Crystal route with Return and new Kanto movement

  1. The differences from the old route are listed here. Standard strats remain in the route unless otherwise noted.

  3. The "Etherless route" works best under the following conditions, in order of importance:
  4. - Double 12s at Lv. 6
  5. - 13 Attack at Lv. 6
  6. - Out of Potions when entering Union Cave
  7. - 11 Defense at Lv. 5
  8. - 12-15 DV Speed
  9. - 9-11 DV Speed
  10. - 4-6 DV Speed
  11. - You didn't catch a Poliwag on Route 30

  15. ROUTE 30
  16. - Always kill a second Poliwag with 14 Defense at Lv. 7, or with both 13 Attack at Lv. 6 and 11-12 Speed at Lv. 7. Favor killing it with one of Attack/Speed.

  18. UNION CAVE
  19. - Pick up the X Attack
  20.         (Etherless route: Don't pick it up)
  21.  
  22. AZALEA TOWN/SLOWPOKE WELL
  23. - Sell TM31, then buy 2 Potions, 4 Super Potions, 7 Repels and 3 Antidotes
  24.         (Etherless route: Change Potions to 3 and Antidotes to 2)
  25. - Pick up the Full Heal AFTER shopping; use to heal confusion/sleep as necessary
  26. - Pick up the Super Potion
  27.  
  28. AZALEA GYM
  29. - If you have 75+ extra experience, fight either the Paras trainer or the Caterpie/Weedle trainer
  30. - Use 1-2 Potions or a Super Potion before Rival 2 (and an Antidote if Kakuna poisoned you)
  31.  
  32. ILEX FOREST
  33. - Before entering, repel four tiles before the guard's sprite (unless you need a Cut slave)
  34. - Skip the Revive, and take the north path to move Farfetch'd
  35. - Repel + teach and use Cut on the tile before the Cut bush
  36. - Pick up the hidden Full Heal unless you have the one from Azalea AND your Przcureberry
  37. - Don't pick up the X Attack
  38. - Pick up the hidden Super Potion if you have 0-4 healing items (or 5 with bad stats)
  39. - The third repel will last you through all of the Route 34 grass
  40.  
  41. GOLDENROD CITY
  42. - Get Kenya before first spinner hell pass
  43. - Use normal strats until you reach the mart after getting the Squirtbottle
  44.         (Etherless route: Fight Donald and Teru in the underground after getting the Squirtbottle)
  45. - Shopping:
  46.         > 5F: Sell TM45, then buy TM33
  47.         > 3F: Buy 1 X Speed and 2 X Special (2 X Speed if you have 13-15 DV Speed and hit only Ivan)
  48.                 (Etherless route: Buy 1 X Speed, 1 X Special and 2 X Attack (2 X Speed if you have 13-15 DV and hit Ivan+Benny))
  49.         > 2F: Buy 5 Escape Ropes, 2 Full Heals and 1 Poke Doll (6 Escape Ropes OR 3 Full Heals if hit Irwin or hit Ivan+Benny)
  50.                 (Etherless route: Same, but 6 Escape Ropes if you hit Irwin; can't afford 3 Full Heals)
  51. - Double deposit in the Goldenrod center (triple deposit if all slaves died), switch Croconaw to slot 1 on the first menu on Route 34, then progress to Ecruteak
  52.  
  53. ECRUTEAK CITY
  54. - Need 4 Headbutt HP after the Kimono Girls
  55. - Skip the mart after the girls unless you have 0-2 healing items, in which case buy 7 Super Potions
  56. - Don't pick up the hidden Hyper Potion
  57. - Need 8 Headbutt+Surf PP after Morty (at least 4 must be Surfs; 6 if need to Surf Growlithes)
  58.  
  59. OLIVINE CITY
  60. - Buy 14 Super Repels and as many Hyper Potions/Paralyz Heals/Awakenings as needed. You don't need Paralyz Heals or Awakenings unless you have 0-1 Full Heals
  61. - Teach Strength on the Kaylee pause buffer menu if you have 0-2 Headbutt PP
  62. - Do the rest of the game until Rocket Hideout as normal
  63.  
  64. ROCKET HIDEOUT
  65. - Don't pick up the Guard Spec.
  66. - Use normal PP management from here until the end of Radio Tower 1, including coupling the Ether and Escape Rope menus in the Lighthouse
  67.         (Etherless route: Don't pick up the Ether)
  68.  
  69. GOLDENROD CITY
  70. - Do Radio Tower 1 immediately, then bike back to the center and use it. Then go to the mart
  71.         (Etherless route: Use the center before Radio Tower 1, then do the shopping below, but always buy 5 X Specials and don't buy Calciums. Alternatively, if you have enough money ($7500 with perfect stats and Guard Spec. Karen, $9550 with normal buy), you can buy 2 Calciums.)
  72. - Shopping:
  73.         > 5F: Get Return TM
  74.         > 4F: Buy 3 Calcium
  75.         > 3F: Buy 4 X Special, 8-11 X Attack, 2 X Accuracy, 1 Guard Spec., 1 X Speed (no X Speed if you bought 2 on first trip; 2 X Speed and buy before X Special if <13 DV Speed)
  76.                 (Buy 5 X Special if will be Lv. 39 for Rival 4, or Lv. 40 and have Bitter Berry + bad Attack)
  77. - Upon exiting, use 3 Calciums, teach Return over Bite, and bike (from the menu) to the underground
  78.         (Etherless route: Don't teach Return yet)

  80. RADIO TOWER 1

  132. - If you're out of Surfs on Lance, use IP on Aerodactyl and Return on Charizard

  172. - After exiting, bike to Lavender Tower and talk to the guy as normal

  174. - Fly to Vermilion and enter the gym

  176. VERMILION CITY
  177. - GENTLEMAN: Return x2 (use Strength or IP if you'll out of Returns)
  178. - SURGE: Surf x2, Return, Surf x2
  179. - After exiting, bike to Snorlax. Use a Super Repel and wake Snorlax as normal
  180. - Bike through the cave to the Pewter Gym
  181.  
  182. PEWTER GYM
  183. - CAMPER: Surf (if you hit Tom, IP; if you have perfect Attack, or good Attack and Lv. 59, Return)
  184. - BROCK: Surf x4, IP (if you hit Tom, IP the Graveler and the Onix)
  185. - After exiting, bike south to Cinnabar Island
  186. - Pick up the Max Ether in Viridian Forest
  187. - Use one Super Repel in Viridian Forest and another on Cinnabar Island
  188. - Use your Max Ether on Return on the second Super Repel menu
  189.  
  190. CINNABAR ISLAND
  191. - Bike east to Blaine's gym
  192. - BLAINE: Surf, Strength, Surf
  193. - After exiting, Surf east to Fuchsia and enter the gym

  196. - JANINE: Return x5
  197. - After exiting, Fly to Viridian and enter the gym

  200. - BLUE: (X Speed), X Attack x2, Return, (X Attack), Return x4, Surf
  201. - After exiting, Fly to Pallet Town and talk to Oak

  203. PALLET TOWN
  204. - After talking to Oak, use a Super Repel, then Fly to Viridian and bike to Mt. Silver
