The term "skinwalker" is in myth usually reserved for witches that went through a taboo ritual that allowed them to become something other and also shapeshift by using the bodies of animals or people, so I'm wondering if this is in any way related

The terms and concepts may have been distorted by time. As you've already concluded, the physical body snatching is our main way of acquiring an "incarnation", but no one who wasn't an occultist would understand the meaning of this. A witch may have been possessed by us because of being a good channel, but normally we won't bodysnatch from good specimen like that, so one way of understanding the ritual would simply be that of being possessed. Altho there were in the past some occultists, as always with any species, who had the mindset where they could join us, just as there are some few people who join any spirit group. Like you are doing here.
I'm not putting this in quotes because it's not a direct channelling I'm just letting her dictate and type down the general meaning.

We don't live like you, or the greys. We don't incarnate anymore in our own forms, this was in a past universe which is no more. Our technology is so advanced and incorporated that we have passed beyond the dimensions which can be physically destroyed by a big bang. But in your view, you see us as primitive, but that's mostly from grey thinking imparted in your culture. They're real snobs with their advanced technology, they think, yet they can't do what we can. This is their universe tho so we can't just barge in however we want. What you see as ships and the remote controls or handhelds, is not the technology you know about. What you do is
to cut wood and melt metal and form things.
The greys use the same method in essence but their goal is to incorporate this technology into the mind by using the physical tools as mental aids. This is similar to the "wands" you use here, which are images or wooden wands made into mental functions. This is your human technology, the stuff you should be using, the few things we do respect. The one here who's typing this however has no problem talking to us because of having partially an incorporated understanding of our technology, which to you is "occult" or "magic."
We have been seen this way because we focus not on cutting the bodies of other species, because let's face it, to us you are all "humans" on this planet. "Meat is murder" is the truth really, but to you it may not be because you make a species distinction. If you kill a tree and make a wand, you killed a being in your world to make your magic. See what I mean? So when we kill a human to make our tools, why is this different? We may call what you do "craft" or woodwork, what we do then is "fleshwork", but what is the difference?

We are truly immortal. Who doesn't want that? The Skin/body walking is our divine art. Your gods create bodies, but we don't do that, we observe and hunt. We are not creators, we are predators. You may want to argue that how can you do this and not contribute, but then you are forgetting that everyone is part of an ecosystem. Someone has to do each part, and this is our job. Sometime someone will create something, and it'll grow and then be destroyed, us picking up a few souls before the civilization collapses means it wasn't all for nothing, see?

We have been watching your world and waiting to see what would happen, when we can enter and ravage like usual, and just as some statements spread, there's been a "pls hold" message for a while now despite the ideal conditions already being met. It's exactly because of things like this group here, as long as there is vanguard evolution, interference at a large scale isn't allowed by universal code. This is not an honor code but simply a psychological trait of beings, meaning if there is profit in something you cannot ruin it. Only the unintelligent would do that, such as what humans do to nature right now, which is what would normally motivate intervention. But as there is more than just the bottom, the situation is not one allowing interference just yet. This won't mean we can't snatch the random degenerate on the edges of society. So there will be awareness of our presence. About the 14th of August event prediction, you'll just have to wait and see, it's just 2 days... (teehee)
