could hide your blush, Being so intimate around so many people embarrassed you. Seeing the Movies intro play and the title soon afterwards you groaned in your head. It was some secret agent movie. She must think you like action movies which is fine but these are always so unrealistic.
  18.
  19. The lights went back on and you sat in your chair as the movie ended. That was so unrealistic it was almost funny. Scratch that it was funny. “There is no way in hell someone could walk into an enemy base like that in a suit and not be spotted in the first 5 seconds!” Betty giggled next to you as you got out of your seats. “And those explosions! Not everything blows up when you shoot it you know” Betty now laughing from the seriousness of your voice and critiques rubbed against you as you walked. “And the way they infiltrated was so foolish, I could have thought of at least 5 ways to sneak in undetected! Why let's start with…” But before you could Betty cut you off “See i knew you would love it! Why else would you be so into it!” Shrugging you thought of something to say when Betty placed her hand in yours cutting off your thoughts. As you turned your head to protest she leaned in and attempted to give you a quick kiss but you stopped her, putting both hands on her shoulders. Blinking at you in a awkward position you thought fast. “I-i’ll be right back.” Dashing away from Your girlfriend's puzzled face, you escaped to the restrooms and locked yourself in a stall. You really did have a thing against public display of affection but it was more than that. The emotions she made you feel. It was so powerful, something you had trouble understanding, controlling.
  20.
  21. Taking a minute to sit in silence you exited and stared at yourself at the sink's mirror. What did she really see in you? You hated yourself and you hated these feelings. Loving someone so much you almost wanted to kill them. Looking down you continued to berate yourself. This day of romance didn't help anything when it came to your emotions. Love, it was so new and confusing to you. You hated how scary this was. Being with someone. Being able to be hurt from the heart. Looking up at yourself with tears now in your eyes you sniffed. That silly little girl inside you that you tried to remove shows itself again. No matter how hard you try, you were still just human. Wiping your tears you tried to smile. You don't smile a lot. Maybe just this once, on this day. You would do it for her. Looking back down you took a deep breath and looked back up at yourself. This time you were back to your old self. As if nothing ever happened. Walking out you were backed with new determination
  22.
  23. Walking back to the plaza you saw Betty leaning against the wall staring down and looking sad. That was your fault but you would fix it. Seeing you walking towards her she spoke. “Margaret I'm sorry, I know you don't like that kind of stuff and I should-'' Surprising Betty by grabbing her hand she stopped talking. Well this was it, closing your eyes and taking a deep breath you leaned in and gave Betty a quick kiss on the lips before quickly pulling away and looking away. Daring to take a glance back you could see Betty's face change from a look of confusion to a smile. “Wow Margaret i-” “This is too embarrassing for me.” Cutting her off quickly. Never letting go of her hand you led her outside away from the eyes of everyone inside. You would have felt a more calm skydiving then what you just did. Walking together hand in hand you kept silent for some time. Betty had other plans however as she intertwined her fingers with yours and nuzzled into your shoulder. “So what made you act that way?” Looking away you fought the tightness that was in your chest from her subtle action. “You said it yourself right? Its valentines day.” Giggling Betty held her place against you as you spoke. “Come on let's go home, i have had enough of being in society for one day” “But i had dinner scheduled!” You shrugged. “We’ll just order a pizza then, like old times.” Smiling up at you, you both walked home, hand in hand.
  24.
  25. Walking inside your apartment breathed a sigh of relief. Finally The privacy you desired from the world. Removing your jacket you collapsed on your couch, Betty sitting beside you. “I'm glad valentine's day is over, it's not my favorite holiday.” Bettys giggles confused you as you looked at her. “I'm glad too, because now we can enjoy valentines night~.” Kissing you on the cheek Betty got up and disappeared into the kitchen. Soon you heard the sounds of bottles opening, clinking and being poured. You groaned loudly. Your Girlfriend Betty was a bartender and always trying to invent new drinks or learning the current ones. Sometimes this meant you had to try them as well. You hate alcohol. It dimmed the senses and made you act different. It destroyed your inhibitions and made you more open. Something she often took advantage of. Reappearing from the kitchen she returned with two glasses in hand and a bottle. “Betty you know i don't like to-” “Come on just one drink?” Pouting, and battering her eyelashes she looked at you knowing such a cute face was always your weakness. Sighing, you answered. “Ok fine but just one.”
  26.
  27. Smiling, she placed a glass in front of you and herself with the bottle of what looked like vodka. “Cheers!” Clinking your glasses together you brought the firewater to your lips and swallowed. It didn't taste as bad as you were expecting. Finishing your drink you looked at Betty who finished hers. “What was that?” “A white Russian.” Giving you a wink you placed your glass down with Betty's. You didn't drink at all so it didn't take a lot of alcohol or a lot of time to affect you. As Betty went to refill your glass with just vodka you stopped her. “I said just one would be fine.” “Ahhhh come on please? Your so much more fun when your not stiff as a board haha.” Grinning smugly you grabbed Betty's chest. “The only board is right here.” Yelping in surprise Betty pushed your hand away and frowned. “You’re one to talk Silly” Reaching to put her hand on your chest you grabbed it just before and twisted it in muscle memory in one motion. Betty locked in place let out a “Ow ow ow” twisted. Getting control of yourself again you let go and apologized. “I-im sorry Betty it must be those self defense classes i took or something haha.” Your fake laugh left you feeling awkward. Feeling her wrist and seeing it was fine she poured you a drink and placed it in your hands. “See you do need to loosen up.” Staring down at the drink than back at Betty you hated how much of a pushover you were when it came to her. Bringing it to your lips and drinking the whole thing in one gulp you coughed afterwards as the liquid burned your throat on the way down. “Why does anyone drink this stuff.”
  28.
  29. Placing the glass down Betty giggled as she moved next to you. Downing the entire contents of her glass into her mouth she placed her glass down. Grabbing your chin she opened your mouth as she placed her mouth over yours in a kiss. The shock and surprise froze you as she forced the contents of her mouth into yours. Wrapping her slender arms around you she forced you down on the couch as Vodka swapped back and forth in your mouths. As Betty's tongue assaulted your mouth in a pool of vodka you had to swallow gulp after gulp. Your mind was begging to go fuzzy from the lack of oxygen and alcohol intake. Betty breaking the kiss with a loud “Muah!” grinned. You were both left gasping for air and panting as you swallowed the last of the vodka. Looking down at you Betty smiled and laid next to you. “You’re so much fun to play with Margaret.” Placing her hand on your belly you looked into her beautiful eyes as her hair draped the cushion next to you. Placing a hand on her cheek and caressing gently you elicited a soft purr from her as she closed her eyes. Your thoughts of agitation from her softcore waterboarding of you were replaced with the thoughts you had at the cinema. Does she love me? “H-hey Betty?” You felt so ridiculous stuttering your words. You never did that. Fluttering her eyes open she answered with a cute “Mhm” giving you her full attention. “Do you love me?” There was silence as your words reached her ears. Each second feeling like icy blades were gripping your heart. Her face turned into a serious one as she raised herself and looked at you. Oh my god. Sinking your claws into the couch your heart felt like it was going to burst as it raced in anticipation for her next words. But your emotions hit full stop when she ushered forth her words. “Of course i love you Silly.” Leaning down she kissed you on your forehead. “I love you more than a flower loves the rain.” Kissing you on the nose. “I love you more than Tea in the morning.” Kissing you on the lips. “I love you more than anything in my life, Margaret.” Bringing yourself to her lips you kissed her back with a warm feeling in your chest you had never felt before.
  30.
  31. Breaking the kiss for air you both gasped for air strands of saliva still connected you. Looking longingly into her eyes as she panted for air with her tongue hanging out, the cold in your heart, your soul was replaced with warmth as you smiled. Maybe just for tonight You could let your guard down. Maybe just for tonight, on this valentines day you could give a piece of yourself to someone else. On this valentines night, you could give your heart to your beautiful girlfriend, Betty. You never did get around to ordering that pizza”
