- Looking around at the blue sea and clear sky, you felt the dryness in your throat pull on you.
- "Water spirit. Definitely water spirit." you said declaritively, looking at Kilo. "The sooner the better!"
- "Alright!" Kilo said, laughing. "Let's go!"
- ---
- Twenty minutes later, your motivation to find the water spirit was deader than a doornail. The very jungle itself seemed to be fighting your progress, and as you tried to manuever the wet soil pulled at your bare feet in an attempt to hold you down. The only good news so far was that you heard running water up ahead. Or, you thought you did.
- "Kilo?" you asked carefully, pressing on while you asked. "I hear running water. Does that mean we're close?"
- Shrugging, the catgirl waved a hand. "We're in her area of influence, sure. I'm pretty certain it's going to take a bit more than hearing some water trickling to find her, though, unless she-"
- As Kilo tripped over a root and fell in a pool, you saw the jungle thinning. Grabbing your companion and helping her up, you pushed through, looking for a river. When you found it, though, you smiled. It wasn't a particularly clean river, and when you cupped some in your hands to drink it looked almost like tea, but it was flowing and passed a quick sniff test. As you drank, you found the taste eerily familiar. Casting your mind back to numerous camping trips with the Scouts and your family, you finally realized where you recognized it- Tannin. Chuckling, you took another drink as you diagnosed the cause of the color- there must be trees in the river upstream. Just like soaking oak chips in water to get a tanning solution, the tree was leaching it's tree-ness out into the water, which was why it tasted like a weak tea mixed with really terrible beer.
- You were almost done when something splashed you. Looking around, you tried to spot it, when you got splashed from the other side. Growling, you stepped into the river, trying to find the source. That's when you felt it- a tug on your leg. Not legs, plural- a leg. It seemed to make you want to turn around, so you shifted slowly and brought yourself to look at the shore. Moments later, a wet form plastered itself to your back, a pair of watery hands pressed to your face.
- "Guess who?" it said, laughing quietly. Stepping carefully, you tried to turn around, but the form behind you was much more nimble in the riverbed than you, staying firmly behind you. Sighing, you decided to just play along.
- "A Water spirit?"
- "Clooose..." the voice said. "I mean, I am one, of course, but that's so unimaginative!"
- As you carefully backed up again, you felt a very female body press into what was left of your clothes, before they soaked through. "So, do you have a name then?"
- "Yeeeees~"
- "Would you like to share it?"
- "Only if you can beat me in a game!"
- "What kind of game?" you asked carefully. If it was 'Hold your breath underwater' your only answer was a flat 'no'.
- "Well, there's dancing, there's singing, there's checkers... or we could skip right to something more, hmmmm... physical~?"
- You had to consider your options carefully here. You'd just started pushing back your invisible dehydration meter, and you'd started off pretty well fed and hydrated. That said, you'd also been doing a fair amount of exercise getting here, and trying anything was a bit of a crapshoot. On the other hand, you were only a passable singer, and your checkers games sucked rocks. This was a cleft fork, no matter how you looked at it.
- "Well? What do you want to do?" the Water spirit asked. "If you don't pick, then I can choose whatever I want~"
- Shit. Think fast!
