When you take one look at Hal, it’s clear that he doesn’t appear as a friendly face. He’s stoic and rather emotionless at times — save for the eternal deep set furrow in his brow — and upon easy inspection, he's the muscle. Preferring brawn over brains, Hal would rather hash out matters with his hands and weapons than taking it to a serious conversation. However, Hal's sweet spot is where nature resides; you know, the nature the Gladekeeper had once cared for with her claws. Flora and fauna in the stories of old have always fascinated Hal's heart and in fact, they have weaseled their way in so much so that hissing beasts and toxic plants have developed some of their own beauty to him. Hal might not think twice to harm a foe but a creature? He was never cured of the way he wavered.

Backstory:
Raised in the outskirts of Edomore, Hal wasn't the first, nor the second child to come from his parents. Born the fourth child with another shortly on the way after, Hal was predominantly raised by his two older brothers and learned quickly of the necessary means of survival; fight for what you think is right. Is that last piece of meat yours? Figure out the best way to stop me, one of them chimed. With a desire to fill his belly, Hal caught on quickly. Guided through his life and taught that scrapes, scars, and bruises were essentially rewards for everything he'd gone through. They were stories... markings to show that he was alive and willing to put up a fight for himself. Upon maturity, Hal was given two arm braces that matched his boots and even featured his pendant embedded into the wrist of one. Continuing to stay with his family, Hal spent years training in actual fighting skills with his brothers while equally working hard among the rest of the brood to bring in some semblance of livelihood for the family. Things were going great.

The Shade came out of nowhere when Hal was traversing The Overgrowth with his oldest brother. An aggressive, angry landscape, Hal was hellbent on seeing the Tree of Life hiding within — a trip he'd only taken a choice few times before. Knowing his affection towards the landscape that had been before their time and was only talked about in books now, Hal's brother had agreed to take him. Who had known the Shade would follow them? How would Hal have known they'd snatch his brother first, the other Dractare fighting for his life before telling Hal to run? Would he be able to ever stifle the blame for listening? Not knowing how to tell his family, Hal didn't go home. Instead, he took what he had on his back and set out with the impossible hope of finding his sibling in the hands of the Shade.

Notes:
Hal is good with his hands and close encounters. Swords, daggers, knives, a pointy stick, etc., will be of use for him in his time of attack. But also? Incredibly soft boy about flowers. Don't expect him to step on one.
