  1. “look at this one, and this, and all those!” hans says excitedly as he zooms around between racks of weapons, rivaling even Alice’s enthusiasm
  2. >after finally getting some money from the goblins you decided that it would be best to use the common medieval weapons to conserve ammo for more stressing situations. Hans comes to a stop and picks up a staff capped with a large red gemstone.
  3. “I like the look of this one”
  4. >Henrik has already claimed a large zweihander
  5. >your eyes scan the many types of medieval killing implements and come to rest on a one handed broadsword with a red gemstone set into the pommel, like hans’ staff. You pick it up and give it a few swings. Very nice
  6. “how much for all this?” you call out to the man behind the counter
  7. “that’ll be ten gold pieces”
  8. >you pay the man and the three of you head outside. Its been a few days since you cleared out the goblin lair. You’ve spent the time since getting to know more about the world your small group has found yourselves in. the country you’re currently in is called Adventenium, currently ruled over by an emperor, who is in control of the most powerful adventurer faction, he is advised by a series of nobles, most of which are also in control of an adventurer faction. Basically the more powerful your faction, the higher up in the world you are.
  9. “should we see if there’s anything on the board?” says Hans, twirling his new staff eagerly.
  10. “sure”
  11. >once back inside the guild building you move over to the mission board. Mostly the same as yesterday.
  12. “hows this?” Henrik says as he hands you a page
  13. >Escort a carriage of produce to Strom, expect to fight wild animals and bandits.
  14. “looks pretty good, the people at Strom will like us even more ”
  15. “can I set things on fire?” says Hans, looking at the page over your shoulder
  16. “Can you set things on fire?”
  17. >the tip of his staff spawns a small ball of fire
  18. “Ja!”
  19. >you move over to the counter with alice, who is currently writing with speed that may cause the paper to combust. A group of three other women cower in the corner.
  20. “uhh, hey Alice, we’re about to go on another mission, do you want to come?”
  21. >She looks up from her paper, still writing though, somehow.
  22. “I’d love to, but the taxes need to be sorted out and SOMEPEOPLE DECIDED TO LEAVE IT TO THE LAST MINUTE!”
  23. >she glares at the women in the corner, who try to retreat further into the wall.
  24. “Oookay, we’ll see you later then”
  25. “bye bye”
  26. >your party wanders out onto the street. You glance at your paper to check where this cart is supposed to be, just across the street on a cart loaded with crates is a bored looking man in a wide brimmed hat playing with a large knife. You double check the page. Yup, that’s the guy. You walk over to the knife twirling driver.
  27. “Hello?’
  28. “Huh?”
  29. >As he looks around, the knife slips from his fingers. Landing point down into the wooden board next to his feet.
  30. “g’day! What can I do for you?”
  31. “Are you the guy who put this up?”
  32. >you hand over the page
  33. “Yea, that’d be me, are you lot ready to head off?”
  34. “Yes”
  35. >Hans and Henrik get into the back while you sit beside the man, who introduces himself as Bruce.
  36. >You begin your second journey to Strom with Hans trying to shoulder his staff for superior fireball accuracy. As you leave the town Bruce starts making some small talk
  37. “Soo how long have ya been ‘round here?”
  38. “About a week now, its been pretty good so far.”
  39. “And you lot are that new Frontier Reich, right?”
  40. >you hadn’t mentioned your faction to him
  41. “yes, that’s us. But I don’t think I told you that”
  42. “eh, news has its way of gettin’ around”
  43. “I don’t think I’ve seen you around Axis before”
  44. “I’ve come from the imperial capital to bring this stuff to Strom”
  45. “how far is that?”
  46. “a little bit less than a week, I left just after you sorted out those goblins”
  47. >has this guy been stalking you?
  48. “Alright, who the hell are you!”
  49. “As I said, the name’s Bruce, like you, I’m not from anywhere near here, I’m sure you would have heard of Australia”
  50. >an Allied soldier? You move to draw your luger. Bruce just waves his hand.
  51. “there’s no need for that shit right now”
  52. “TELL ME WHAT’S GOING ON OR I’LL BLOW YOUR HEAD OFF!”
  53. >Bruce waves at a concerned looking couple on the side of the road. Once you pass them Bruce sighs in annoyance, like he has to do something he really can’t be bothered to do.
  54. “I came to check up on you and your friends, so that my friends don’t go and send an army here to wipe you out. I’m supposed to make a big speech about how powerful frenchies army is, but you’re a soldier, you’re smart, I’m sure you can figure it out”
  55. “What do you mean by check up on us?”
  56. “My lot seem to have it in their heads that you’re gonna start a new holocaust or something”
  57. “Holocaust?”
  58. “you know your nazi jew gassing?”
  59. “I don't know about that, and i haven't seen any Jews”
  60. >Bruce mutters “alright then” and continues
  61. “anyway, what front were you deployed on because if its france, then theres not much I can do to stop Frenchie from smashing you”
  62. “we were in Russia, as reserves so we never saw much fighting but other then that it was pretty good”
  63. >Bruce begins to say “what about stali-“before he stops himself “never mind”
  64. >there is silence for a while before you ask
  65. “so we are all really dead?”
  66. “yup, we all died and chose rebirth”
  67. “so how did you die?”
  68. >Bruce recounts his tale that the writer is too lazy to type again.
  69. “that’s a pretty epic way to go”
  70. >he looks surprised
  71. “you think so?”
  72. “Well I died by my friend accidentally blowing my head apart with an anti-tank rifle.
  73. >You gesture to the back of the cart
  74. “that reminds me, how did all three of you end up together?”
  75. “as part of my three things that we get, I brought them along”
  76. “and they were alright with that?”
  77. “we’ll Hans owed me because he killed me, and Henrik didn’t really say that he didn’t want to come”
  78. “I guess that’s fine”
  79. “where were you deployed?”
  80. “I fought on the Kokoda against the Japanese”
  81. “Kamikaze probably won’t be a fan of you then”
  82. “Arent kamikazes the japs who crash their planes?”
  83. “that’s what I said to him!”
  84. “huh”
  85. “Are you in a faction?”
  86. “yup its called ‘The Knights of The Round Table’ though we aren’t knights and our table is a rectangle. Our leader is –he puts on a fake british accent- Theodore Mathers the second, or as I call ‘im Big Theo”
  87. “oh and Frenchie runs his own faction called ‘The Revolutionary Front’, he likes making references to the French revolution. They’re both pretty big, powerful nobles”
  88. >you continue talking until you reach Strom, where you unload the crates, get a few “thank yous” from the people and get on your way back
  89. >on the way back the conversation fades and stops, the only sounds are the various bird songs and rustling of wind through the trees
  90. >you look back at Hans and Henrik in the shade of the cart’s canopy, wondering if you should join them seeing as the sun is getting pretty hot on the unsheltered drivers seat.
  91. >up ahead a man walks into the middle of the road from the trees and waves at you. Bruce narrows his eyes and mutters under his breath
  92. “what the fuck are you doin’ cunt?”
  93. >as the cart slows more men come from the bush, armed with bows, knives and other medieval weapons
  94. “remember what the ad said ‘bout bandits?” says Bruce to the three of you.
  95. >Hans eagerly picks up his staff and hops onto the seat between you and Bruce, holding aforementioned staff like a rifle. As the cart stops he jumps down and shouts at the bandits before the can make their demands.
  96. >“THIS IS MY FLAMMENWERFER, IT WERFS FLAMMEN” the soldier screams as a 15ft jet of fire erupts from the red jewel on his staff. The bandits, clearly surprised at the angry Nazi’s proactive tactics, are either roasted on the spot or are running from a stream of both flame and German profanity. With the bandits dealt with and the immediate area on fire Hans gets back onto the cart
  97. “that was fuckin quick”
  98. “we’d better get out of here quick before we catch fire too”
  99. >the rest of the trip back to Axis was uneventful. with the sun beginning to get low on the horizon You all get off at the guild building
  100. “what are you going to tell you superiors at the capital?” you ask Bruce with an accusing tone
  101. “don’t worry, she’ll be ‘right. I’d best be off now SEE YA, CUNTS”
  102. >as the aussie speeds off into the sunset Henrik asks
  103. “did we get a reward from him?”
  104. >fuck
  105. “uhhhhh”
  106. >Hans realises too and he runs after the cart, spraying fire into the air
  107. “GIB JEW GOOOOLD”
  108. ---------------------------
  109. >Theodore Mathers sips from his cup of tea
  110. “its quite peaceful when he’s gone isn’t it”
  111. “yes, he is quite le bother usually”
  112. >the doors slam open
  113. “MISS ME CUNTS?”
  114. “Merde”
  115. “What have you to report, Bruce” says Theodore
  116. >Bruce takes his seat
  117. “It was a great outing I’ll tell you that, we took some supplies to strom, one of the Nazis set fire to some bandits and the forest then I made off without paying ‘em”
  118. “anything important? Are they a threat?”
  119. “well their leader seems to be a good bloke, but that Hans guy seems a bit *giggles* hot headed”
  120. >the joke is met with silence
  121. “we have no clue what you’re talking about”
  122. >clearly unhappy at having his jokes not understood, Bruce irritably
  123. “he was the one who set fire to the bandits”
  124. >murmurs of understanding pass around the table
  125. >a new voice shocks Bruce, he looks over to the new man at the table
  126. “Privyet”
  127. chapter 5 END
