BM&F Bovespa was formed in 2008 when São Paulo Stock Exchange (Bovespa) merged with the Brazilian Mercantile and Futures Exchange (BM&F). The stock exchange is located in São Paulo. In 2011, it was the 13th largest stock exchange in the world as it had a market capitalization of R$2.37 Trillion. A slump in the economic growth, influenced by political instabilities in Brazil along with the strengthening of the US Dollar against the Brazilian Real, led to the capitalization shrinking from R$2.37 Trillion to R$2.21 Trillion by the end of 2015. The Indice Bovespa is the benchmark indicator of BM&F Bovespa.

This is a government owned mint administratively subordinated to the Ministry of Finances from Brasil. The mint was founded in 1694 and is currently headquartered in Rio De Janeiro in a sprawling 110,000 square meters plant. Casa Da Moeda Do Brasil produces all the circulating coins and banknotes for the Government of Brazil. It also mints medals and security prints like passports, subway tokens, postage stamps, which are issued and used by government-run service providers. The Brazilian Mint has the most superior technology and production capacity among all the South American mints. The mint also produced legal tender coins, currencies, and passports for other South American countries, as well as African countries, until 1980.

TAX ON PRECIOUS METALS IN BRAZIL:
The Sistema Financeiro Nacional, (National Financial System), under the approval of the Central Bank of Brazil, charges the IOF (Imposto Sobre Operacoes Financeiras), which is a tax levied on financial operations, also applied to precious metals sales and purchases.

The IOF rate is 1% of the purchase price. In the case of precious metals coming from abroad, the equivalent of the purchase price in the national currency is determined based on the domestic market value on the day of customs clearance.
