  10. If I asserted that the Earth is flat (which I don't) I would debate anyone who showed interest. It would be dishonest to avoid it.

  14. One thing I tried to get both "flat Earthers" and their counterparts to do was draw on a piece of paper how they imagined the sky would appear off in the distance if the Earth were the opposite of what they believed.

  18. For example - imagine a nice day with a few clouds in the sky. As you look toward the horizon the clouds will appear lower and lower in the sky.

  22. Both flat Earther and ball Earther see the same sky - it's just that one claims it's on a flat Earth and the other does not.

  26. Let's call this view of the sky the "current view". For a flat Earther it's the "current view for a flat Earth" and for a ball Earther it's the "current view for a ball Earth".

  30. So far this is not controversial nor is it confrontational.

  34. And so the task for a flat Earther becomes: "Pretend that the Earth is not flat but is really a big ball - how might that current view of the clouds look different?"

  38. And the task for a ball Earther becomes the opposite: "Pretend that the Earth is not a ball but is really flat - how might that current view of the clouds look different?"

  42. (There needs to be some difference, right? Otherwise how can a flat Earther assert the Earth is flat?!)

  46. Last year I invited several people to do this simple task and only one person responded. He drew something very childish and scribbled in big letters that I was a "C_TN" at the top of his "drawing".

  58. It is a simple activity that should show how people are "imagining" things differently.

  62. If you understand the point of the activity and can see a benefit to it then by all means take the idea and tailor it to your own needs. There's no need to credit me - I just want to see how others are imagining things!
