  1. Q: What is Gwent?
  2. A: Gwent: The Witcher Card Game is a multiplayer collectible card game based on the mini-game featured in The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt. It's free-to-play with optional micro-transactions.
  3.
  4. Q: What is Thronebreaker?
  5. A: Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales is a stand-alone RPG in which battles are played out via Gwent matches against an AI opponent. It costs 30 USD (or your regional equivalent).
  6.
  7. Q: Do I need Thronebreaker to play Gwent (or vice versa)? Do I get anything in Gwent for buying Thronebreaker?
  8. A: Thronebreaker and Gwent are separate products, and you need not play one in order to play the other. However, purchasing Thronebreaker grants you immediate access to the standard versions of 20 Thronebreaker-themed cards in Gwent. These cards do not appear in kegs and can only be crafted with scraps otherwise. The premium versions of these cards can only be acquired by purchasing Thronebreaker, and you must find them scattered throughout the world in hidden chests. Similarly, there are Gwent profile avatars and borders which can only be acquired by finding them in Thronebreaker.
  9.
  10. Q: How does this new version of Gwent compare to the original Witcher 3 mini-game?
  11. A: The core structure is basically the same. Each player draws ten cards and plays one card each turn; the objective is to amass more power than your opponent in two out of three rounds. Beyond that, almost everything has changed. Essentially every unit now has an ability, each player's board now contains two rows instead of three, and the game has received a complete visual overhaul.
  12.
  13. Q: Is Gwent pay-to-win?
  14. A: Not really. In fact, Gwent is one of the most generous free-to-play card games available. Playing matches (especially in ranked mode) will earn you plenty of the materials needed to craft cards and buy card kegs. Spending money on card kegs will allow you to craft competitive decks more quickly, but it's quite feasible to to achieve a complete collection without ever spending a dime.
  15.
  16. Q: Are any of the packs worth buying?
  17. A: Spending money in Gwent isn't necessary. Only the $5 starter pack is arguably worth the money.
  18.
  19. Q: Which card should I pick from this keg?
  20. A: For epic and rare drops, feel free to post a screenshot of your options in this thread, and we'll help you out. In general, neutral cards are more valuable to you as a new player since they can be used in any deck. When in doubt, choose the premium (animated) card if you have the option.
  21.
  22. Q: Which cards should I craft as a new player?
  23. A: Versatile, neutral golds are your safest bet since you can use them in any deck. Some options worth considering are Geralt: Igni, Regis, and Sihil.
