persona w session 0 stuff

  1. talking points during the session 0:
  2. - general one first: some of this stuff i might have already gone over in the initial advertisement thing or the application, but i just wanted to make sure we're all really on the same page here, we can have discussions about certain things that might need changing, and so on

  4. - application had stuff folks aren't alright with; not too many things were cited as being against n all, but if something comes up that you're uncomfortable with, you're free to tell me that it's making you uncomfortable (even if it would be against what you put on the application) and i'll do my best to quickly move shit along. don't care how "dumb" or "silly" it might sound like; if i gotta move the shit along to make you feel comfortable again, i'll move the shit along
  5. - realized i forgot to bring it up earlier, but i plan on doing milestones. i'll still try and give like rough estimates for when levels are coming up, progression being happening, etc; i just prefer running with milestones instead of EXP
  6. - minor thing but since this be In Japan and Be Speaking Japanese In Canon i will be having chars do like honorifics n stuff, use last names if they aren't that close, etc. you folks don't *have* to do this if you don't want to (if you don't then we can talk about if you folks would prefer i don't acknowledge it, or if you would prefer that i do and it's a Character Thing)
  7. - i give out inspiration at the end of every session (probably not this one though since it's a sess 0 so it's kind of weird lol); it will be given to the player i felt just did an overall great job, which can include stuff like using your roleplaying stuff to help involve a character that was otherwise being left out of a situation, acting on a character flaw even if meta-wise it'd be worse for you as a player (though **not something which hurts the party**, unless everyone else is also fine with it lol), or otherwise just felt very "Persona".
  8. - won't be doing crit fumbles or anything like that! enemies will sometimes get stuff a little worse on a nat 1 (usually i just make them take a little bit of damage), but for players and allied NPCs and stuff, they just work as RAW; auto-miss for attack rolls, just another roll for anything else (although if a 1 would succeed i probably won't have you roll at all lol)
  9. - same goes for nat 20s; we do 'em mostly RAW, though i do usually like to make nat 20s sort of like an "overwhelming success", where you just *really* succeed at the thing, but i won't have rolls where you need a 20 to succeed and the 20 only succeeds because It's A Crit And Is Therefore Like +99999
  10. - death **can** happen! i'm not a particularly brutal DM, like you won't have to min-max to hell and back or you'll die, but it is also definitely still possible for PCs to die. generally, as a rule of thumb: unless you get *extraordinarily* unlucky, player death is likely only going to be a risk during an important boss fight, or if it's something where i'm actively being like `"Hey, are you folks absolutely sure about this? Just letting you know, this is definitely a risky thing, and while it can pay off, it's dangerous as all hell."`
  11. - i'm not entirely sure how resurrection magic is going to work, but i'm thinking probably "revivify works just fine, other spells probably not"; that feels the most fitting to the setting IMO

  13. questions during sess 0:
  14. - what's the aesthetic you folks think would work best for the cognitive reality? for instance, Persona 5's got shit with Palaces and whatnot, it's all got a sort of "heist"/"punk" vibe to it, but in that aesthetic it manages to have a variety of Palaces with differing levels of technology and all that.
  15. - do you folks want to have knowledge of the other PCs beforehand? for instance, Shinji and and Masumi could be acquaintances or friends beforehand, Ezune and Yuuto could have met each other once before and told embarrassing secrets to the other, etc. we could do something like this (some PCs knowing the others but not all), could do something more (*all* the PCs kind of know the others, even if maybe not *that* well), or not at all (PCs are meeting for the first time at the start of the campaign)
  16. - to help the dungeon-palace-things feel more Persona-y, i'm thinking we'll do the classic thing of "the party goes into a dungeon once, makes some progress, leaves for the day, comes back at another day to repeat"--about how many times of heading into a dungeon do you folks think would be too much? you can *probably* think of "heading into a dungeon" as being *about* one session, but that'll definitely depend on things like the group's speed, the individual dungeon, etc.
