- Quick Guide to IRC (internet relay chat)
- ---------
- If you wish to connect to IRC, you will first need to know the server name, and the channel you want to talk in.
- Server names are in the form of irc.servername.com
- Channel names are prefixed with #, like #example
- To quickly join irc, replace <channel> and <server> with their names in the following url:
- For example, if you want to go to #speedrunslive on irc.speedrunslive.com, you would go to:
- Once there, in the text field on the page (next to "Nick:"), type in the name you wish to use and hit Enter (or click "Go")
- From here, you're all done!
- --------
- Basic commands:
- Anything in angle brackets (these: < >) are meant to be replaced with whatever is described inside.
- Anything including and after the semicolon (this: ;) is not meant to be typed, it describes the action.
- /join <channel> ;join the specified channel on the same server
- /nick <nick> ;change your current nick to the one specified
- /server <server> ;change your current server to the one specified
- /nickserv register <password> <email address> ;register your nick to prevent people from using it
- /nickserv identify <password> ;after registering a nick, you can identify using this line
- --------
- IRC Clients:
- For more features and a better chat experience, it is best to download an IRC client. This allows for high customization and ease-of-access tools like aliases, scripts, and shortcuts. A very popular example of this is mIRC.
