- Recently, Gifvex and Entrpntr and maybe some other people discovered a way to consistently get the same nidoran stats, 0 mt. moon encounters (in certain places) and perfect trash cans, by hard resetting, buffering inputs through the intro, and buffering inputs until the desired RNG outcome has occurred. I believe this technique may have some uses in Catch 'em all.
- This theoretically allows the manipulation of rare encounters, such as weedle and tauros, as well as possibly guaranteeing a good master ball quantity, and maybe even a useful TID item.
- From the discord, saving+reseting, then loading the save with this method takes ~23s, and catching an encounter takes ~16s, so catching a pokemon using this method should take at least 40s, since it is unlikely the RNG will work out perfectly. Since this is only a little faster than some LGs, this seems not very useful, however...
- Since we already save and reset as part of an LG, if we do this manip after an LG, we only lose the extra time for a hard reset. (Not sure on exact time, have heard 5-7s) This saves 16-18 seconds over the above timing, which makes this much more worthwhile. This will make encountering rare encounters much easier, though still slower than randomly encountering, or dsuming from a regular caught pokemon, but is significantly faster than performing an LG.
- Since (for now) we only care about the pokemon's species, it shouldn't be too hard to map out paths for this.
- Below is a list of pokemon it may be worth using this technique with
- Koffing (Saves an LG)
- Weezing (Can crazywarp/TP for a koffing in Vroad, but would require Chansey
- Tauros (Saves an LG, would require frame perfectly clearing the Tauros appeared textbox)
- Other safari encounters (Adds consistency, should be faster than LGs)
- Tentacool (Level 30, would require a setup like saving in water, bonk left for 15 bonks, then right)
- Coast encounters (Could possibly skip super repels, or swicthing leads)
- Chansey (Allows Koffing crazywarp)
- Drowsee/Sandshrew (likely only worth it after an LG, and even then as a backup)
- Jigglypuff (Some LGs may get moved away from route 3)
- Weedle (Saves an LG)
- Gastly (Just to guarantee not cubone, likely not worth)
- Tangela+Pidgeotto (Would want to move some LGs to this route)
- Note that the above list assumes we continue with the current route. It may end up being worth it to visit other areas to catch rare encounters.
- Other potential uses include:
- Manipulating Super rod encounters (Likely involves from perfect textbox clearing)
- Manipulating a specific special stat from an encounter for trainer fly (slow)
- Manipulating deathfly (just no, we need abra, we need coin case, we need money)
- Route changes that would make this nicer:
- Earlier TMTrainer item, would allow LGs and fast manips to be done in mansion, and maybe safari zone.
- Juggling the LGs around, ideally we have 1 for every rare encounter we plan to manipulate.
