  1. The story goes the dragon ruled over his mountain and pile of stolen treasures with great ferocity. He burned, plundered, and slaughtered without a care for no life but his own. Talon, fang, and fire rended the land asunder until not a single piece of cooper remained and all but the foolish or brave fled. Farms were left scorched, and once mighty cities became charred ruins. The king cried for help from all the other kingdoms.

  3. Knights came from far and wide wielding silver and golden swords of dragon slaying to test their mettle and slay the beast, but one by one they were left as nothing but burnt crisps of armor. When the king thought all was lost, a stout dwarf walked into his great hall seeing not a single knight stood anymore. The dwarf shouted "King! I come here to lend a dwarf's hand to your small problem!", to which the king replied "Small problem? The dragon has split my kingdom in two and left nothing but ash!". The dwarf then said "Seems you have no more guards, knights, or even people. The dragon has gotten them or they've fled this charred land. The mistake you made is you sought a knight's aid rather than a hardy dwarf. Let me slay this dragon for you and your kingdom will be restored.", and the king said back "Master dwarf, if you do this what is it you ask in return? I have no gold, no kingdom." but the dwarf's only response was "I don't need payment for such a simple task, this is easier than working my forge. Give me a day and your problem will be gone, on my honor as a dwarf." then the dwarf left the king's hall.

  5. The dwarf traveled as fast and far as he could, every step carrying him not less than 10 miles, and he got all the way to the Skyflame Mountain just that very noon. The dwarf had nothing with him but the dwarf-steel armor he forged his very self, and his fists like iron. The dwarf stood at the bottom of the mountain and let out such a great bellow it could be heard all the way across the sea to Endal, "Dragon! I come here to challenge you. Come out of your mountain and face me or hide like a coward and be known as one!". The great beast was no coward, for he rose from the searing earth-blood like a soaring pheonix without hesitation. The dragon landed before the dwarf, annoyed that his dinner was interrupted, "Dwarf! You dare challenge me!" and the dragon laughed and laughed. The dwarf resounded, "That I do, you winged beast! I'll not fall easy like the knights!" then the dragon's belly glowed bright as hot steel and he spewed flames hotter than any dwarf's forge. The dragon had singed the dwarf's beard which infuriated him, so he climbed onto the dragon and wrestled him with great might until the dragon flew high into the sky. The dragon and dwarf wrestled in the sky long into the afternoon until finally the dwarf wrestled the dragon to the ground, nearly tearing the wings from his body. They fell from the sky with such might it cracked the earth open, creating the great Deepcrest Chasm that can be seen today as proof. The dragon was helpless in the dwarf's grip as he begged for his life. The honorable dwarf allowed the dragon to live, and instead dragged him back to his mountain where he tossed him into a cave and closed it with a boulder larger than this very tavern to imprison him for an eternity.

  7. Dusting himself off, the dwarf left without another word to never be seen again but that didn't stop the bards who named him Dragonsbane and sung his song for many centuries until history forgot him.
