- --------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Basic Info
- - There are 9 playable characters, two of whom are mutually exclusive
- (Faize and Arumat). On your first playthrough, Faize will always be
- replaced by Arumat, but on subsequent ones, you'll get a simple choice
- between the two, although that choice doesn't affect story events.
- - Of the 9 PCs, 3 are melee fighters (Edge, Meracle, Arumat), 2 are
- (primarily) ranged fighters (Reimi, Bacchus), and 4 are mages (Faize,
- Lymle, Myuria, Sarah). 3 of those mages have healing spells (all except
- Faize).
- - As is typical in an action game, you need to get familiar with enemy
- behavior and your own abilities in order to excel in battle, not that
- it's strictly necessary for your survival in the case of SO4. The game
- is simpler and more forgiving than the previous installment, at least
- outside of the bosses. If MP isn't a concern, you could easily close
- your eyes, mash the shoulder buttons, and still get fine results.
- - There's only one normal attack button, and two other buttons are used
- to execute waza (the shoulder buttons by default). Normal attacks can
- vary depending on the context (such as whether you're in Short Range or
- Long Range of the target) and whether you're tilting the analog stick in
- the enemy's direction. Some normal attacks can be chained.
- - You'll need to mind your frames when using normal attacks. Well, maybe
- not exact frame counts, but you should try to get a general sense of your
- time advantage/disadvantage. Attacking the enemy without an advantage is
- not advisable, as you can end up getting interrupted or just whiffing.
- Furthermore, without knockdown or float, normal attacks usually leave you
- at a frame disadvantage, with the fastest enemies able to punish you as
- a result. Learning how to chain into Edge's uppercut floater is vital.
- - If getting blocked isn't a concern, you can simply attack a lot of
- enemies head on. Your basic, normal attack should be fast enough to beat
- them. If not or you need to avoid blocks, resort to whiff-punish, distract-
- punish, or the unique Blindside maneuver. Trying to distract-punish enemies
- that are moving can result in whiffing, though, as your attacks aren't as
- fast as they were in SO3, and enemies generally move a little faster. As
- such, you may need to wait until they stop to attack.
- - Enemies aren't much of a threat in a one-on-one scenario, but a lot of
- the times, you're facing a bit of a crowd. Trying to pick off one enemy
- out of a tight group of three without getting hit in the process is fairly
- difficult, but not impossible, as Edge's basic 3-hit combo *can* hit any
- enemies around him, even if the range is limited. You could also just bide
- your time while Reimi takes shots at them (unless she's getting distract-
- punished herself). Unless you're playing on a higher difficulty level, you
- don't need to stress it all that much. Once you gain access to healing
- spells (after the first planet/dungeon), you can afford more mistakes.
- - If you're controlling Reimi or Bacchus, there's hardly any need for
- finesse. You can just fire away.
- - If you'd rather use a melee fighter, then your choices are rather slim.
- You're stuck with Edge for the first half of the game or so, which isn't
- that bad, since he has the best selection of normal attacks of all the
- fighters. Even so, after hundreds of battles, you might start to feel a
- little saturated.
- - As usual, waza can be far more effective than normal attacks, but you
- probably won't be able to rely on it much earlier in the game due to the
- lack of innate post-battle recovery. Once you reach Roak (almost immediately
- after you get your second melee fighter, Meracle), you can create an MP
- regenerating accessory, thus enabling heavier use of waza. With enough
- skill and care, you *can* maintain an MP regenerating Bonus Board, but
- that's not likely to be the case with new players. The regen from the
- accessory is only 2% every 12 seconds, but it does make it easier to get
- pink tiles for the Bonus Board and, thus, facilitate further regeneration.
- After Roak, you can use Synthesis to stack the accessory's effect.
- - Popping Blackberries works up until you run out of Blackberries, and
- your supply won't last for long if you try to keep all four characters
- in the green. Seeing a mage like Faize turned into an underwhelming melee
- fighter is disappointing to say the least, but unless you can maintain a
- pink Bonus Board, you'll just have to accept it. You can switch him out
- once Bacchus joins in the Cardianon Mothership.
- - Another MP recovery option is using a Vile Goop item, which grants
- you the Symbolic Weapon effect for 60s, which adds an MP draining effect
- to your normal attacks. You can buy these on Lemuris and Roak, and some
- enemies drop them. Edge also learns it as a spell at Lv46, which is a bit
- late, but it's still an option.
- - Once you reach Roak, you can also buy the Convert skill that gradually
- converts some HP into MP. Five characters can learn it: Edge, Bacchus,
- Arumat, Faize, and Myuria.
- - Lymle will be your resident healer for at least half of the main game.
- She has offensive magic as well, but letting her waste all her MP on
- mediocre damage probably isn't the best idea.
- - Magic is a better source of damage than it was in SO3, but it's still
- not great, and nearly all magic is once again elemental. Even if MP isn't
- a concern, I still wouldn't recommend it.
- - Farming some Potent Magic Seeds from Bizarre Fruits to increase max
- MP (by 100 each) is a great way to increase your battle effectiveness,
- especially when combined with MP regeneration. You'll want to farm a
- bunch of Bizarre Fruit on Lemuris before you leave the planet. I use
- the seeds on Meracle myself.
- - You can find a recovery point in most dungeons, although the dungeons
- tend to be quite large.
- - You have 6 slots for hissatsuwaza (3 for each button) and 2 slots for
- support skills. There's no Short Range / Long Range split for the waza
- slots. By default, you can use 2 waza slots. To get more, you have to
- learn the Combo Chains (aka Link Combo) skill (4 slots at Lv1, 6 at Lv6).
- - Waza setup involves CP once again. Each skill has a certain CP value,
- and the combined CP of all set skills can't exceed the character's CP.
- Characters start with 10 CP and gain 1 CP every 5 levels starting from
- Lv10 and up to Lv50, giving one a total of 19 CP.
- - If you spend 50+ hours farming rare drops (and getting the character's
- other BTs), you can increase a single character's CP by 3, to reach a
- total of 22. Worth it? Uh... No.
- - With a few exceptions, characters can only learn support skills from
- using skill books, which can be bought in stores and found on the field.
- - Skills are leveled up by using SP rather than by building up proficiency
- through use. Leveling it up also increases the MP cost, so you might want
- to hold back on boosting your waza until you have more MP. Many skills
- don't get much of a damage increase.
- - Chaining waza, of course, returns. You can use each set waza once in a
- given chain. However, damage multipliers are not present until the character
- has learned the Combo Chains support skill, and chaining into a skill from
- a normal attack doesn't affect the multiplier. Furthermore, the multipliers
- are very modest compared to SO3, although it does make sense given how much
- easier (and less exciting) it is to pull off a chain.
- - Chaining waza requires you to press one of the waza buttons during the
- actual cancel window. You can't just hold down the button or buffer it.
- - The AI's chaining ability leaves much to be desired. It's possible to
- rapidly switch between characters and manually compensate, but it's a bit
- too much for your average player.
- - The chain multipliers increase as you level up the skill. Lv10:
- 1 2 3 4 5 6
- 1,0 1,6 1,8 2,0 2,4 2,8
- - SP (Skill Points) is used to power up battle skills, support skills,
- and IC skills. There are two types of SP in SO4: Party SP and Character
- SP. Character SP is just classic SP and is gained from leveling up. Party
- SP, on the other hand, is a shared SP pool that any character can draw
- from. It's also used when discovering new recipes in IC. You gain Party
- SP (and some Exp) by...
- × opening containers.
- × obtaining items through the field skills Harvesting and Mining.
- × completing side quests.
- × using a Disintegration Ring (on something other than a chest).
- × finishing battles when you have green tiles on your Bonus Board.
- - Similar to before, a character has to be within a certain range before
- they can use an attack, although this time there are no attacks that would
- require the character to back away from the enemy. The range restriction
- is completely ignored when using waza in a chain, including when starting
- with a normal attack.
- - Even offensive magic has range restrictions this time.
- - While moving to set range, you can cancel the attack by doing a sidestep.
- - SO4 features rather simple hitstun mechanics, where a subject will
- always experience hitstun when hit unless...
- × damage = 0.
- × the subject has No Guard and hasn't been blindsided.
- × the subject is in Rush Mode and hasn't been blindsided.
- - Flinching time is about 0,9s for each character.
- - Like before, subjects can be floated and knocked down. When a subject
- hits the ground, they bounce for a while before entering knockdown state,
- where they are (largely) invincible. Compared to SO3, the bounce period
- is longer, giving you more time to hit the enemy (and possibly re-float
- them) before they enter knockdown state. There are also attacks that
- ignore knockdown invincibility.
- - Hitting a floated enemy with an attack with regular hitstun won't cancel
- the knockdown.
- - The support skill No Guard returns, but this time it's not tied to
- current HP but rather max HP, making it feel kind of cheap, but whatever.
- It'll certainly come in handy. It costs 3 CP, and the threshold is 10%
- mHP at Lv10. It affects both physical and magical damage. The No Guard
- granted by Rush Mode is a little different and has no damage threshold.
- - An enemy's non-Rush No Guard doesn't have a damage threshold either,
- but sometimes you can break through it even without blindsiding. Some
- enemies have No Guard while attacking, but it doesn't cover the entire
- animation of an attack.
- - Impact freeze returns, meaning time freezes for a brief fraction of a
- second during battle when you land or receive hits with your controlled
- character. It's even worse this time, since it occurs even without any
- hitstun.
- - SO4's primary anti-stunlocking element is the Rush Mode. Each subject
- has a Rush count that ranges between 0 and 100. It mainly increases from
- landing hits and receiving hits, and it starts to decrease at a rate of 1
- per 0,5s after 3,5s if no increment occurs. When the figure is 100, the
- subject can enter Rush Mode, which grants the following benefits:
- × Immune to hitstun (unless Blindsided)
- × Increased movement speed and attacking speed (1,2x)
- × (Increased) chance to score critical hits
- × Some additional bonuses when using Beat B
- - You can increase the Rush count of your controlled character by pressing
- and holding the Rush charge button. This gives you at most 20 Rush over
- the course of 4s (30 Rush with Beat B). Charging for longer than 4s results
- in your character getting stunned. AI-controlled characters never use it.
- - A subject gains 30 Rush whenever an ally dies.
- - Enemies and AI-controlled characters enter Rush Mode as soon as it's
- available. To enter Rush Mode with your controlled character, you need
- to press the Rush Mode button.
- - When available, Rush Mode can be activated during any action, even when
- getting attacked or knocked down. If you activate it when you're on neutral,
- your character emotes briefly, which roots you in place. Not that big a
- deal, but it would be preferable to avoid it.
- - The Rush count starts decreasing at a rate of 10 per second upon Rush
- Mode activation, and the subject is taken out of Rush Mode once the count
- reaches 0. By default, you can't gain Rush during Rush Mode, but you can
- enable this by using max Lv Beat Mode B. A few particularly tough enemies
- can gain Rush during Rush Mode as well.
- - Rush Moding enemies can be quite a nuisance. Blindside them if you can
- (and if you think other characters won't interfere with the process), but
- if you don't have the chance, just keep avoiding the enemy and wait it out.
- - Rush Combo: When you go into Rush Mode, be careful not to accidentally
- trigger a Rush Combo. You initiate a Rush Combo if you press any waza
- button immediately after entering Rush Mode.
- - During a Rush Combo, time freezes, and you can take some potshots at
- the target by mashing the button indicated on-screen. Not all waza can
- be used in a Rush Combo.
- - Sidestepping returns in varying forms and is performed be tilting the
- analog stick while holding down the Rush charge button. However, it doesn't
- grant any kind of invincibility (Are you f*cking kidding me?). Then again,
- if it did, you wouldn't get punished for a failed Blindside attempt as
- easily. But they could've made it so the i-frames only occur when side-
- stepping quickly without any charging. Oh, well.
- - Without sidestep invincibility, it's much easier to get stunlocked or
- end up in a knockdown loop, where the enemy knocks you down again right
- after you get up. Unless another character intervenes, you'll have to use
- either Rush or Blindside pre-charge to get out.
- - The following characters can move at least a little faster by sidestepping:
- Bacchus, Lymle, Arumat.
- - Another (somewhat) major element of the battle system is the Blindside
- mechanic that can only ever be utilized by the controlled character. To
- pull it off, you need to hold down the Rush charge button for 1 second and
- then tilt the analog stick when the enemy you're targeting is targeting
- and facing you in Short Range. Blindsiding an enemy inflicts a special
- type of stun that lasts ~1-3 seconds depending on the enemy. Hitting the
- enemy while they're stunned like this boosts the attacker's critical hit
- rate to 100%, and the resulting critical hits ignore No Guard. Hitting the
- enemy continuously or floating them prolongs the stun, but it won't last
- forever, and the critical hit rate bonus also diminishes.
- - You don't necessarily have to blindside the enemy before they attack.
- Blindsiding is possible at (pretty much) any point during the animation,
- and nearly all enemy attacks give you enough time to blindside them after
- avoiding the attack. If you blindside an enemy during an attack, the
- attack won't be interrupted, and the enemy's stun animation won't begin
- until they've gone through the attack animation. The stun effects still
- apply, though.
- - Blindsiding can be rather tricky when dealing with multiple enemies,
- as you need to find enough time to charge the blindside while also
- targetting the right enemy. Predicting a specific enemy going on the
- offensive is not that easy, as enemies like to idle for a while after
- attacking. Furthermore, some enemies exhibit erratic movement when not
- committed to attacking, and even if they are, they might not be facing
- you as they maneuver around other enemies blocking their path. Many
- enemies will also exhibit car-like movement, meaning they tend to move
- forward as they (slowly) turn to face you.
- - Additionally, even if you do successfully pull off a Blindside, the
- enemy might get hit by an AI-controlled character and, thus, potentially
- recover before you're able to attack them yourself. Telling the AI to get
- their own targets ('Fight freestyle') helps avoid this, but only if there
- are indeed multiple targets.
- - Not sure if this is intentional or not, but if you use an attack with
- no knockdown or float to interrupt an enemy targeting you and then chain
- into an attack with knockdown or float, it'll be possible to blindside
- the enemy while they're knocked down. Many characters can do this with
- their basic normal attacks.
- - You can't blindside an enemy casting a spell.
- - If you hit a wall during the Blindside maneuver, the maneuver is halted,
- but the enemy is stunned all the same.
- - If you try to do a blindside at long range, the enemy will just lose
- track of you for a second.
- - Enemies can't do blindsides, but some enemies have a blindside counter,
- where they'll either punish you with a crit (ie. one of their normal
- attacks that deals a critical hit) or perform some other special action.
- You can tell when it's a crit, as the target indicator on your character
- will be red instead of the usual yellow. For special counters, you just
- have to try to memorize which families have them (Mandragoras, Thieves,
- Rock Hermits, Turtles, Clowns, the final boss).
- - A regular Blindside counter won't be triggered if you blindside the
- enemy during an attack or while they're flinching. The target indicator
- will be flashing to indicate these windows of opportunity.
- - While it may seem safe to blindside an enemy with a counter when they're
- being hit by another character, this is hardly the case. Like I said, you
- don't want other characters hitting the enemy while you're blindsiding them.
- - You *cannot* switch to another character during a Blindside counter.
- - The Blindside indicator isn't visible on Chaos. Hardly a big deal.
- - Blindside is referred to as 'Sight Out' in the Japanese version.
- - There's also the BEAT system that's always active and augments your
- abilities. You can choose between three different BEAT modes: S, N, or B.
- BEAT modes S and B level up when you finish battles using that particular
- BEAT mode. The number of battles needed for a level equals Lv*2 + 2 (6 for
- Lv2, 22 for Lv10, etc.). The max level is 20 and requires 456 battles in
- total. You can't switch modes during battle.
- ATP Int Hit Beat S
- | 5x | 5x | 4x-2 |
- | 100 | 100 | 78 | Lv20
- Lv1 | Increased damage to Blindsided enemies (Lv + 4 (%), 1,24x at Lv20)
- 5 | Faster waza execution after a Blindside + enable Overlimit chaining
- 9 | Double Blindsides enabled (avoids counters)
- 13 | Enable Blindside pre-charge
- 17 | Confuse nearby enemies when Blindsiding
- 20 | No Guard status while Blindside charging
- HP DFP GRD Beat B
- | x% | 5x | 4x-2 |
- | 20% | 100 | 78 | Lv20
- Lv1 | Increased Critical Hit chance during Rush Mode
- 5 | Rush gain +50%
- 9 | MP cost -25% during Rush Mode
- 13 | Slower Rush depletion (4 per second instead of 10)(10 in 8s off Rush)
- 17 | -5% damage received during Rush Mode
- 20 | 50% Rush gain during Rush Mode (with Lv5 bonus)
- - Beat N grants the combined stat bonuses of S and B but none of the special
- factors.
- - Beat S is often required to maintain a blindside state when using slower
- waza on a blindsided enemy.
- - Beat B is largely ideal for AI-controlled characters, since they can't
- perform Blindsides (or sidestep) and (probably) won't avoid attacks as well
- as you do. They could still benefit from the Blindside damage bonus given
- by Beat S, but it would require them to attack an enemy you blindsided and,
- even then, it won't help much if you can't maintain the blindside for long.
- - The ATP and DFP boosts from BEAT can drastically shift the balance in
- your favor in the earlier parts of the game. It's particularly useful on
- higher difficulty levels.
- - Blindside pre-charge allows you to charge a blindside outside of neutral
- state (ie. during a sidestep, attack, knockdown, whatever). Highly useful
- against tougher enemies.
- - Overlimit chaining allows you to chain waza indefinitely (after doing
- a Blindside), albeit with reduced damage, as seen below. It's not terribly
- useful.
- hits Speed Damage
- <50 | 1,5x | 0,25x |
- 50+ | 2,0x | 0,10x |
- - Blocking is once again automated like in the earlier installments.
- Attacks can be blocked from the front and sides, and the odds of success
- are greater from the front and when standing still. Not all enemies have
- the ability to block. This is defined by the enemy type. Blocking an enemy's
- attack doesn't really give you much of an advantage. You're better off
- avoiding attacks.
- - Chance to block equals: Target GRD / Attacker Hit * x / 4095 * 100 (%),
- where x is defined like so:
- PC Enemy
- Stationary - Front | 1000 | 1500 |
- Moving - Front | 500 | 600 |
- Stationary - Side | 200 | 400 |
- Moving - Side | 100 | 200 |
- - Targeting in SO4 can be a real pain in the ass. For whatever reason,
- you don't have the option of simply automatically targeting the nearest
- enemy (Would it have made blindsiding a bit too easy? I don't know.).
- You have to either use the game's automated targeting system that may
- switch targets when you don't want it to or you can lock on by pressing
- L3 (you know, clicking the analog stick) and then cycle through the
- targets manually by pressing Start, which is rather awkward, but there
- really weren't any other buttons available.
- - Automated targeting will switch targets when an enemy is in your direct
- line of sight for half a second or so, but not too far. It works fairly
- well if you get used to it, and it's likely faster than Start cycling when
- facing a greater number of enemies, at least as long as those enemies aren't
- too close to each other.
- - You can see a little information about the enemy target in the top-left
- corner (name, range, Rush figure, status effects, HP bar, plus current HP
- figure if you use Scan).
- - SO4 features an actual aggro system, where an enemy will continue
- targeting a specific character if that character has built up more aggro
- for that particular enemy than other characters. Aggro accumulates mainly
- when a character attacks an enemy. Fighters also have access to the Taunt
- skill, which increases aggro for all enemies, whereas mages can learn the
- skill Hide, which has the opposite effect. If no character has built up
- much aggro, the enemy will just target whoever character happens to be in
- their direct line of sight.
- - When an enemy you're targeting targets a character, a little triangle
- pointing in the character's direction can be seen on the ground next to
- the enemy. The color of the triangle is determined by the enemy's aggro
- level towards their target: blue for low aggro, red for high (and medium?)
- aggro.
- - Mages like Lymle and Sarah seem to aggro certain enemies more with their
- mere proximity, which is rather concerning, since you don't want your healer
- to get any aggro whatsoever. I've dubbed these enemies 'magehunters,' and
- they're pretty easy to recognize if you pay a little attention to who the
- enemies have a habit of targeting. Once you know who they are, you can just
- distract-punish them with an AoE attack. If you'd rather play it safe and
- just get them off your mage, use a Taunt+Hide combo. Hide alone might not
- be enough if no one else is drawing their aggro instead. Using your mage
- as bait for distract-punishing is not recommended in a pincer or surround
- formation.
- - Enemies can possess up to four special factors that alter their abilities
- in a similar way as the factors you can have on your equipment. The enemy
- list includes only the most notable factors.
- - The nastiest factors are the ones that boost ATP & Int or DFP, and the
- effect stacks if there are multiple carriers (eg. two DFP +100% factors
- becomes DFP +200%). The worst thing about these particular factors is that
- they apply to *all* enemies present, and even if the carrier is killed, the
- effect remains. You can only disable the effect temporarily by inflicting
- Void on the carrier. Killing the enemy while they have Void doesn't help,
- and casting Void on anyone other than the carrier has no effect on it.
- - Enemies with Crit+ have about 5% base critical hit rate. Sadly, I can't
- provide you with enemy crit% multipliers. They're not in the book, so...
- I think it's safe to say most basic attacks use a multiplier of 1, though.
- - The 'Rush +x' factor increases the subject's Rush gain by the indicated
- figure. It has no impact on the Rush gain of an opposing subject.
- - During battle, you can press R3 to toggle between two camera modes: a
- bird's-eye view and a 3rd person view. I highly recommend the former, so
- you can easily observe your immediate surroundings (although enemies can
- kind of blend in with the ground). Even with the bird's-eye view, the
- camera zooms out when using ranged actions.
- - The battle menu has 7 items:
- Tactics
- Members (switch with a reserve member)
- Escape
- Items (Default)
- Magic
- Skills (eg. Taunt, Hide, Berserk, Scan Enemy)
- Setup (change waza setup or equipment)
- - The menu uses icons, all of which are visible at a given time, but it
- only shows the name of the currently selected command. Consequently, until
- you get familiar with the icons and/or develop a muscle memory, the battle
- menu can be cumbersome. The lack of cursor memory doesn't help, although
- it at least remembers the last used item. Additionally, browsing the menu
- features a nasty little animation that can result in your input being
- ignored if you're too fast.
- - Using an item during battle takes about 1,5 seconds regardless of the
- character, and the item effect doesn't kick in until the end. As such,
- item use *can* get interrupted.
- - When choosing a blue target, you can use the shoulder buttons to cycle
- through your characters.
- - Spells are listed in a single column. Combined with the lack of cursor
- memory, this makes repeated manual use of healing spells *incredibly*
- unpleasant. Healing your party after battle is painfully slow as well.
- The list does wrap, so you can at least get to the bottom easily (for
- Void/Silence). You can also, finally, disable/enable spells for the AI
- during actual battle, for what it's worth.
- - Escape speed once again depends on the level difference between your
- party's level and the enemy's level. Don't have any details to offer on
- the actual math, however. You can cancel an escape with a sidestep.
- - A game over occurs when every single member of your party is incapacitated
- (ie. dead or paralyzed). If the last active party member falls, but there
- are living party members in the reserve, you'll be forced to switch that
- character with a reserve member. There's no way to heal characters in the
- reserve during battle, and you can't switch out a dead character for a
- living one (except when everyone is dead).
- - As before, enemies are visible on the field, and coming into contact
- with one will initiate a battle. Depending on how the enemy comes into
- contact with you, three different encounter types can occur, as seen
- below. The encounter type also determines the pool of enemy parties
- and formations the battle is drawn from, as seen in the encounter list.
- To oversimplify it a bit, preemptive encounters have fewer enemies than
- normal (and the enemies haven't been aggroed), and surprise encounters
- have more enemies than normal (and the enemies start at 30 Rush). Some
- locations have two different field enemy sets, in which case one of them
- is chosen randomly whenever you enter the area.
- Preemptive | You came into contact with the enemy from behind
- Surprise | The enemy came into contact with you from behind
- Normal | When neither of the above apply
- - Enemies are no longer visible on the mini-map, which you can expand
- by pressing Start.
- - When you start a battle, it takes longer to get into the action than
- before, as the game spends a moment to show off the enemy.
- - Link Encounter ("Ambush"): If you trigger a battle with another field
- enemy nearby, you will trigger a link encounter, where you'll fight the
- other enemy (or enemies) in a sequence, combining the spoils from all
- the battles while also receiving an Exp bonus. The subsequent battles
- are drawn from the regular encounter pool, and your characters start
- these battles in the positions they were at at the end of the previous
- battle. Each subsequent battle adds a green tile to your Bonus Board.
- - Field enemies pursue you when you're (more or less) nearby, but no
- longer do so once you've exceeded some Level limit. This makes it harder
- to get a surprise encounter and *much* harder to get a link encounter.
- With some flying enemies, it becomes difficult to get *any* kind of
- encounter.
- - Field enemies respawn when you move to another location. Given how
- large the areas can be, a much easier way to trigger a respawn is by
- using Meracle's Ocarina skill (obtained from a side quest on Roak). It
- doesn't work if the enemy is too close, though. If it's an enemy you
- just fought, take a couple of steps away first.
- - The main camp menu is a bit cumbersome to use, as it places almost
- everything under drop down menus, and the text is difficult to read due
- to the background image. The pointless animations when you open the menu
- don't help. Occasionally, there's even a loading time.
- - These are the seven main items on the menu and what they contain:
- Items Skills Characters Data
- Use items Use skills Status Dictionary
- Equip items Skill boost Tactics Recipes
- Battle config BEAT Synopsis
- Quests
- Collections Settings Save/Load
- Battle Trophies Save
- Spaceships Load
- Weapons
- Monsters
- - You can exit menus instantly by pressing Start.
- - The game mercifully features instant text-scrolling, *however* it does
- still have some pesky text box animations to contend with. You can use
- one of the shoulder buttons as Confirm during text boxes, so that helps
- when mashing your way through them.
- - The Quests section keeps track of all quests you've accepted but haven't
- completed yet. Regrettably, it doesn't show you the quests you've already
- finished.
- - The max number of items of a certain type you can carry is, once again,
- 20. New items appear in green, and you have to place the cursor on them
- to remove the color. Accordingly, you can easily end up with a large number
- of items appearing in green, even though few of them are actually recent.
- - Each character uses a unique weapon type. Armor can be split into four
- categories:
- Plates | Bacchus
- Heavy | Edge, Arumat, Faize
- Medium | Reimi, Meracle
- Light | Lymle, Myuria, Sarah
- - There are two types of accessories: neck and wrist. You can equip one
- of each. Neck accessories come in a much larger variety (even ignoring
- monster jewels) than wrist accessories. You can sort accessories by name
- or by different stats.
- - There are five different AI settings. These primarily affect whether
- or not the AI will target the same enemy as you (gang up vs. freestyle)
- and whether or not they'll use MP. If you're using a lot of Blindsides,
- I recommend freestyle. It also makes it easier to get pink tiles.
- - Edge is the only character who doesn't have the option 'Fight freestyle
- with full force,' but the regular freestyle option is good enough.
- - During battle, you can press the d-pad to toggle a character's AI.
- - The Tactics menu is also where you can swap characters between different
- slots. You *cannot* place a character in the reserve if it creates an empty
- slot in your active party.
- - You have no control over your party formation.
- - The AI uses healing spells when a character is below 30% HP, which is
- often too late when fighting tougher enemies. Sarah is the only mage who
- refrains from engaging the enemy and stays where you put her unless an
- enemy gets close to her, in which case she might whack the enemy once
- before disengaging.
- - If you start casting a spell disabled from AI use, and then switch to
- another character, the spell will fail.
- - Unsurprisingly, the default button configuration is rather suboptimal.
- Here's what I recommend:
- Square | Attack / Confirm
- X | Rush charge / Cancel
- Circle | Rush Mode
- Triangle | Menu
- L1 | Waza 1
- R1 | Waza 2
- L2 | Switch character left
- R2 | Switch character right
- - If there's one thing I have to give the game credit for, it's that it
- features the original Japanese voice track, the only voice track that
- matters (sadly, this was still unusual back in 2010). Even so, I do keep
- the voices off most of the time. You even have the option of turning off
- the voices for specific characters. You can also turn off the music and
- sound effects. Personally, I can't stand the wooshing sound you get
- whenever you kill an enemy, much less orchestral video game music.
- - Status Ailments
- Stun | Unable to act for 3s.
- Poison | Lose 1% HP every 2s, every 3s when moving on the field.
- Silence | Unable to use waza/magic/skills.
- Fog | No automated targeting/movement (homing attacks still work).
- Freeze | Unable to act for 6s. Killed if attacked.
- Paralysis | Unable to act (essentially dead).
- Pumpkin | Can only move. Lasts 30s.
- Curse | Flinch and lose 1% mMP every 3s. Ignores No Guard.
- Void | Prevent all effects and disable factors for 30s.
- - Poison, Silence, Curse, and Paralysis remain after battle.
- - Silence prevents the use of all skills that consume MP and it doesn't
- wear off, so it's a lot more nasty than ever before. That does also make
- it more useful, though.
- - A silenced enemy may still try to cast magic in vain.
- - A subject can resist a freezekill if there's a significant level gap.
- - The Trap Evasion skill will reduce Poison and Curse damage on the field
- (down to 0,2% at Lv10).
- - A subject can be affected by up to four status effects (or 'buffs/debuffs')
- like ATP Up or DFP Up, and the effect is cumulative. If a subject with four
- effects is hit with another effect, that effect is still applied, with the
- least recent effect getting pushed out.
- - Battle Bonus returns in the form of the Bonus Board, a board consisting
- of 14 individual slots, arranged in two slightly misaligned columns. The
- empty slots can be filled from bottom to top with tiles of four different
- colors. These tiles are obtained by killing an enemy in a certain way (or
- by triggering a link encounter) and they grant you a cumulative, beneficial
- effect of some kind, as seen below. Only kills made by the controlled
- character count.
- - To get post-battle recovery (Pink), the enemy can't even be hit by normal
- attacks from AI-controlled characters.
- - Since the Bonus Board is a zero-sum game, it can't boost both Exp and
- Fol as much as the Bonus Gauge from SO3. Yellow tiles are rather difficult
- to obtain early in the game anyway.
- - The board breaks if you run away or if your controlled character takes
- a critical hit or dies. When the board breaks, you lose all unlinked tiles
- and half of all linked tiles. Tiles of the same color are considered linked
- when they're in contact with each other.
- - Most enemies can't perform critical hits outside of Rush Mode, and only
- a fairly small number of enemies have a regular Blindside counter. Like
- before, you can switch to another character if you think you're about to
- get hit with a crit (unless it's a Blindside counter).
- - The board starts at 0 when you load the game.
- Blue | Exp +10% | Defeat an enemy with a critical hit
- Yellow | Fol +10% | Defeat more than one enemy with a single attack
- Pink | Regen +1% | Defeat an enemy using only battle skills
- Green | Party SP +1 | Trigger an 'Ambush' battle (ie. link encounter)
- - I used the Japanese SO4 Final Guide as a source for a lot of the less
- apparent technical information, such as enemy stats, attack attributes,
- and formulas. The information in the book seems largely accurate, but I
- did notice a couple of errors (the Man-Eating Tree gives 26 Exp, not 16,
- and the interval of Curse is 3 seconds, not 2). Either that or they're
- version differences.
- - Stats:
- HP | Hit Points (99 999 max)
- MP | Mental Points, required for waza and magic
- Strength | Base ATP (Attack Power) (9999 max)
- Constitution | Base DFP (Defense Power)
- Intelligence | Magical damage output
- Accuracy | Chance to avoid blocking when attacking
- Guard | Chance to block when being attacked.
- - Physical damage equals
- (2*ATP - target DFP) / 1,5 + (0,01*ATP)~(0,02*ATP) + 0~3
- - Attacks have varying damage multipliers as seen in the move lists.
- These as well as most other multipliers (cancel bonus, critical hit,
- BEAT) are applied before the random variables. The elemental resistance
- and boss damage resistance multipliers are applied last.
- - The damage percentage figures shown in the menu combine the multipliers
- of all the hits of a specific move. Some of them are just completely
- inaccurate, though.
- - Critical hits ignore DFP and multiply damage by 1,2 by default (1,1
- for enemies). A subject can't perform critical hits natively. It requires
- Rush Mode, Blindsiding, Focus, or the Critical Hit support skill or factor.
- Even magic can deal critical hits.
- - Magical damage, for what it's worth, equals
- base * Int +/- 0~(0,05*Int)
- - There are seven elements: Fire, Water, Lightning, Wind, Earth, Light,
- and Darkness. Elemental resistance works in multiples of 5%. Eg. a
- resistance of 4 means a 20% reduction in damage. A resistance of -10
- means a 50% increase in damage, etc. Absorption is possible as well.
- A wise lusmu once said: elemental weapons and attacks should not be
- used indiscriminately.
- - You don't have access to any high level areas that you could explore
- before you're supposed to (unless you count the Arena), the Bonus Board
- has less xp boosting potential than the Bonus Gauge, and the game uses
- a new Xp chart, where you need more xp to advance. Accordingly, leveling
- up in SO4 is much slower than in SO3 at least until you get synthesis.
- With all four character using Exp boosting gear, you could be getting
- something like 390% the normal amount of xp plus any possible blue tiles.
- One could argue this kind of breaks the game, but it really helps when
- dealing with the post-game dungeons or higher difficulty levels.
- - Your unused characters will gain some levels from the field Exp you
- receive from harvesting/side quests/etc., but it's nowhere near enough
- to keep them up to date.
- - The max level is once again 255, but a character is capped at 200 by
- default. You can remove that cap by getting 50% of a character's BTs.
- After Lv200, each level requires the same amount of Exp.
- - With the exception of HP and GRD, stat gains are pretty minimal after
- Lv200. Eg. the fighters only gain about 100 Str going from Lv200 to 255.
- - Lv255 stats:
- HP MP Str Con Hit GRD Int Luck Guts
- Meracle | 62 529 | 2518 | 2987 | 1743 | 1243 | 1635 | 710 | 80 | 40 |

- - Luck and Guts don't increase from leveling up. Fury Boost can increase
- Guts by 200 at Lv10.
- - Critical hit rate formula:

- - Guts determines the odds of Fury survival (ie. remaining with 1 HP
- when taking a lethal hit) like so: Guts * x / 2048 * 100 (percent). x
- is determined by the character's current HP like so:
- 79%< | 8 30-39% | 3 0-9% | 0,5
- 60-79% | 6 20-29% | 2
- 40-59% | 4 10-19% | 1
- - SO4 features stat-boost items for all seven core stats, and they come
- in two varieties: regular and potent. A few enemies have these as rare
- drops, but there's also an item called Bizarre Fruit that produces one
- of these seeds when used. Once you reach the end of the game, you can
- easily farm these on Lemuris. While this technically makes it possible
- to boost your stats as much as you want, the process is slow. Boosting
- a single character's max HP by 10 000 (or Str/Con by 500) takes about 6
- hours. If you don't have the patience, that's fine. If you're interested,
- let's run some numbers.
- - You can get 20 Bizarre Fruit in about 17 minutes. Only the three
- harvesting spots closest to Woodley give the fruit (I'll just call them
- berries). The odds of getting one is about 80%. The odds of getting at
- least two on a single trip are about 90%. You'll get an average of 2,4
- berries per trip. Here's the math, if you're curious:
- 3 | 51,2% 0,8*0,8*0,8 1,536
- 2 | 38,4% 0,8*0,8*0,2*3 0,768 2,4 average
- 1 | 9,6% 0,8*0,2*0,2*3 0,096
- 0 | 0,8% 0,2*0,2*0,2 0
- 2+| 89,6%
- 1+| 99,2%
- - Once you have 20 berries, it's time to play the reload game. Using 5
- berries before reloading is more or less the sweet spot. You'll *usually*
- get the seed you want in five minutes or so. Using 5 at a time usually
- gives you 5 seeds in roughly 20 minutes. Might need to use more than 5
- for HP/MP (once it took me 30 minutes to get a single Potent Magic Seed).
- You could also settle for the regular variety and then use IC to upgrade
- them (2 for 1). Either way, you'll end up with a bunch of regular ones
- on the side. Upgrading the +4 ones isn't worth it, however, since it's
- only a 2 point increase (8 vs 10) and you have to spend some time farming
- Magical Clay (to dupe the Vases) and buying some other stuff. So long as
- you have access to Dupe, upgrading the HP/MP seeds is a good idea. At the
- very least, use them before hitting 20.
- - If you're going for 100% BTs, refrain from using any HP/ATP seeds until
- you've gotten all the relevant BTs (exact damage/healing).
- - The book doesn't offer the odds for getting the different seeds, so
- I tried to calculate them myself using a sample size of 500 (should've
- done 1000, but I got lazy).
- reg/Potent
- HP 9% 2% 50 200
- MP 6% 2% 30 100
- ATP 10% 4% 4 10
- DFP 10% 4% 4 10
- Hit 12% 7% 4 10
- GRD 12% 7% 4 10
- Int 10% 4% 4 10
- - Battle Trophies return and there are no fewer than nine *hundred* of
- them. Each character has 100 personal BTs, and you can *only* obtain a
- character's BTs when controlling them. The game won't even track any
- of the BT-related statistics gains for anyone other than the character
- you're controlling at the time. Eg. if you want Edge's Defeat 999 Humanoid
- enemies BT, you have to *personally* score each and every one of those
- kills. The worst part is you *cannot* carry over the statistics to a new
- playthrough like you can in SO3 (ideally, all the stat gains would be
- shared among all save files, which is what SO5 does). The unlocked BTs
- themselves are at least shared between all save files.
- - Even so, unlocking BTs is one of the more interesting activities in
- the game, and you do get a few rewards for it as well, as seen below.
- Try to get at least 50 with each character.
- - The BTs are mostly hidden at first. When you hit a BT count divisible
- by 10, some more BTs will be revealed. Eg. reaching 20 reveals most BTs
- between 20 and 30. Reaching 40 reveals most BTs between 40-50, etc.
- - Rewards:
- 25 | Additional battle voice clips
- 50 | Level cap increased (200 -> 255)
- 75 | Additional battle voice clips
- 100 | CP +3
- - Outside of combat, you'll have to contend with the imprecise, unresponsive
- controls when it comes to simply moving Edge around, an issue that's only
- compounded by the automatic movement of the 3rd person camera. You can only
- (consistently) move at two different speeds, walking or running, and, for
- some reason, there's an input duration threshold that needs to be met to
- actually get Edge to move when starting from a motionless state (WTF?!).
- - While you can walk by partially tilting the analog stick, you can also
- toggle between run mode and walk mode with one of the shoulder buttons.
- - Camera control, using the right analog stick, also feels astoundingly
- awkward, You can't adjust the camera vertically without also affecting
- the level of zoom; lowering the camera also zooms in, while raising the
- camera also zooms out. Horizontal camera control is a mess as well, as the
- minimum consistent speed is usually either too fast or too slow compared
- to what you want, and the max speed isn't much faster than the minimum
- speed. (The battle camera, thankfully, doesn't have the same issue with
- minimum speed, although the max speed could still be higher. It is rather
- weird, though, how the horizontal camera control is inconsistent between
- the field and combat.)
- - As a finishing touch, you can't move while you have the large map open.
- - You'll also have to get used to constantly pressing the dash button in
- order to move faster on the field, a process that often involves moving
- your thumb between the right analog stick and the dash button so you can
- adjust the camera and actually see where you're dashing. With a single
- press of a button, dashing gives you a short, uninterruptable burst of
- quick movement. Edge actually stops for a brief moment when you start the
- dash. If an enemy is chasing you close enough, they'll be able to catch
- up with you.
- - You *can't* remap dash to one of the shoulder buttons.
- - You can press R3 to bring the camera directly behind Edge.
- - The game remembers the camera position when you save your game.
- - Item Creation in SO4 is... about as basic as a crafting system can get.
- Once you've farmed the necessary materials, you can create a single copy
- of the item you want. The one unique aspect about it is how you discover
- new recipes by combining the talents of up to three different characters,
- a process that consumes Party SP. To discover every recipe, you have to
- try all possible combinations and you have to do it again after you've
- increased the IC skill levels. Indeed, without consulting a guide, it can
- get rather tedious.
- - Each character allows you to discover recipes in a certain field:
- Edge | Smithery
- Reimi | Cooking
- Faize | Alchemy
- Lymle | Artistry
- Bacchus | Engineering
- Meracle | Crafting
- Myuria | Compounding
- Sarah | Synthesis (no need for recipes)
- - You can only perform IC aboard your ship, the Calnus.
- - You'll, uh... You'll have to get used to Welch freaking out during the
- creation process. It is what it is. Make yourself numb to it.
- - You can obtain materials through chests, item drops, and shops as well
- as the little procurement points found on the field, a small number of
- which are hidden. These spots respawn when you enter the Calnus. You can
- find lists of all the possible items in a given location in the Area Notes
- section.
- - The weapons and armor you can create are time-gated in a largely sensible
- manner to keep things balanced.
- - Occasionally, IC gives you a lucky bonus, where you'll either create an
- additional copy of the item (for non-gear items) or a high quality (HQ)
- version of a piece of gear. The HQ variant has slightly higher stats than
- the regular one and maybe an additional factor. Later in the game, you
- probably don't want those additional factors, since it leaves less room
- for customization, whereas early in the game, the factors may not matter,
- since you don't have access to Synthesis, but the stat boost is so minimal
- it's not worth the trouble. In any case, you can get the HQ version in
- 10-20 minutes by reloading.
- - Synthesis now allows you to customize any type of equipment, although
- items only have four slots for factors. Aside from adding factors, synthing
- can also alter the stats of the item. Synthing an item has varying results
- depending on the type of the base item. Each piece of gear has a certain
- Synth limit that determines how many items you can customize it with.
- - Monster jewels can't be used as a base item, but you can still synth
- them into other items.
- - The factors 'HP damage +x%' and 'Damage against enemy type +x%' only
- affect normal attacks.
- - Here are some of the most popular factors and how to get them:
- ATP +18% | Saber-Toothed Tiger Fang
- DFP +20% | Red Dragon Scale
- HP +20% | Potent Health Seeds
- Stats +5% | Hyper Potion
- 25% no HP damage | Blue Talisman, Mirage Robe, Blue Eagle Ranger Jewel
- Crit | Crystal
- - The Duplication skill, obtained in the post-game, helps *immensely* when
- it comes to IC. It requires Magical Clay, which is fairly easy to farm
- (you can get 20 in roughly 30 minutes). At most, an item can require 11
- Magical Clay to dupe, but most only require 1 (at Lv10).
- - Food items are now mostly about granting temporary buffs that last for
- 5 or 10 battles. However, you can't stack the effect like you can with
- spells, and the effect is lost if the character dies.
- - The game features a large number of mostly generic side quests. These
- can be divided between "proper" side quests that are mostly just fetch
- quests and shop orders that are nothing but fetch quests. The Dupe skill
- helps a lot with shop orders.
- - Completing quests gives you Exp, Party SP and Fol. Proper side quests
- also give you items.
- - Collection data (Battle Trophies, Spaceships, Weapons, and Monsters) is
- contained in the system data file and, as such, is shared between all save
- files (with the slight exception of item drop data).
- - The in-game enemy list features 154 enemies, which is not even half of
- the enemies in the game. Either way, an enemy will be added once you've
- killed one for the first time. The information shown is limited to Exp,
- Fol, enemy type, analysis rate, encounter locations, kill count, and item
- drops you've actually obtained.
- - Item drop data from pre-existing save files will carry over at the start
- of a new playthrough, but will *not* be updated to reflect any new items
- obtained in other save files beyond that.
- - Killing an enemy found in the in-game enemy list increases that enemy's
- analysis rate. Once it reaches 100%, you can use a Monster Jewel to create
- a neck accessory with stats and factors that vary depending on the enemy.
- There are already lists of these accessories and their stats out there, so
- I won't bother making another one. Either way, most of them are rather
- unimpressive, and Monster Jewels are in limited supply. (Technically, you
- can start creating them after the Mothership, but it's hardly worth it.)
- - Starting with Roak, all normal enemies require 100 kills to reach 100%
- analysis rate. Bosses generally require either 7 or 4 kills. You can 100%
- the bosses quite easily if you just save to another slot after beating one
- and then load the game so you can fight it again.
- - You do *not* need to reach 100% analysis rate with all enemies to get
- the 'enemy list completed' Trophy.
- - The Disintegration Ring returns in various forms. They have a limited
- number of charges and can't be used if you run out. You can recharge them
- by seeing certain NPCs and by using the skill Charge.

- - You may run into syncing issues on the PS3. I find you get better results
- if you sync by opening the Trophy list rather than by using the 'Sync with
- server' option.
- - The Platinum trophy is *infamously* time-consuming, mainly thanks to
- the Battle Trophies, although it's hardly the only one that can cause you
- trouble. 100% Quests, 100% Chests, and 100% Items Created are all easily
- missable.
- - There are about 415 chests in the game (and an infinite number in one
- of the post-game dungeons, but those don't count towards the Trophy). Even
- with the skill that displays all chests on the map, it's fairly easy to
- miss a few. There are two locations in the game that you can never return
- to after finishing the events within: the Military Facility and the Cardianon
- Mothership. If you miss even a *single* chest in these locations... A few
- of these require using the Fire Ring, so make sure you charge that before
- leaving Lemuris. Aside from that, you just need to be *very* careful, *very*
- thorough. Double-check or triple-check just to be sure.
- - There's also one missable chest inside a house in Triom and two around
- the Exploration Base on Aeos.
- - If you can't carry the items you receive from a chest, go to your inventory
- and toss some of the items with Select to make space for them.
- - 30 items in IC are unlocked by acquiring a Recipe Memo, and the first
- one you can get can only be gotten before fighting the first boss. You
- also need to find the recipes for all of Faize's weapons before he leaves
- the party (Iron Saber, Elastic Rapier, Rune Saber, Onyx Saber).
- - Several entries in Spaceship Data are also missable, but since the data
- is shared, you don't have to get all of them in a single playthrough.
- 001. SRF-003 Calnus (Calnus - Flight Deck, start of game)
- 004. SRF-001 Aquila (Calnus - Flight Deck, start of game)
- 006. SRF-002 Balena (Aeos - Exploration Base)
- 007. SRF-004 Dentdelion (Aeos - Exploration Base)
- 008. SRF-005 Eremia (Aeos - Exploration Base)
- 012. Zagzagel (Aeos - Exploration Base)
- 016. Sol (Aeos - Exploration Base)
- 002. Calnus-II (Aeos - Exploration Base, after leaving Aeos)
- 021. Cardianon Mothership (Mothership - B1)
- - Several Spaceship entries are found on En Il, but only after reaching
- the final planet, and one of them is only found after beating the game.
- - Some Quests and Shop Orders are only available during a limited time
- window. Early in the game, it's best to refrain from selling items in
- case you need it for a shop order.
- - Aeos: All Quests and Shop Orders need to be completed before proceeding
- to the Military Facility (last chance is after completing the Mothership).
- Buy an extra Eldarian Bow for a shop order in Triom.
- - Lemuris: All Shop Orders in Triom need to be completed before completing
- the Celestial Ship.
- - Roak: The Quest 'A Cherished Bangle' must be started before turning in
- Rumble in the Caves (by talking to Lias in Astral after taking down the
- boss). You receive the quest from a soldier on B2 of the Astral Caves.
- If you're paying attention to the map, it's hard to miss.
- - The Memory Plate can be used to check statistics such as the number of
- recipes discovered, different items created, quests completed, and deaths.
- There's also a treasure chest rate, but no absolute figure (each chest is
- about 0,24%). You can create the plate once you reach En Il. It's one of
- those objects you can place in your ship.
- - Many of the old SO4 guides are based on the original 360 version. There
- are some differences between that and the later versions. Eg. enemies give
- more Exp in subsequent versions and synthesis was somewhat nerfed.
- - Private Actions (PAs) are obviously there, and nearly all of them occur
- on your ship while you're traveling to the next story destination for the
- first time. As such, they have *very* limited time windows, and some of
- them are mutually exclusive.
- - Having a high enough affinity between Edge and another character will
- trigger an additional ending sequence involving that character. None of
- these are mutually exclusive. A few of these sequences have additional
- requirements.
- - Skip scene now functions like a typical skip scene function. Another step
- back. Sigh... Well, at least there aren't anywhere near as many scenes to
- skip. There *are*, however, a small number of scenes you can't skip: the
- opening, ending, voiced PAs, and the Astral Cave scenes.
- - There are four difficulty levels: Earth (Easy), Galaxy (Normal), Universe
- (Hard), Chaos (Very Hard). By default, only Earth and Galaxy are available.
- Beat the game on Galaxy to unlock Universe, and beat it on Universe to
- unlock Chaos. You can't switch difficulty levels once the game has started.
- - Once you get your BEAT levels up, Universe and Chaos aren't that different
- from Galaxy (at least when it comes to the main game). The enemies take more
- hits to kill and Rush more often, but that's about it. There are also some
- monster jewels that can drastically shift the balance in your favor (Spriggan,
- Ashlay), but I'd recommend against using those.

- PC Move List A01
- - cm and DPS have to share a column due to the lack of space, so, no,
- there's no 'total cm;' the figure you see below the cm values is DPS.
- - DPS figures are only approximate and don't take chaining into account.
- The duration of a move will be shorter when canceled, thus resulting in
- higher DPS.
- - The difference between 'long range' and 'long distance' is that the
- subject itself moves a long distance in case of the latter.
- - Chaining into waza from a normal attack does indeed involve a buffer
- unlike when simply chaining waza; just press L1 or R1 during the attack
- and the waza will initiate as soon as the normal attack ends. The same
- applies when chaining normal attacks.

- - Ripper Pounce has very limited range, so it doesn't chain too well.
- - Comet Impact is powerful, but it can easily whiff and it's very combo-
- unfriendly (until you get Drill Spike). Instead of waiting for an enemy

- - Meracle moves back a little during Acrobatic Vault, so it can't juggle
- for long when chained with itself. Even so, it's a good choice.
- - Claws of Fury is just too combo-unfriendly. I'd give it a pass. Drill
- Spike can catch the enemy after a Comet Impact, but it doesn't work with
- this one, not unless the enemy hits a wall.

- - Drill Spike is my personal favorite. Great dps and requires a bit of
- effort to chain well, so it's not as mindless as X-Claw. It doesn't chain
- well with itself unless you avoid going through the enemy, which mainly
- only happens with larger enemies and, even then, it's not guaranteed.
- - The combo I like to use is: Drill Spike, Comet Impact, Drill Spike,

- - X-Claw is a very popular choice for a very good reason. It kicks ass.
- Just like Termination, though, it's rather simplistic. Just mash the
- shoulder buttons and watch the ownage ensue. Or don't watch. It makes
- no functional difference.
- - Max Shockwave is a pretty fun move, but not the best choice. You'll
- only get a few hits if the enemy isn't dragged along with the sphere

- - You need good timing to pull off a clean air combo. If you're way too
- quick, you won't do the Ae at all, since you'll just end up chaining into
- SR instead.
- - SR+PB+Ae+KD is the ideal combo, and you can loop it. Since KD cancels
- the enemy's knockdown, you can just keep chaining on.
- - PB has very limited range, so it can easily miss smaller enemies. If
- you chain into it from KD, you could whiff simply because there's a long
- enough gap between the hits that the enemy might just move away.
- - If the enemy has No Guard, you could just keep chaining SR+PB non-stop.
- - You can chain into PB even from LR, but it's generally only possible
- when the enemy is in Rush Mode, and there's no knockback. That means
- there's not going to be any float either, so it's only really useful
- for finishing off enemies very low on health.

- - Aura Spark is technically long range, but Edge has to run all the way
- up close to use it (could've been used for sniping otherwise). It does
- work ok when you chain it with itself, but then you only get the shockwave
- hit(s). The Rush generation is also a bit high.
- - Mystic Cross is the first of Edge's three jugglers, but I wouldn't use
- it on its own.

- - Raging Strike is similar to Comet Impact. It's slower and whiffs more
- easily and has a much higher CP cost, but it also hits multiple enemies
- more easily and is (sort of) more combo-friendly. You can hit the enemy
- more easily if you knock it down first with Rising Blade or Cyclone Blade.
- - Scintillant Stream is hard to recommend. It locks you in place for too
- long and has minimal range.

- can only be used when set as a battle skill. For whatever reason, these
- skills deal 1/3 more damage than the figures in the game and in the book
- indicate (eg. Hound Grenade deals ~3,2666x damage at Lv10). The random
- variation is similar to physical skills (+1~2% Int).

- BT Help A02
- - The BT guide on GameFAQs should be your primary source of information
- regarding Battle Trophies, if only because it has a full list. In this
- section, I'd like to provide some additional notes and alternate methods.
- Defeat an enemy in exactly x minutes (Bacchus, Reimi)
- - These are fairly lenient (could be +/-0,5s), but that won't help much
- if you don't start the clock at the right time. It's easy to start the
- clock a bit late. You need to start it as soon as the camera starts
- shifting towards your character, before you can even see the character.
- Defeat two enemies in a row with exact damage (Bacchus)
- - Use Compact Bombs and Wide Range EM Bombs on the Harpies on Roak.
- Only works on Galaxy.
- Win with 5~1 HP Remaining (Arumat)
- - You can easily get these on Aeos, since the enemies deal 0-4 pod.
- Save once you're close and load if you overshoot.
- Win 100 consecutive battles without healing (Arumat)
- - You can't even recover MP.
- Recover HP to the exact maximum capacity (Edge-023, Myuria-023)
- - This BT *specifically* requires you to use the regular Healing spell.
- No other healing action will work.
- - Again, take damage from weak enemies to bring your cHP down to the
- required value.
- Absorb a total of x HP/MP (Reimi, Sarah, Myuria)
- - This isn't about absorbing elemental damage. You need to drain HP/MP
- *from* the enemy. MP is simple enough. Myuria has her MP draining normal
- attack, whereas other characters can use Symbolic Weapon.
- - For HP, you need to use HP Absorption Units. Wait until you can dupe it.
- Each one does 1600-2700 pod, but you can't drain more HP than what the
- enemy has.
- Survive 3/4/5/6 ambushes in one battle (Edge)
- - These can't overlap; even if you have a chain of 6 battles, you won't
- get the BT for 6 if you were still missing any of the previous ones.
- - The Phantom ambush could potentially be used for these, but I'd recommend
- getting them in the Wandering Dungeon instead.
- Get 3\4 status ailments at once
- - Using drinks makes these rather trivial, but if you'd prefer not to
- use those, you can easily get it at the colosseum by fighting Anonymous
- (Poison), Beetle Sage (Silence), Moonlit Man (Curse via Ignition), and
- the Blind Sucker (Fog). Make sure you're not using any gear with status
- resistance.
- Inflicted with ailment x 100 times (Reimi, Sarah)
- - Poison: Chaotic Leader (Nox)
- - Paralysis: Lightning Corpse (En Il)
- - Curse: Ill Will / Wandering Ghost (Tatroi - Team Battle) / Lightning Corpse
- - Pumpkin: Man-Faced Tree (Tatroi - Single Battle)
- Kill 100 enemies inflicted with ailment x
- - Use Bacchus' sidestep shot to inflict the ailment, then kill the enemy
- with the appropriate character. Dupe the Maser Cannon and use that to get
- the lowest ATP. Paralysis is harder to inflict than other ailments (which
- makes sense), so you'll only get about 1 per battle. The others are much
- faster.
- - You can just inflict Silence with the spell, although a lot of enemies
- have 50% resistance to it. I just listed a few with no resistance.
- Reimi | Paral. | Nox | Soul Reaper
- Bacchus | Fog | Nox | Phantom Beetle
- Arumat | Curse | Nox | Phantom Beetle
- Edge | Poison | WD | Adephaga Prox
- Myuria | Freeze | WD | Adephaga Prox
- Lymle | Silence| Lemuris | Kobold, Myconids
- Survive incapacitation via Fury x (Consecutive) Times (R, M, Y)
- - Equip Fury Boost and a Green Talisman for these. I doubt the Green
- Talisman effect stacks. Use Self-Destructors when your health is above 80%.
- Get enraged x times (Myuria, Faize)
- - Just go fight Ashlay at the colosseum and have him whack off a couple
- of characters over and over again.
- Use Energy Shield four times in a row (Lymle)
- - Doesn't look like you can abuse saves for this one. It's not too bad,
- though. I got it by fighting the Living Forest (2x Animated Tree) at the
- arena.
- Defeat 999 Scumbags (Lymle)
- - The Country Bumpkins at the arena is good for this.
- Defeat 99 Metal Scumbags (Lymle)
- - Some of the thieves at the arena are Mech-type, but they don't count.
- It has to be the one found in the Seven Star Cave.
- Defeat 55 Grigori (Faize)
- - I'd get these by fighting the optional bosses in the final battle (if
- they count - I've yet to confirm it). You'll have to go through the ending
- every time, but it's not that big a deal. You can go do something else in
- the mean time.
- Absorb (element)-based attack (mages)
- - You can get elemental absorption by synthing Symbol Cards. Check the
- enemy move list to see what spells enemies use (although physical attacks
- work too). Don't forget that enemies prefer to use magic at long range
- (unless it's Vampiric Blade). Load the game afterwards if you'd rather
- not mess with your armor like that.
- - You *cannot* use friendly fire to get these. The damage is simply reduced
- to 0.
- Take no damage 50 times in a row (Reimi, Myuria)
- - Instead of using Fainting Potions, you could equip a Holy Chainmail /
- Lustrous Robe and a Kokabiel Spawn Jewel and go get hit by a Blade Beast's
- tail shot (eg. Optimum Fangs at the arena).
- Land 120\100 hits during Rush Mode (Meracle, Edge)
- - Chain Ripper Pounce on a Man-Faced Tree (equip an Anti-Pumpkin). If
- you're fast enough, you can maintain the hit chain between cancel chains.
- - Edge should use 2x Scintillant Stream and end the chain with a Stampede
- Slash, which has a low enough recovery time that you can maintain the hit
- chain between cancel chains.
- Land 99 999 hits (Meracle, Edge)
- - You'll likely get these while going for the -ology drops.
- Obtain 255 -ology drops
- - Of all the BTs in the game, these are some of the most disgustingly
- time-consuming. The harder ones will take maybe 20 hours each.
- - Doesn't matter who kills the enemy when going for these.
- Sarah | 30% | Kobold Bandit | Roak
- Arumat/Fz| 15% | Adephaga Venom | Aeos
- | 25% | Adephaga Prox | WD B1
- Meracle | 6% | Crater Peryton | 7SC B1
- Edge | 5% | Sydonaist Delta | 7SC B4
- Reimi | 7% | Giant Fungus | Lemuris - Van Elm
- | 25% | Acid Gerel | WD B1
- Bacchus | 5% | Dark Bot Striker | Nox Obscurus
- Lymle | 7% | Soul Reaper | Nox Obscurus - Pulsating Bog
- | 25% | Misfortuner | WD B1-5
- Myuria | 8% | Flying Ice | 7SC B4
- | 30% | Jade Golem | WD B3-4
- Defeat 30 000 enemies (Edge, Arumat)
- - These are the absolute worst. These could take up to 80 hours each.
- It's slower for Edge, since he doesn't have AoE waza, but he'll likely
- start with more kills under his belt (up to 5000 from the -ology drops
- alone).
- - It seems enemies spawned during battle (Grells, etc) don't count, not
- that it makes much of a difference.
- Deal Exact Damage (Meracle, Bacchus, Reimi, Edge, Arumat, Lymle)
- - Rather than messing around with Self-Destructors, I would recommend
- getting these using waza and normal attacks. Start with a number slightly
- below the target damage figure (to account for the first random variable),
- divide it by the damage multiplier of the attack you think might be
- suitable, multiply by 1,5, and divide by 2. This gives you the ATP figure
- that would get you in range if the enemy had 0 DFP, which no enemy has.
- Check your weapons and pick one that gets you a fair bit above the ATP
- value you first calculated. Multiply the difference between that and the
- ATP you actually have with 2 to see how much DFP the enemy needs to have.
- Then you just check the enemy list to see if any enemy has that value.
- Run the numbers to see that it works out. It's a little tricky to take
- the random variable into account in advance, so you'll likely need to
- tweak your numbers a bit.
- - If an elemental multiplier is involved, the damage figures may be
- limited to either odd or even figures. If it's one but you want the
- other, try increasing your ATP just a little bit.
- - If you try to get these before reaching Lv255, you may run into issues
- due to level up gains.
- - When working with very high ATP figures, it could take a while before
- you get a hit, since the range of random variation is greater.
- - There's a list of weapons and other ATP-affecting gear a few pages below.
- - Again, physical damage equals
- (2*ATP - target DFP) / 1,5 + (0,01*ATP)~(0,02*ATP) + 0~3
- - Self-Destructor 3000 damage is: base damage * cHP / 10 000.
- - I found crunching the numbers quite enjoyable, but if that's not your
- thing, see the list below. Refrain from using any Attack Seeds until
- you've gotten the BTs for a specific character (unless you're down to
- the last one and it helps with it). These only work on Galaxy level,
- and the IC weapons are regular variety.

- Recover exactly 777/7777/77 777 HP (Sarah)
- - Don't level up Sarah's healing spells until you've gotten these.
- - Since you can easily change your max HP in the hundreds, the first
- two digits from the right (without Beat B) are the most important ones.
- - Non-integers are rounded properly (eg. 5,6 becomes 6; 10,2 becomes 10),
- although I'm not sure how the game handles x,5.
- 777 HP
- - The main issue with 777 is that Sarah joins so late that your max HP
- figures are likely too high. What I recommend is that you keep Faize
- below Lv27 until Sarah joins. You need to keep him knocked out during
- your time on Roak or he'll exceed that from quest/harvesting xp. His
- mHP is 2490 at Lv26, so you just equip a Power Bracelet and heal by 30%.
- 7777 HP
- - Meracle has 25 763 HP at Lv85. Drop that by 1000 (Star Ruby + Ruby),
- then just use a 31% heal.

- Area Notes A03
- ---- Aeos - Part 1 ----
- Items of note:
- Recipe Memo 05 | Calnus - Recreational Area
- Calnus
- - You can get Recipe Memo 05 from an NPC after hitting Aeos. You can't get
- it anymore after taking down the boss.
- Landing Site
- - If this is your first time, spend some time figuring out Edge's different
- normal attacks. Like I said, it's vital that you learn how to chain into
- his uppercut floater (tilt in the enemy's direction + attack at point blank
- range). Just input the command during one of the regular short range attacks.
- You can do it from any of the hits in Edge's 3-hit combo, giving you three
- possible float points. If the enemy is close to Rushing, you'll want to float
- them before they go into Rush.
- - It's pretty easy to end up doing the point blank attack unintentionally
- when you attack as you approach an enemy. You just need to become conscious
- of it to avoid it.
- - Careful with the bees. If there are more than two of them, they can easily
- stunlock you.
- - If you see a Rushing enemy going after Reimi, you should take control of
- her or she'll likely end up taking severe damage. Setting her to Beat B lets
- her tank more damage.
- - On higher difficulty levels, you'll need to spend a fair amount of time
- increasing your BEAT levels. Monster jewels can help a lot, but I'd stick
- to the more reasonable ones (eg. Cursed Horror, Blue Eagle).
- - The base odds for the Harvesting and Mining items add up to 100%, meaning
- you'll always get *something* (so long as you have space for it). A roll is
- made between 1 and 100, and each item has a certain range on that scale.
- Using the list below as an example, rolling a number between 1-6 would give
- you an Insect Egg, whereas rolling 83-100 would give you Blueberries. Even
- at Lv1, you already get two rolls, so the base odds aren't really accurate.
- With two rolls, the odds of getting something with a base rate of 18% are
- about 33% (1 - 0,82 * 0,82). With six rolls, at Lv10, it's 70%.
- - Leveling up Harvesting/Mining also increases the amount of xp you receive
- from harvesting (double at Lv10).
- - If you can't carry the item(s) you receive, you won't get any xp or SP.
- - Can't do anything about the Mining spots until Bacchus joins.
- - You'll see the number of procurement points in a given location in brackets
- (regular + hidden). When you're standing on / facing a hidden one, you'll
- get a Confirm prompt to reveal it. I wouldn't waste too much time searching
- for them, at least not when the items aren't that useful. There's one behind
- a tree near the first mining point.

- Northern Coast
- - You'll fight the boss when you approach the marker on the beach.
- - Some of the bosses in SO4 have a weak spot you need to target in order
- to deal good damage. Eg. the first boss has a weak spot on its right side,
- although it's initially protected by armor. The AI characters aren't smart
- enough to target these weak spots, so it's best to set them on manual and
- go one-on-one with the boss using Edge.
- - The notes on bosses are mostly found in the enemy list.

- - Pickled Plum x5 - Silver x4 * *: Need to come back

- - Reimi leaves the party for a little while here.
- - Once Reimi returns, you can get a side quest from Fez at the skill shop.
- Complete that and the Sand Bird quests that becomes available later, and
- you'll be able to buy No Guard at the shop.
- - Jasmine's first three quests also become available when Reimi rejoins.
- Her place is on the east side of town. The quests require you to deliver:
- 10x Fresh Sage, 9x Bee Stinger, and 13x Wool. Two additional quests will
- become available later, and completing those lets you create Edge's best
- main game weapon.
- - The first quest gives you two Ultimate Bombs as a reward. Synthing one
- gives you the 'HP damage +35%' factor, but, as already mentioned, this
- only affects normal attacks.
- - The colosseum won't be open until you've completed the story events on
- Roak (+ two side quests).
- - You can now start making Regeneration Symbols (2 Light Gem, 4 Holy Water,
- 4 Light Paint, Neck Chain).

- - Myuria joins the party at Lv32 (788 SP). Pass her Alchemist's Cloak to
- Lymle (unless you're actually using her).
- - Your party is fully healed during one of the events in Tropp. You'll
- need to knock out Faize again to keep him under Lv27.
- - No need to farm Aluminum for the Composite Bow. You'll find a better
- one in Purge Shinden.
- - If you farm 8 Coal to create 4 Steel, you can create a Deadly Cannon.
- You'll also need a Micro Hadron Collider, and you can conveniently find
- one in the Purgatorium.
- - Farm at least one Faerie Embroidery Thread, so you can create a Mirage
- Robe (161 DFP, 25% no damage, [40% fog res.]). If you get two more, you
- can create a Faerie Band (2 Velvet Ribbon, 2 FET, 1 Biocloth), a wrist
- accessory with 2% MP regen, but it's hardly worth it, since Regeneration
- Symbols are so much easier to make. The HQ version also has a max MP +20
- factor, but you do *not* want that.
- - Synthing Mirage Robes is one of the easier ways to get '25% no damage'
- on your armor. Recommended for at least melee fighters. The easiest way
- is to synth a Blue Ranger Jewel, but you might not have access to those.
- - Don't forget that the special -ology drops require that the character
- with the skill is actually part of your active party.

- - Use the Runic Metal to create a Volcanic Gear (454 DFP, Bacchus), which
- is unlocked by the memo you find on B2. If you don't mind the hike, you
- *could* go back and create it before the boss, but that shouldn't be
- necessary. You can also use Runic Metal to create an Icecrusher Sword
- (291, Water), but I wouldn't recommend that, seeing as you can soon get
- a Mithril Sword (590 ATP).
- - Tamiel has a nasty ATP boost factor that you can only temporarily
- disable with Void.
- - Sarah joins the party once you return to your ship and depart for another
- planet (Lv32, 700 SP). Don't level up her healing spells if you're going
- for all BTs.
- - With Synthesis now available, you might want to create some Exp-boosting
- gear using Oyakodon and Curry Rice. You can synth those on weapons for
- Exp +20% and accessories for Exp +15%. There's also a junk factor, so
- each one takes two slots. Even so, this stuff will easily put you at a
- higher level than intended, especially if you farm for IC gear, but it
- does help with the post-game.
- - Synth an accessory with Crit+ for Bacchus (eg. Silver Bangle + Mana Yeti).
- - Synth an accessory that grants immunity to Silence and Paralysis for
- your healer. Use the empty slots for other immunities (such as Freeze)
- or just an xp boost. I'd go with the xp.
- - Don't bother creating too many Perfect Berries, Resurrection Elixirs,
- or Stimulants. You can just buy those fairly soon.
- - Create a Traveler's Cloak for Ruddle. You already got the maps, right?
- - There are some new side quests and visiting Aeos unlocks Lias's quests.
- You're free to leave Aeos at any time, so just drop by and then come back.
- - The most significant quests to complete would be the ones involving
- the Sand Bird (2 quests, Retired Explorer - Tropp / Astral Desert),
- Ruddle (3 quests, Tropp), the Colosseum (2 quests, Tatroi / Astral),
- and the Astral Caves (2 quests, Lias - Astral).
- - Once the Sand Bird is taken care of, you'll be able to move about the
- desert without needing a bunny. This also ties into two other quests
- (Fez and Ruddle). Once Ruddle has reached Tatroi, you'll gain access to
- his wares.
- Astral Caves
- - This is the only optional dungeon available in the main game. Talk to
- Lias in Astral and complete his first quest, Ogre Battling, to gain access.
- - Find the wounded soldier on B2. You need to start his quest before you
- turn in Rumble in the Caves, otherwise you'll miss it.
- - The boss is on B3. He's nothing to worry about. Use a boulder to open
- the south entrance afterwards. Charge your rings in Tatroi.
- - Use the minerals you find here to make a Flame Rune Mail for Edge if
- you're using him (3 Runic Metal, 2 Bracteate, 8 Fire Gems)(302 DFP). The
- HQ version only has 10 more DFP and 2 more Fire res.

- Soldiers in 8 waves (1+2, 0+3, 0+4, 1+3, 1+3, 0+4, 1+4, 2+3). The only
- reason it gives people so much trouble is because of the two factors the
- Phantom Leaders have: ATP&Int +50% and DFP +100%. The last battle is the
- toughest one, as there are two of them, likely bringing your base damage
- down to minimum. If you can only do decent damage with criticals and magic,
- things could get rather tricky. Having No Guard makes a big difference, as
- do Berserk and synthing Mirage Robes. Give your melee fighters Anti-Stun
- Amulets.

- - The first area is kind of annoying to traverse. To get up the cliffs,
- you have to ride the spheres, and it might take a while to catch one.
- Once you're inside, you'll start ascending slowly and you need to press
- Confirm at the right height to successfully scale the cliff. If you're
- too early or too late, you fall back down.
- - You could now create the Darkstriker (685), Reimi's strongest main game
- weapon (aside from the Laser Weapon), but it's Dark-elemental. You can't
- use it here.

- Halls of Termination
- - This area features crystals that generate an anti-magic field that
- has the same effect as Silence. You can destroy the crystals with the
- Earth Ring, but I'd save your charges. Besides, they respawn when you
- leave. Just try to lure the enemies outside of the field.
- - The Dark Raptor is the nastiest magehunter around, since they're
- fast and mostly use ranged attacks. If you get a pincer or surround
- attack, definitely start off with Taunt+Hide.
- - Get two Red Dragon Scales for the Bigfoot's Claws (1200\1210 ATP).
- You could also use them to create a Red Dragon Mail (990\1019), the
- strongest main game heavy armor, but if you already got a Laser Suit,
- don't bother.
- - You'll need a Star Sapphire to create a Quadplex Scythe (920\963).
- It's not a huge improvement over the Laser Scythe and it doesn't have
- the Crit factor. Use it to create a Fully Tuned Plate instead (888).
- The HQ version has 910 DFP, but also comes with a useless HP +40 factor.
- - There's a save point right next to one of the mining points, so you
- can easily get a sapphire using that (just reload if you don't get one)

- - The (actual) final dungeon consists of nine areas that can be rather
- difficult to travel between.
- - The chests blend in with the walls in the indoors areas, so if you're
- not relying on Treasure Sense, you need to be thorough.
- - The Thunderbolt Gear might give Bacchus higher DFP than a Laser Suit,
- but if you already customized it, just stick to that.
- - If you haven't been doing IC, the Vulcan Discharger is a nice upgrade
- for Bacchus. It's Thunder-elemental, but that won't be much of an issue.
- - The only save point here is the final save point in the final area.
- The final area also has a transporter that can take you back to your
- ship. This is *one-way* only.
- - After fighting the Apostle, you'll find yourself in a space-like
- environment with a bunch of crystals. The light in the distance is your
- goal. There's a path for you to walk on, but the path is windy, with a
- number of splits, and you can only see the ground immediately around you.
- Combined with a disabled in-game map, things can easily get confusing.
- To further complicate things, there are five crystals scattered about
- the paths, and if you approach one, you'll trigger a (likely unwanted)
- re-fight with one of the five Grigoris, now with updated stats. There's
- no need to fight them. Here's a crude map:

- - The ending is about 45-60 minutes depending on how many character
- endings you get. At the end, you're asked to add clear data status to
- your save file. Doing so allows you to fight the Undying Dragon in the
- room opposite the transporter room. Beat him to get the Darkness Ring.

- - The Seven Star Cave is the first of two post-game dungeons. While found
- in the same location - accessible from the Tatoroi arena, provided you have
- the Darkness Ring - it bears no resemblance to its original SO1 incarnation.
- - Beat the boss(es) on each level (minus B4) to gain access to the next
- level. I recommend fighting the 4 + 0 Rangers seven times, so you can get
- their monster jewels (beat them, save to a different slot, then load and
- beat them again).
- - The bees here are nasty magehunters. Don't let them gang up on your healer.
- - Dupe the Moonstone to get more of it. Don't use up your last one.
- - On B5, you fight the first trio of shadow PCs: Reimi, Arumat, and Sarah.
- Each PC has a BT for killing their own shadow. These aren't missable. Scan
- Enemy works on them, so that helps.
- - On B7, you'll obtain the Star Dipper. Use it to collect a star (marked
- on your map) on each level, and you can fight Gabe in the Inner Sanctum.
- You can refight him anytime. You don't have to collect the stars again.
- Beating him also makes the other bosses respawn.
- - Completing the 7SC lets you access the second post-game dungeon. Just
- talk to the NPC in the Old Road to the Sanctuary on En Il.

- - What... the f*ck?
- - The Wandering Dungeon is the single worst dungeon I've ever experienced
- in an RPG. Nothing else even comes close. Without Hololive, it would've
- driven me insane.
- - The dungeon consists of 30 randomly generated levels, with an increasing
- average room count, starting from ~6. Near B20, you can expect levels with
- 20-35 rooms. The rooms are small, and there's a 2,2s loading time whenever
- you move between them. This is the most aggravating aspect about the whole
- dungeon. It's either that, or the fact that there are *no* save points, and
- you always have to start over from B1 if you leave.
- - The 2017 version has much faster loading times, apparently.
- - The items you find in containers here are random as well and they don't
- give you any points.
- - Santa has a chance of appearing on lower levels. His shop orders consist
- of all seven stat boost seeds (regular variety) and 10x Fermented Sushi.
- - On each floor, there's an emergency exit in the room you start at and
- a locked portal that takes you to the next floor. On odd-numbered floors,
- unlocking the portal has one of three possible requirements:
- 1. Geostones: You need to feed the portal a bunch of Geostones. These
- are -ology drops from most of the enemies in the dungeon, and you might
- get a few from containers as well. The drop rates for these are unusually
- high (25-30%), so farming them is easy so long as you have the appropriate
- character in your party. If you meet the quota, the portal takes all the
- Geostones you have.
- 2. Crystals: You need to use your RoDs to destroy all the different colored
- crystals on the floor. Typically the most time-consuming of the three.
- You might miss some of the dark crystals if you mistake them for enemies.
- Some of the enemies can drop Disintegration Stones.
- 3. Assassins: Fight a series of encounters with all the possible enemies
- in this region of the dungeon.
- - On even-numbered floors, the portal asks for a Seraphic Doll, which is
- obtained by defeating the boss on that floor. The bosses can only appear
- in rooms that are dead ends.
- - If you could handle Gabe, most of the bosses should give you no trouble.
- Armaros Manifest on B10 is a bit of a handful, and the battle can stretch
- on if you don't pull off enough blindsides. Nothing competes with what
- awaits you on B20, however. Ethereal Queen makes everything else look
- absolutely trivial in comparison. She can easily wipe out your entire
- party, including reserve members, with a single attack, that attack being
- Super Nova. Unless you have a solid game plan, with your whole party at
- Lv255, you need to pull out on B19. You do *not* want to spend 6+ hours
- going through the dungeon only to get obliterated by EQ and lose everything.
- --------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Enemy Move List
- - There are 39 enemy families (and 9 boss families, who aren't included).
- The enemies within the same family don't always use all of the physical
- attacks listed, and some actions may involve an HP threshold. Elements
- and ailments can also vary as do the odds of using each move. Elemental
- attacks are generally easy to recognize either by their name, appearance,
- or both.
- - Attack names that are in brackets don't have a (visible) official name.
- Some of the ones with official names vary depending on the element/ailment.
- - No idea how damage is calculated for draining attacks, but it easily falls
- down to 10-15 pod.
- - The enemies in the Seven Star Cave have double damage multipliers compared
- to the other enemies in their respective families, and the enemies in the
- Wandering Dungeon have triple.

- - Dual Kick is so fast it can easily catch you off-guard. It also has
- a high critical hit rate multiplier. Avoid it by moving towards them,
- specifically towards their right side, from your point of view. Left
- side works too, but right side seems a little better. Do *not* try to
- move away from them if they're already close to you.
