  1. >"Hey! You two!"
  2. >What could you have possibly gotten into trouble for this time?
  3. >You and Scootaloo perform a synchronised pivot, and both end up facing the burly stallion.
  4. "What?"
  5. >"Your little frog contraption destroyed one of the trains."
  6. >You sigh and slump your shoulders.
  7. "I suppose I'll have to fix this?"
  8. >"No, that won't be necessary. You'll simply have to pay for-"
  9. >Yeah, right. As though you have money.
  10. >You push past the stallion and head for the train yard.
  11.
  12. >Upon arriving at the train yard, you pick a train at random and take a look at it.
  13. >There's a hole where it's boiler should be, and the wheels aren't connected to anything except the axles.
  14. >Should be easy enough to fix.
  15. >You stare at the train for a while longer.
  16. >Mental drafts for all sorts of improvements skip about your head, before settling on one.
  17. "Scootaloo, fetch me some tools. And that jetpack."
  18. >"You got it!"
  19. >She dumps the jetpack at your feet, and you start pulling it apart.
  20. >Once it's been reduced to it's important parts, you start to build the train's new and improved engine.
  21. >This needs to go here, this other bit could be cut short...
  22. >Scootaloo arrives with some tools, and you start putting the engine together in earnest.
  23. >An hour or so of furious working later, and you have an engine.
  24. >Well, almost an engine.
  25. >Your design called for more lead plating, to keep the radiation under wraps, but oh well.
  26. >It looks like a tank had a head on collision with about fifty Tesla coils while travelling at the speed of sound, but it'll probably work.
  27. >You get Scootaloo to help you lift it into the place the boiler should be.
  28. >You fish around in your pocket for a bit, before finding a couple AA batteries.
  29. >Some of the few pieces of earth technology to make the trip here with you.
  30. >You slot them into the engine, and flick the switch.
  31. >The machine hums as it turns on, and an eerie glow starts to emanate from it's internals.
  32. >You hop out of the train, and beckon somepony over.
  33. >"What now?"
  34. "I've fixed this train."
  35. >He scoffs.
  36. >"In an hour? Yeah, right."
  37. >You frown at him, and hop into the train.
  38. >He doesn't think this train works, you'll have to show him!
  39. >You push Scootaloo towards the engine, and head towards the front of the train.
  40. "Scootaloo. Plot a course for Canterlot."
  41. >"Sure thing, Anonymous!"
  42. >She fiddles about with the engine for a bit before giving it a firm kick.
  43. >It surges to life, with lightning sparking through it and a loud grinding noise starting up.
  44. >A few seconds later, and the train suddenly flies down the tracks at about a thousand miles an hour.
  45. >For half a minute, you brace against the tremendous forces threatening to tear the train apart.
  46. >Then the train stops, as quickly as it started.
  47. >You take a look outside the train.
  48. >Elegant, Russian inspired architecture, lots of whites and golds, and a gaggle of unicorns gawking at the train.
  49. >Must be in Canterlot!
  50. "Yeah! We did it!"
  51. >"Yeah!"
  52. >You wave and smile to the gathering crowd, before you see what looks like the local law enforcement start to show up.
  53. >You're pretty sure that you've broken at least one law by doing this.
  54. "Well, Scoots, that's our cue to leave! Put this thing in reverse!"
  55. >"Can do, Anonymous!"
  56. >She fiddles with the engine some more, and kicks it again.
  57. >Once more, the engine rumbles to life, with lightning and noise.
  58. >Then the outside world turns into a blur of color for thirty seconds.
  59. >And you stop back in Ponyville.
  60. >You step out of the train, and pat the slack jawed stallion on the shoulder.
  61. "It works."
  62. >You start to walk away as the stallion heads for the train.
  63. >"How in blazes do you work this thing?"
  64. >Guess you have to do everything around here.
  65. >You turn on the spot and barge back into the train.
  66. >Whistling for Rivets, you set about making some handy-dandy pedals.
  67. >You tear a panel off the side of the train for scrap metal, and Scootaloo starts rearranging the insides of the machine.
  68. >When Rivets arrives, you tell him to fetch the paint.
  69. >"Rivet, rivet!"
  70. >What a great frog.
  71. >You remove some of the engine's safety mechanisms out, and assemble a plasma cutter out of them.
  72. >One of the AA batteries should be enough to power it.
  73. >You fish one of the batteries out of the engine. It's surprisingly warm.
  74. >Regardless, you slot it into the plasma cutter, and it sparks to life.
  75. >You hand the plasma cutter to Scootaloo and she starts cutting pedals out of the sheet metal.
  76. >At about that time, Rivets returns with the paint.
  77. >And only the paint.
  78. >Whatever, finger painting it is then.
  79. >Scootaloo finishes cutting out the pedals, and disassembles the plasma cutter while you paint them.
  80. >Each one gets a yellow paint job, and is then labelled appropriately in red.
  81. >Each pedal is labelled thusly;
  82. >FAST
  83. >FASTER
  84. >SLOW
  85. >STOP
  86. >And the left over pedals get the names of nearby towns and cities painted on.
  87. >Canterlot, Dodge Junction and the like.
  88. >You pick up the parts of the disassembled plasma cutter, and rebuild it into an arc welder.
  89. >You weld the pedals onto appropriate parts of the machinery, and upon completion step back and admire your handiwork.
  90. >It looks like some expensive piece of military hardware collided at high speeds with some sort of electrical device, and then someone welded a bunch of yellow pedals to it.
  91. >Perfect!
  92. >You disassemble the arc welder, and retrieve it's battery.
  93. >After slotting the battery back in the engine, you dust off your hands and walk away.
  94. >Another job well done.
