  9. Q1: What is the Roster for? Do I have to join it? What are the benefits?
  10.
  11. A1: The Roster exists as a way to keep track of those players who have interest in long-term investment in a growing story in the room. It is also there to make it easy for others on the roster to know who exactly is who in terms of their respective Universes, or who is just visiting the room; hopefully to make finding Roleplay partners a bit easier.
  12.
  13. We don't require anyone to join the Roster, however during canon RP events you will not be allowed to partake unless you are on the Roster. This is to help make sure that those who have shown dedication and have spent time putting together a story don't run into a situation where someone has only come into the room once, and then loses interest as well as to organize who is who in canon events versus a free-for-all of a character. Example: Five Thors in one story trying to partake.
  14.
  15. The benefits to joining the roster are that you will be able to partake in these canon events as well as the non-canon events in the room. You'll also be secured in whatever role you have worked to gain, and will be guaranteed their spot in any running story/event you wish to join.
  16. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  17. Q2: There is a character I really really want, but they are taken in 'Universe I' but not 'Universe II.' What does that mean for me? Is there a difference in the Universes?
  18.
  19. A2: The Multiple Universe system is in place to allow for more than one interpretation of a character (IE: two Spider-Man players) to be allowed. We recognize certain roles have a higher degree of popularity and thus are more desirable to play, however, we do want to keep some type of control for allowing canon RP to make sense. The two Universes allow for this, doubling up the roster and creating another story path for those people to play in. If your character is taken in Universe I and you want them in Universe II, it means that any canon event that is Universe I will not be open to you (unless with administrator approval. Don't hesitate to ask!) and instead you'll be asked to aid in creating a canon story for Universe II.
  20.
  21. There is no difference in the two Universes except in terms of the roster and current canon story– they are both equally important. For non-canon RP the two Universes are welcome to intermingle as the players desire.
  22. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  23. Q3: So I've decided. I'm going to be ___! How do I join?
  24.
  25. A3: Contact an Administrator or Moderator! This can be done via PM (if you see them on) or through RPC Mail if you do not see them around. They will get back to you as soon as they can, and go over everything with you. Just be aware that you will be asked if you've read over the room's rules, roster, as well as this sheet. Doing so helps greatly reduce the time it takes for recruitment and will have you spun up with what is expected in all aspects. If there are any questions you have, however, please don't hesitate to voice them. The same goes with concerns. We have an open-door policy and welcome any and all polite input or ideas and are always happy to answer questions.
  26. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  27. Q4: What is expected of those on the Roster? How do I update from Pending to Full Universe Member?
  28.
  29. A4: While we expect all those in our room to follow the rules and show good behavior, those on the Roster are also expected to show knowledge of their character as well as activity. There are some characters (IE: Captain America) whose raw number of comics are daunting and we don't expect you to have read everything about them. With that said, you're also more than welcome to pick an issue or an event of the character of your interest and roleplay as you read in decent numbers. In other words, the player can research and read a handful of Captain America's comics then write and participate in the canon roleplays as they go. That way, you won't feel the necessity to read all 8,198 issues in order to roleplay.
  30.
  31. Overall, what we would like to see is that you have a good grasp of your role and can portray their personality well enough. A good example of what we wouldn't want would be a Wolverine (Logan) who is completely insane and more worried about Chimichangas than anything else in life. We understand everyone has their interpretation of the role they play, and we don't expect comics to be followed perfectly, but we do want it to make sense for the character. If your character changes in the canon story (IE: mind control, body swap, etc) this will fit under 'makes sense for the character' as the story is the cause.
  32.
  33. Updating from Pending to Full Member depends completely on the person in the role. If you are active and remain so, are an upstanding member of the room, and show us you know your character well then it could take as little as two weeks. If you're struggling to get in activity, barely around, and/or trying to research your character, this could take much longer. Those who are PENDING aren't given a strict 'best by' date as we understand the stresses of real life and the time it may take to research your character. However, with that said, there will come a point where the Admin team reaches out to speak with you on your activity. We want to know what's going on, to see the ways we can help (such as providing research information, helping find a writing partner, starting a story, etc) get you going. We are willing to work with our players so long as we are kept in the loop on everything going on. Be aware - there is a limit to how long you'll be allowed to pend for a character.
  34.
  35. Once you have been upgraded to Full Member you will still be expected to keep up your activity and do well to portray your character. This is to help keep a situation from happening where a canon Captain America gets the role, starts a scene, and then just… Vanishes. We want the stories to flow as best as possible for everyone involved.
  36.
  37. Note: At this time members are only allowed 2 spots on the Roster. More spots will be a case-by-case basis and will require contacting an Admin and the member to have shown (and retain) high activity on their previous roles. It is also highly suggested you save your RPs via Pastebin or some other way that can be provided to the Administrators. While we try to be active, there are times we will miss activity going on, and this will help us greatly in making sure you are given credit for the effort you put in! Be sure to RPC mail us a note if you aren't sure if we were aware of your RP.
  38. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  39. Q5: Craaap! Real life has come up and I won't be around for awhile! But I'm enjoying the room and my role. What do I do?!
  40.
  41. A5: Contact an Administrator via PM or RPC Mail, and let us know what's going on! Roleplay is a hobby, and everyone understands that real life will always come first – our room is no exception to that. If you contact one of us and let us know what's going on, we'll take note of it and keep your spot secured until you are able to return. We don't want the room to become a chore or feel like it is something you -have- to do… That's not at all our expectation for activity. We want it to be something you can come enjoy when you have the time. Showing up once or twice a week and actively (not just sitting in the room) partaking in roleplay or attempting to start it will be noticed and held in high regard to your position.
  42.
  43. In a situation where you do not contact an Administrator to let us know you'll be away for a time, we will keep an eye on your activity ourselves. If we notice you have not been around for a great length of time, we will send out a RPC mail to your character(s) and try to contact you about your activity. If you respond to contact and let an Admin know what is going on, your spot will remain secure and note will be made of the situation at hand. We understand sometimes people get too busy or simply forget to give us a heads up – we'll always try to reach out to you about your activity at least twice before we start taking action.
  44.
  45. Note: Please be aware that we don't want this system abused. If you're constantly dealing with real life for six months straight and just aren't around except to 'update' the moderators on what is going on, there may be a chance we will ask you to step down. This depends on what is going on in your real life – we understand some things take a lot of time (IE: moving, family death, school, etc), and will not remove you for them. If the Administrators feel like there is always 'a reason' why you can't be on, or it is brought to our attention you are active in other rooms (remember, we're members in other rooms too!) you will be asked to step down until such a time you feel you can dedicate at least some time to the room.
  46. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  47. Q6: I really really want to Crossover my Anime/Game/DC/Other character, or make and Original Character (OC) – can I?
  48.
  49. A6: Short answer? Yes, you're welcome to make an OC or bring in a canon character from a Universe to scope out the room and perhaps even goof off and do some light RP. Long answer? At this time we're not accepting Crossovers or OC's onto the canon roster, so while you'll be allowed to come into the room (within reason, all room rules still apply) and goof off, you won't be allowed to partake in any canon RP and there is a chance you could be asked to step out or cease RP should your activity be an issue with other members of the room. IE: playing an original character that is the son of Mystique and Magneto and trying to force their characters to accept you as such, you're playing an OP character (non-Marvel canon or OC) aggressively and trying to start fights in the room knowing you cannot be beat, etc.
  50. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  51. Q7: The different Universes. (Comic, Cartoon, Movie, etc)
  52.
  53. A7: This… Is a tougher situation, as we understand some peoples' exposure to a character comes from only one source. We welcome all versions of a character, however, we do ask that you meet the same criteria as the other members who are joining in through the comic canon. Please refer to Q4 & A4 for the requirements to become canon/what is expected during PENDING. We want your character to be flexible and capable of roleplaying with other comic characters during the canon roleplays as well as you to retain information about your character that the movies or cartoons have not mentioned. However, you're free to pick your character's vibe, quirks, personality, histories, abilities, etc that are presented between the other universes and the comics.
  54.
  55. We also do ask that you don't pick a character just to play with their counterpart: IE you only interact with others from the movie verse and ignore comic-verse characters, or only favor a love interest and vanish any other time. We expect you to be willing to play with other members on the roster and partake in group RPs as well. We don't expect you to RP with everyone, but if the effort is only made for a selected person that can be a problem.
  56.
  57. We want those on our roster to be able to play with a wide variety of people and partake in the canon stories. If someone is noticed as only wanting to Rp with one verse (comic, movie, cartoon, etc) or one select person (or group of persons) it may become an issue and an Administrator may get involved to help right the situation.
  58. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  59. Q8: I don't have the money (or resources) to get my hands on any comics, but you expect me to have read some of them? That seems a bit much...
  60.
  61. A8: Not at all. If you need any help researching your character let the Administrators know! We are always glad to do our best to help as much as we can, including in doing research (sometimes a wiki will cover the basics) and getting you up to speed with the characters.
  62. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  63. Thank you for considering joining Marvel Comics Roster and taking the time to go over this guide. We hope it helps answer some questions and make the decision to join our Roster or to come be in the room much easier. We hope to see you partaking in our room soon!
