  1. Bukhari, narrated by Ibn Abbas (hadith mawqouf) the people of Nuh (as) worshipped the idols in the time of ignorance and yet they were called mushriks when the knowledge about who the good people was forgotten i.e. they made shrines and became jaahil about the reality. They therefore worshipped at the time of ignorance.
  2. Abu Yusuf reported in his Kitaab ul Siyaar that Abu Hanifah (rh), “There is no excuse of ignorance for the creation to be ignorant about the Creator.”
  3. Abdullah ibn Ahmed recorded in his Kitaab us-sunnah quoting one sahabi Umara saying, “It reached to be that the qadari’s will be gathered together on the day of judgement with the mushriks and the qadari’s will say, “We were not mushriks.” And it will be told to them that, “You became mushrik in the time that you did not know.” This is talking about the things known in the deen by necessity i.e. the rejection of shirk.
  4. There were some people guided that followed the truth and some people were misguided by shaytan out of ignorance: [7:30] “A group He has guided, and a group deserved to be in error; (because) surely, they took the shayatin as auliya instead of Allah, and think they are guided.”
  5. Ibn Jareer and At-Tabari say regarding [7:30] “This is proof that the ignorant person has no excuse in kufr akbar.”
  6. Ibn Kathir said regarding [7:30], “What is well known by people of ilm is that the one who commits big kufr is not excused by ignorance.”
  7. Imam Badawi in his tafseer al-baghawi said regarding [7:30], “This is evidence against the kaafir who thinks his deen is right out of ignorance and the one who denies and the one who is jahil.”
