  32. The Kirigon Theory of Speed at Higher Levels
  33.
  34. Many people play Custom Game with Level 9999 pokemon. You've seen some of the common things people run on their teams: Wonder Guard pure electric-types with Air Balloons, Sturdy Shedinja, No Guard Deoxys-Speed, Magikarp with either Wonder Guard or Sturdy, and a shitload of Mega Rayquaza. But what many don't know is that speed is not like it is down at level 100. Up here, a Choice Scarfed Swift Swim Deoxys-Speed in Rain with a Tailwind and 6 Speed boosts could be outsped by a paralyzed Shuckle or Pyukumuku holding an Iron Ball.
  35. Basically, it doesn't matter how fast you are.
  36. At least, to an extent.
  37. A user named Kirigon (who is very good at Custom Game, and the only one who can consistently defeat me) enlisted my help in testing speed intervals.
  38. Our knowledge is not complete yet, but here is what we have found out so far.
  39. We have found 4 speed intervals, which we have named "S-T", "U-V", "W-X", and "Y-Z".
  40.
  41. S-T interval: Speeds ranging from 0 to 1808
  42. This interval encompasses the speeds that pokemon are normally at down in Level 100 games. The exact speed stat matters, down to a single point. Speed ties only occur when the speed stat is the same, and Trick Room works perfectly fine. Pokemon in this speed interval outspeed pokemon in the W-X interval, and are outsped by pokemon in the U-V and Y-Z* intervals.
  43.
  44. U-V interval: Speeds ranging from 1809 to 8191
  45. The fastest interval. Pokemon in this interval outspeed pokemon in the S-T, U-V, and Y-Z intervals, regardless of whether or not Trick Room is active. The exact speed stat still matters down to a single point.
  46.
  47. W-X interval: Speeds ranging from 8192 to 9999
  48. The slowest interval. Pokemon in this interval are normally outsped by pokemon in the S-T, U-V, and Y-Z intervals. However, if Trick Room is active, pokemon in this interval will outspeed pokemon in the S-T and Y-Z intervals. It is currently unknown whether or not the exact speed stat matters between two pokemon with different speeds within this interval.
  49.
  50. Y-Z interval: A speed of 10000+
  51. This interval is the interval where most common pokemon people use are, such as Deoxys-Speed, Chansey and Blissey, Mega Rayquaza, Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y, and so on. Two pokemon in this speed range will always speed tie with each other, no matter what their exact speed stat matters. As mentioned before, pokemon in this interval will outspeed pokemon in the S-T* and W-X intervals, and will be outsped by pokemon in the U-V interval.
  52.
  53. Based on what we've found so far, it is optimal to be in the U-V range if you want to outspeed everything barring moves in a higher priority bracket. Items such as an Iron Ball can help pokemon in Y-Z or W-X to be in U-V. It may also help to change the EVs, IVs, and Nature. Speed-lowering moves such as Curse and Ice Hammer may be good tools to have as well.
  54.
  55. [16:20:50] Kirigon: Thanks to everyone who helps and helped me <3
  56.
  57.
  58. *Edit: A test has revealed that a pokemon with 1808 speed will speed tie with a pokemon with 10000 speed. Further testing must commence in order to find out how much of the S-T interval speed ties with how much of the Y-Z interval.
