- I didn't wanna clog feeds with the 10 likes or whatever I get, so here's the list. I'll add as people <3 my post
- 1) Brave Fencer Musashi
- I don't think this is a huge secret. I'm fairly certain it's eclipsed #2 as my favorite game of all time. The voice acting is hilarious, and I really enjoy the gameplay. I stumbled onto this game in 1998 while reading through a Game Pro magazine. There was a full page ad with some screenshots and game description and of course the big seller was the FFVIII demo disc. I didn't even care about that. Musashi has it all. A kooky story that is told well with a twist at the end, memorable charcters, options with combat, RPG leveling elements, and collectibles. Can't wait to jump back on this.
- 2) Final Fantasy IV
- Where do I begin. This game was LONG on top of my list as favorite game of all time without hesitation. The story is amazing and the gameplay is, to me, what an RPG should consist of. I'd beaten this game 32 times casually prior to beginning to speed run it in 2013. Unfortunately, I think speed running kind of lessened this game for me although I still love it. I was introduced to this game in 1991 by my neighbor, Treg. He was a year older than me and the two of us often would get lost in RPGs during our summers for years to come. I was always a huge fan of Cid and Kain and that still rings true to this day. I'm sure the community longs for the day I return Kappa
- 3) Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2
- What a fucking game. I was in love with the first THPS but I feel like this game really signified what a skateboarding title should be and the possibility of linking together combos with a manual was huge. I remember this game being released exclusively on PC as a demo and you could play Marsilles, France. It was extremely awkward at the time because playing games like that on a keyboard was relatively new, especially to me. I still went hard on it until I figured it out and was briefly on top of the leaderboards with 300 some thousands points.
- 4) Super Mario Bros. 3
- Love this game. Still love it. Probably the game I remember on the NES most, not only because it was amazing but because I played it so much with my older sister. The first time I saw this game was when we went and saw "The Wizard" in the movie theater. I couldn't wait until it was released and we could see if the infamous warp whistle was actually real. Oh boy was it. Shortly after it was released my sister and our neighbor Demian started what we called the, "Nintendo Club." We decided we were all good at games and should write guides for them. SMB3 was the only game we actually did it for and the only thing I remember was that it was done on red construction paper because Mario's shirt was red.
- 5) Final Fantasy IX
- I actually didn't play this game until a few years ago. I rented it during it's time of release but played for roughly one hour before giving it up. I'm so glad I went back to it. Easily the best PS era Final Fantasy, it really encompasses what a good role playing game is. Huge cast of memorable characters, awesome side quests, AMAZING music, and an excellent story. Buy this shit on Steam!
- 6) Guitar Hero III
- Can't tell you how many countless hours I poured into this game. I wouldn't consider myself top tier at all, but anyone who has seen me play can vouch for me being well above average. Amazing memories from my early 20's with roommates and friends partying and playing through all hours of the night. Unfortunately Ashley's memories aren't as pleasant as mine lol
- 7) Mega Man 2
- Need I really say more? The music, the bosses, the wily stages. The quintessential Mega.
- 8) Parasite Eve
- This game is so underrated it's fucking criminal. The story is told so well that it still holds up today and the first cinematic RPG really delivered. Aya is a great main and the complex story of mitochondria that had me hooked as a child still brings me back. Let's not forget the ng+ mode being legendary with the Chrysler Building.
- 9) Link's Awakening
- No, not DX. Back in my day we didn't have fancy colors on our Gameboy and we fucking liked it. I got this game the day it was released and played it non-stop with my buddy Mike. We would scour Koholint Island for the secrets of the windfish on the playground and after school at his house. One of the few carts I still have from my childhood, complete with 4th grade initials intact. My favorite Zelda game.
- 10) Resident Evil 2
- I can remember when this game was released. I was in 6th grade and it was ALL anyone could talk about. I had played and beaten the first game but was a little disappointed with it. I felt like the horror elements were great but wanted more action. RE2, in my mind, had delivered that. The city scene was a great place for the outbreak and the introduction of new characters was fantastic. They don't hold up that well now but the graphics blew my mind and I was in love from the very beginning. Another game on my long list of stuff I want to speed run one day.
- 11) Conker's Bad Fur Day
- I had the pleasure of playing this game when it first came out and was certainly NOT disappointed. Essentially every game so far on the list I got a chance to play through with my buddy Lance. We laughed until our stomachs hurt and the gameplay was pretty damn sick too. A classic N64 platformer collect-o-thon. Recommended a play through to everyone.
- 12) Solar Striker
- Such a great game on Gameboy and my first real introduction to shmups. I used to play the shit out of this and loved every second of it. My grandpa bought it for me at random from an electronics store because he liked the cover. So glad he did.
- 13) Super Mario RPG
- I don't really know that there is much that needs to be said here. What a collaboration that shook the gaming landscape at the time. For us Western RPG fans it was finally some much needed support in the community and everyone was abuzz. I can remember playing the game well into the summer of 96 as I finally got the super suit and we ecstatic to get the lazy shell items. My neighbor who was a couple years older than me and a good friend came rushing downstairs in my parents home and proclaimed, "Dude! You have to stop playing this game. We need you for wiffle ball!" I didn't realize he had called hours before and they were waiting for me to start the game. Good times.
