- New bursts of gunfire cracked around him, muzzle flare jerking at the edge of a low stone wall bordering the crops. Choi threw himself into the closest gulley, blind-firing his pistol in the direction of the incoming rounds. The shots hummed over his head, droning like hornets, and he heard the rifles of his men open up, as bursts of fire zeroed in on the American’s position.
- Then silence.
- Choi scrambled out of his cover, angrily batting away a soldier who offered him a hand up. Laboring through the thick mud, he reached the source of the muzzle flashes and stopped dead.
- Where Choi had expected to find his quarry dead or dying there was only the Type 88 rifle he had taken from the soldier at the farmhouse, tied to a makeshift tripwire to make it fire on its own. Another trick!
