  1. +Forest`
  2. how can we ever stop the legal bribery of the congress by special interest groups when it is the congress themselves who has to decide to stop it?
  3. +Forest`
  4. lauchlin exactly what sort of mass movent?
  5. +Forest`
  6. no, no like the far right (selfish, greed-oriented, fake-puritanical)
  7. ← YourMom has quit (Quit:)
  8. +Forest`
  9. there's no reason we have to settle for any extreme

  11. Forest`: I don't believe, sans mass GOP indictment by Mueller, there will be any meaningful reforms.
  12. I think what will happen is we'll continue to stumble forward without any plan until a crisis occurs.
  13. +Forest`
  14. SnoopyCat will there be even if there are mass indictments? who is going to make these changes happen?

  16. A crisis is an event which cannot be controlled or manipulated by the current power structure.
  17. The history of society and technology tells me that while this current system is pretty adept at both controlling and manipulating perceptions/narratives, there remain coming disruptions that are uncontrollable.
  18. For example, the development of human-level AI.
  19. 30-35% of Americans are lost.

  21. Almost none of our dialogue in mainstream culture addresses this reality.
  22. We are still stuck with our 'universal' paradigm/narratives afforded to us by our humanist roots.
  23. 30-35% of the American population is entirely domesticated by other humans, breaking all assumptions for democracy.
  24. We don't currently have any powerful language or constructs in mainstream dialogue to manage 'humans domesticated by other humans'.
  25. Because the humanist roots of the West has an axiom that each individual is an island unto themself capable of free will.
  26. The manipulation of human minds through the internet/social media is an enormous problem that is not being taken seriously by our society.
  27. We need to move to a computational model of humanity.
  28. This will open up the capacity of entities to overrule/override self-determination.
  29. This sounds frightening to our humanist roots.
  30. The truth is we already live in a system where individuals are, daily, overruled/overridden in their 'self-determination'.
  31. But because it's outside the Overton window to discuss such things, it is unregulated.
  32. +Forest`
  33. i don't think robots are an immediate answer to the problem which does demand immeidate solutions
  34. +SnoopyCat
  35. Forest`: I haven't posited that.
  36. I have posited that all systems can only cope with events up to a threshold, at which point it because a crisis.
  37. We're waiting for that.
  38. We're close.
  39. We are in the vicinity of crisis, currently.
