  1. >Day Goodbye in Equestria.
  2. >You can only watch in despair as Hope sobs into Manny's chest next to the trains platform.
  3. >Lyra places her hoof in your hand, knowing the feeling you are going through.
  4. >”A-And you better write back when you get my letter, okay?”
  5. >Hope is still babbling as Manny nods.
  6. >”I will Hope...”
  7. >”Promise!”
  8. >The Minotaur is silent, causing your daughter to cry harder.
  9. >You look to his mother, who is in a similar state.
  10. >His father however...
  11. >The bastard is looking at your daughter with such contempt.
  12. >”Manfred! Hurry up, we're going to be late.”
  13. >Both his son and wife's faces give that same begging look.
  14. >'Just a little longer.'
  15. >Bastard.
  16. >Betty had told you the whole story.
  17. >It turns out her husband had only moved to Canterlot since it would help his brother's business, and he did so grudgingly.
  18. >Manny was just a toddler then, no older than fourteen months she said.
  19. >He was spoiled, in the sense that Canterlot protected protected him from most of the harsh childhood experiences most Minotaur go through.
  20. >Betty loved Canterlot since it gave her son a chance to grow up in peace.
  21. >The moment Von Karma's brother wrote saying they could relocate to a big city in Minotaur territory though...
  22. >He didn't think twice to uproot his family and get away from the species he loathed so silently.
  23. >What monster does something so selfish to a woman he claims to love and his own son?
  24. >You wish there was something, anything you could do to help everyone being hurt by this.
  25. >... But the law is on his side.
  26. >If Betty divorces him, he would get custody of Manfred and be free to cut her out of his life.
  27. >This garbage in front of you has the final say in this poor boy's life.
  28. >Hope's crying grows as Manny lets go of her, walking on to the train next to his father.
  29. >”No!”
  30. >You grab hold of her arm as she tries to run on with.
  31. >”Dad, please! I don't want Manny to go!”
  32. >Betty places her hands on her son's shoulders, rubbing them as her tears fall freely.
  33. >”I'm sorry Hope! We'll always remember you deary, I promise!”
  34. >Hope tries to pull harder.
  35. >You pull back, bringing her in for a hug.
  36. >”Please! Don't go, please?!”
  37. >She wraps her arms around you, gripping into your shirt as she stains it with tears.
  38. >Holding tight, you bear her screams as the doors to the train slam shut.
  39. >She tugs and tugs, trying to break free from your grasp.
  40. >Lyra comes behind you, wrapping herself hooves around Hope's neck in a mother's embrace.
  41. >Hope's sobs continue as the wheels turn, taking her best friend away from her.
  42. >You watch in to the window as the chubby Minotaur breaks free from his mother's hold, running up to the window to get one last look at his friend.
  43. >He may not understand what you are about to do.
  44. >But it does not stop you from nodding and mouthing a 'thank you' to the boy who brought such happiness to your baby girl's life.
  45. >He didn't see her as pony or human, and certainly didn't treat her differently through unintentional or intentional means.
  46. >He saw her as Hope.
  47. >His friend.
  48.
  49.
  50. >Day Fatherly love in Equestria.
  51. >Walking into the house, you drop your briefcase and look for Lyra.
  52. >She is in the kitchen, drinking a cup of coffee.
  53. “How was Hope?”
  54. >Your wife sighs, shaking her head.
  55. >”She still hasn't left her room... she... she started crying last time I knocked, asking if you weren't coming back either.”
  56. >You run your hand down your face, sighing as you do.
  57. >The girl is heartbroken.
  58. >A person she saw as a brother was ripped from her life.
  59. >No warning.
  60. >If only to let the children enjoy a few more blissful moments together.
  61. >You walk over and kiss your wife's forehead, avoiding her horn.
  62. “I'll go talk to her.”
  63. >She nods, lip trembling as she looks down to her cup.
  64. >Stepping up the stairs, the house is filled with an unsettling silence.
  65. >You stop in front of Hope's doors.
  66. “Hope?”
  67. >Knocking on the door, you receive no response.
  68. “Hope, daddy's here if you want to talk...”
  69. >You wait outside the door for any sign of movement.
  70. >Nothing...
  71. “Please, Hope... let me in?”
  72. >After a moment, you hear the sound of her bed squeak.
  73. >Hoofsteps make their way slowly to the door and you hear her lock change gears.
  74. >Opening the door, you are immediately met with a hug from your daughter.
  75. >She sniffles, head buried into your stomach.
  76. >One look... one look at how she is breaks your heart.
  77. >Eyes red and poofy, tears no longer able to fall.
  78. >Her lip trembles as she hics ever now and again.
  79. >Hair is a mess, lacking her signature clips.
  80. >You lift her chin and look her in the eyes.
  81. “Hope... I know this is hard, losing Manny.”
  82. >It turns out you were wrong, as fresh tears start to form.
  83. “It may not sound calming now... but you still have him.”
  84. >Your words settle the girls tears, keeping them from falling.
  85. >She is still in a despair filled state though.
  86. >Taking a knee, you look deep into her eyes.
  87. “Here...”
  88. >You place a finger above her heart.
  89. >She clenches your hand and holds it as she presses her body against yours.
  90. >”I-I-I don't want him to just be here though... I want him to be back.”
  91. >You place your free hand on the back of her head.
  92. “I know... I know...”
  93. >She holds you like this.
  94. >Tears stopped, but the pain remains.
