Sunflowers

In the world of the afterlife, there exists an exquisite field of flowers among the hellish wastes. To most, it is a symbol of hope for the next life, or a tormenting reminder of what is lost.

These people have never been anywhere near these flowers.

All those who have gone near those flowers know their horrid secret, but are never able to speak of it again.

There is a simple explanation for this, and that is thus:

As soon as you get close enough to the flowers to hear their screams, you are already planting roots.

And so the ever-expanding field of flowers continues to grow, shedding yet more hope that there is another life besides judgment... And proving that there is, in a way.
