- >"Hey! You two!"
- >What could you have possibly gotten into trouble for this time?
- >You and Scootaloo perform a synchronised pivot, and both end up facing the burly stallion.
- "What?"
- >"Your little frog contraption destroyed one of the trains."
- >You sigh and slump your shoulders.
- "I suppose I'll have to fix this?"
- >"No, that won't be necessary. You'll simply have to pay for-"
- >Yeah, right. As though you have money.
- >You push past the stallion and head for the train yard.
- >Upon arriving at the train yard, you pick a train at random and take a look at it.
- >There's a hole where it's boiler should be, and the wheels aren't connected to anything except the axles.
- >Should be easy enough to fix.
- >You stare at the train for a while longer.
- >Mental drafts for all sorts of improvements skip about your head, before settling on one.
- "Scootaloo, fetch me some tools. And that jetpack."
- >"You got it!"
- >She dumps the jetpack at your feet, and you start pulling it apart.
- >Once it's been reduced to it's important parts, you start to build the train's new and improved engine.
- >This needs to go here, this other bit could be cut short...
- >Scootaloo arrives with some tools, and you start putting the engine together in earnest.
- >An hour or so of furious working later, and you have an engine.
- >Well, almost an engine.
- >Your design called for more lead plating, to keep the radiation under wraps, but oh well.
- >It looks like a tank had a head on collision with about fifty Tesla coils while travelling at the speed of sound, but it'll probably work.
- >You get Scootaloo to help you lift it into the place the boiler should be.
- >You fish around in your pocket for a bit, before finding a couple AA batteries.
- >Some of the few pieces of earth technology to make the trip here with you.
- >You slot them into the engine, and flick the switch.
- >The machine hums as it turns on, and an eerie glow starts to emanate from it's internals.
- >You hop out of the train, and beckon somepony over.
- >"What now?"
- "I've fixed this train."
- >He scoffs.
- >"In an hour? Yeah, right."
- >You frown at him, and hop into the train.
- >He doesn't think this train works, you'll have to show him!
- >You push Scootaloo towards the engine, and head towards the front of the train.
- "Scootaloo. Plot a course for Canterlot."
- >"Sure thing, Anonymous!"
- >She fiddles about with the engine for a bit before giving it a firm kick.
- >It surges to life, with lightning sparking through it and a loud grinding noise starting up.
- >A few seconds later, and the train suddenly flies down the tracks at about a thousand miles an hour.
- >For half a minute, you brace against the tremendous forces threatening to tear the train apart.
- >Then the train stops, as quickly as it started.
- >You take a look outside the train.
- >Elegant, Russian inspired architecture, lots of whites and golds, and a gaggle of unicorns gawking at the train.
- >Must be in Canterlot!
- "Yeah! We did it!"
- >"Yeah!"
- >You wave and smile to the gathering crowd, before you see what looks like the local law enforcement start to show up.
- >You're pretty sure that you've broken at least one law by doing this.
- "Well, Scoots, that's our cue to leave! Put this thing in reverse!"
- >"Can do, Anonymous!"
- >She fiddles with the engine some more, and kicks it again.
- >Once more, the engine rumbles to life, with lightning and noise.
- >Then the outside world turns into a blur of color for thirty seconds.
- >And you stop back in Ponyville.
- >You step out of the train, and pat the slack jawed stallion on the shoulder.
- "It works."
- >You start to walk away as the stallion heads for the train.
- >"How in blazes do you work this thing?"
- >Guess you have to do everything around here.
- >You turn on the spot and barge back into the train.
- >Whistling for Rivets, you set about making some handy-dandy pedals.
- >You tear a panel off the side of the train for scrap metal, and Scootaloo starts rearranging the insides of the machine.
- >When Rivets arrives, you tell him to fetch the paint.
- >"Rivet, rivet!"
- >What a great frog.
- >You remove some of the engine's safety mechanisms out, and assemble a plasma cutter out of them.
- >One of the AA batteries should be enough to power it.
- >You fish one of the batteries out of the engine. It's surprisingly warm.
- >Regardless, you slot it into the plasma cutter, and it sparks to life.
- >You hand the plasma cutter to Scootaloo and she starts cutting pedals out of the sheet metal.
- >At about that time, Rivets returns with the paint.
- >And only the paint.
- >Whatever, finger painting it is then.
- >Scootaloo finishes cutting out the pedals, and disassembles the plasma cutter while you paint them.
- >Each one gets a yellow paint job, and is then labelled appropriately in red.
- >Each pedal is labelled thusly;
- >FAST
- >FASTER
- >SLOW
- >STOP
- >And the left over pedals get the names of nearby towns and cities painted on.
- >Canterlot, Dodge Junction and the like.
- >You pick up the parts of the disassembled plasma cutter, and rebuild it into an arc welder.
- >You weld the pedals onto appropriate parts of the machinery, and upon completion step back and admire your handiwork.
- >It looks like some expensive piece of military hardware collided at high speeds with some sort of electrical device, and then someone welded a bunch of yellow pedals to it.
- >Perfect!
- >You disassemble the arc welder, and retrieve it's battery.
- >After slotting the battery back in the engine, you dust off your hands and walk away.
- >Another job well done.
