- My parents didn't want another son. Unfortunately for them, I happened. Ususally the youngest of the family is the baby. School was a drag, but Henry made things easier. Everything a younger brother could want in an older brother. He helped me find the cheap piano lessons, helped me find a keyboard on the cheap, and even drove me to practices. As long as Henry was achieving, flying under the radar was easier. There were bad days, but hey, that's life. College was nonexistent, after all, Henry needed it more than he did. No matter how great a conservatory sounded. Scholarships were a thing, but there's always someone better. Someone worse off. Someone who deserves it more.
- Going to City N wasn't easy. But when your older brother's got your back it's a little easier. Finding a place to live wasn't easy, but when your standards are low it's a little easier. Finding a job wasn't easy, but when you're willing to do shit work for shit pay it's a little easier. Practicing the piano, bartending, cleaning a shitty apartment, it's not much of a living, but it's a living. Every day you try and do a little better. And eventually, things get a little better. At least, until things get worse again. Mastering the piano was supposed to be a ticket to life as a musician. The focus on playing perfectly was supposed to be how you learned to nail that sonata. It wasn't supposed to be this. This moment when the blood in yout veins danced in time with the music. When you awaken the renegade virus and become an Overed. But hey, at least you kept playing. After all, that's where things end up. You just keep playing.
- You start going out at night in a dumb outfit, looking for trouble. You get a lot better at fighting in just a little bit of time. You get physical with someone you know you have no business being with. You start to like making choices that make your life miserable. Suddeny performing at clubs isn't about enjoying the music, it's about trying to become famous. The stages keep changing but the music keeps playing. Only question at this point, is when my record stops.
