  1. The Lucid One is a Celestial Entity coalesced from the collective dreams of thousands of mortals. Initially existing only in the grand city of Karathus, the Lucid One gestated from the shared dreams of a coalition of powerful dream mages, where it slowly spread throughout the dreams of the city, and later came to be in the dreams of those who visited the city as well. Its nature was, at first, poorly understood; it seemed a permanent presence burned into the fabric of every dream, but one that was hard to comprehend and most could only describe as a silhouette or imprint of something non-specific.
  2.
  3. These dream mages exalted the power of dreams; dreams were an escape from all law and order, a place where mortal will was at its purest and most unhindered, contained only by the law of the Architect. Dreams represented, to them, the most undiluted and true form of willpower, and as the Lucid One's quiet, looming figure was seen as an avatar for dreams themselves, so too did these traits extend to it.
  4.
  5. Their religion quickly spread throughout Karathus, whose dreams all began to coalesce, their once well-defined boundries mingling and soon merging entirely as they together dreamed of a more idyllic and beautiful world, with the Lucid One at its helm.
  6.
  7. To the people of Karathus, the Lucid One was a gentle watcher, a dutiful guardian to the purity of their dreams. It warded off nightmares and gave the gift of lucid dreaming to each of its followers, and allowed them to indulge in the utopia it had built. It was the collective power of the dreams of an entire city, given form. In time, however, the dream mages began to covet the power which the Lucid One represented, and desired to drag it into the real world... and the Lucid One did not disagree.
  8.
  9. The perfect will of the people, the Dreams themselves, had been rendered toothless and meaningless in the waking world by the Architect's light. Objects pulled from dreams would crumble to dust at the first hint of sunlight, and creatures who stepped out from them would only ever be temporary. The Lucid One was not powerful enough to change this, not yet. The strength of a mortal's soul in Var Sarlir was important, but its greatest power was withheld from them, doled out to them only in the safety of dreams.
  10.
  11. In time, the Lucid One's religion spread far and wide; a whole world began to surface in the dreams of its thousands of followers, of which the Lucid One remained steadfast guardian and facilitator. It wove so neatly such comprehensible reality from the unfiltered and oft chaotic will of its followers.
  12.
  13. And then, one day, the last surviving remnant of the first prophets had lived long enough to watch as an inky black tendril reached from beyond and laid a glimmering, otherworldly blade atop an altar, pulled from the dream... and solid in the sunlight.
  14.
  15. The Lucid One is now a god of great power. It has a following of about 50,000 individuals, referred to as the Lucid or the Lucid Many, whose dreams all together form the plane of the Waking Star, a utopian land that serves both as a nightly refuge for its devout and as an afterlife. It is seen to represent creativity and chaos, and the superiority and dominance of sapient will over the rules and limitations of reality. The main benefit it offers to its followers is access to the Waking Star, as well as consistently restful, peaceful sleep. It offers gifts to its most powerful champions and most devoted priests, dragging dream objects into the mortal world and tweaking the Cosmic Clockwork with which it is deeply intertwined such that these objects become truly real.
  16.
  17. However, it is rarely considered a True God; scholars continue to debate over the nature of the Lucid One. Although born from the same will as all other gods, the Lucid One stands in stark violation of the Architect's rules; it is the only god capable of Perfect Reincarnation, the process of returning a soul to life without 'resetting' it, and its capability to make dream objects 'real' is a serious violation as well. It is often considered, thus, to be a Celestial Entity, for it exists outside of the Architect's system, dreamed into being on the margins of reality, unlike all other gods.
  18.
  19. Its form is still inconsistent. It rarely manifests on the mortal plane, and when it does, it usually does so only as a voice or small, dark tendrils. Its true form is incomprehensible, nestled securely in the subconsciousness of its many followers, existing deep beneath the surface of its utopia of the Waking Star. Attempts have been made to bring it, itself, into the mortal plane; but even it rejects these attempts, for fear that its unfathomable form would place too much strain on the ordered reality of the mortal plane.
  20.
  21. In simple terms, the Lucid One's domain represents the power of mortal will and creativity expressed most prominently through dreams, and ultimately the overcoming of boundaries, up to and including those set by the Architect, in the way of actualizing one's will. It is especially prominently worshiped among spiritualists, and practically all dream mages. As well, it is often used as an anti-fascist symbol, for the idea that anyone could control and dominate the collective will of the people would be laughable to its devoted.
  22.
  23. Its followers are persecuted by and often at war with other factions, particularly the Lantern-Bearers and other Architect-based factions.
