  3. Comment: If you remember my last submission, this is another contestant from that spanish talent reality show, this time it's the third place of that edition. Never liked her, hate her singing style hate her looks hate her voice she was overrated AF didnt deserve top 10 at all. However when this song came out and I wanted to trash it I kinda liked it? it's so messy and imo an objectively bad song but I'm messy and so is the song and thats 1+1.

  8. Comment: Wowww, another big surprise :) Well, Paradise Lost is out officially now and having constant access to the album stream really made a positive difference in my life 😂 I first heard and fell in love with “Mainsail” over a year ago from a live recording taken in September 2019. <https://youtu.be/V230eeH71kM?t=1683> I was super drawn to the beat and the escapist lyrics that I could hardly make out lol. I listened to this live recording and another one from the same tour hundreds of times in the last year without even knowing what the song was called. I asked John on one of his Q&As if he would tell us the title and he would not; I didn’t know the title until close to the album release date when his manager posted a video of the vinyl. I was able to get a very blurry cap of the lyrics on the sleeve, and from that image I could tell where the line breaks were so after listening to the song one more time counting the lines it didn’t take long to figure it out. :) Still didn’t scrobble it though because I didn’t want sus scrobbles. LOL. I got the vinyl like a week later and listening to the studio version for the first time was a life changing experience fr. John’s voice sounds so lovely and the synths sound new and fresh for him but this is still warmly familiar as a Brothertiger song.
  9.
  10. A running thread through Paradise Lost is John’s breakup with NYC, esentially, and “Mainsail” is one of the more explicit songs in this category (“Could you recognize my face? / In a crowded room, I wait / Living in the empire state / I’m lost sometimes”). The rest of the song is a bit of an escapist fantasy about dropping everything for the opean sea and going for a little sailing trip. I interpret the sailing literally and metaphorically since he really loves water metaphors of all kind lol. John said this song was inspired by some fans at a show in Texas who told him they were going sailing soon and his music would be their soundtrack. I think if I ever get the chance to meet him I gotta tell him something corny so he writes a song about it 😂 Anyway, “Mainsail” is a perfect and imo romantic little fantasy and I love it so much <3 <3 clearly! Oh and here’s John admitting to never actually having gone sailing before <https://imgur.com/a/fBrWCZC>

  14. Submitted by: @moth#4010 / 120 scrobbles
  15. Comment: In my mind Døves and Wicca Phase are absolutely carrying this song, with a bonus Lil Peep feature, but nonetheless I love all 3 artists, and as always Døves lyrics hit hard & are super relatable for me.

  18. 4. Bring Me the Horizon - Obey (with YUNGBLUD)
  19. Submitted by: Chlo / 101 scrobbles
  20. Comment: Sneaking a late sub be like!!!
  21.
  22. New release moment. BMTH's newest song, Obey, talks about a generation (ours) that keeps getting told to conform to an image of the "perfect world" that is completely different to what they believe in by older generations; featured artist YUNGBLUD mentioned that they're telling older generations to have a lovely day, "cos tomorrow we're coming to get ya."
  23.
  24. BMTH vocalist Oli Sykes compared this song to the current world situation of being in lockdown and having to trust the government (or a higher body of leadership), and as he said it himself, "people aren't telling us the truth." But despite singing about relatively serious themes -- corruption, stress from quarantine, and possibly ||self-harm|| specifically done to please others -- the music is really *fun.* The video is really *fun.* Even the artists themselves really looked like they were having a lot of fun making this too in a behind-the-scenes video that they released. I'm not quite sure how to put it into words. This song has not failed to make me at least bop a little each and every time I listen to it, hah. I hope you'll enjoy this!
  25.
  26. ~~The music video is also extra fun, inspired by Japanese characters Godzilla and Power Rangers, and the movie Pacific Rim. But the sexual tension is so intense that it's almost palpable, and it's hilarious to me :joy: Do watch it when you have the time to!~~

  31. Comment: *through tears* Oh man this song. This month I started listening to IU and instantly fell in love with this song. The instrumentals on itself are already beautiful, and the vocals just make it 10 times better. I may not understand the lyrics but damn IU delivers the lyrics in a way that I feel this hard.

  47. Submitted by: Else / 48 scrobbles
  48. Comment: Death got me into Giles Corey last summer (thank you for that). This is my favourite track on the album that I have continued to binge for a few months now. The emotion in this track and the buildup towards the end is what makes this track so good for me.
  49.
  50. Also winter sucks so only broody tracks for me from now on. 👍🏻

  60. Comment: I really like the album, and this song in particular really have that calming and soothing effect for me personally when I went through a quite heavy anxiety attack. And in the end, we're all just trying acting our best-selves in this charade that we called life, whether you execute it well or fail miserably. But the most important thing is that you "tried" and know, and learn from it.

  76. Comment: So I listened the entire discography of Cattle Decapitation and I ended up loving this track which is my favourite song of my favourite album of them, I think 20 times is not that much but I don't repeat songs that much to be honest when I'm doing discog runs

  98.
  99. "Doris" is the first single from her upcoming album which seems to be as amazing as her first one if this single is any indicator and it's probably gonna end up as one of my fav albums this year. :relieved:
  100. At least musically 2020 is pretty amazing.
  101.
  102.
  103. *Speaking about the new song, Laure says, “Δωρίς, Doris, the Nereids’ mother, one of the creatures harmonizing the strings of the Ocean. I needed all this inspiring mythological imagery to express the several movements of the earth’s souls, supported by the tribal drums of Sylvain Bouvier, textured by the awesome guitars from Eran Segal, and conducted by the strings of celloist, Raphael Verguin. Doris is like the post apocalyptic breathing of the earth, the last cries of the vegetal/animal and human reign, that Travis Ryan expresses so well in this track… I will let you discover how and when!”*

  107. 17. Deftones - Urantia
  108. Submitted by: deathconscious / 18 scrobbles
  109. Comment: Deftones is, as some of you know, my most scrobbled artist of all-time and I feel safe to call them one of my favourite artists. However, my Deftones scrobbles took a break in the middle of 2017 with a little bit of listening in 2018 and barely any in 2019. Now, with the release of the new album Ohms Deftones went up a fair amount again, finally breaking the 9k barrier.
  110.
  111. I decided to choose the song Urantia for the submission as I felt it was the most fair, Genesis and Ohms have more plays that this one, but it's only because they were released as singles and Urantia shows my Ohms (album) scrobbles fairly well. The 18 scrobbles were only since 25th September when the album was released, so the number could have been much higher if October started couple days later. I love the synthy and guitar-heavy tracks on it, even though none of the tracks particularly stand out. It's a very consistently good album. I like to think it is made for people who were already fans of their music and don't mind listening to their full albums (over and over) which is how Ohms should really be listened to (well, like any album, though I find myself coming back to Gore only for its highlights like Hearts/Wires and Phantom Bride).

  114. 18. Hether - When U Loved Me
  115. Submitted by: Dorian Gay / 16 scrobbles
  116. Comment: I found this band randomly this month while looking for new stuff. The repeated guitar lick and the drum production are super infectious to me. Since the weather's been nice Here in Brooklyn, I've been trying to go for walks every so often and so this song has soundtracked lots of leisurely strolls to get coffee this month. Sure, it kinda sounds like just another Mac-Demarco-wannabe band, but anyone who knows me knows that I love to **chill** and this is chillin' music. 😎

  119. 19. 1914 - A7V Mephisto
  120. Submitted by: overr / 15 scrobbles
  121. Comment: I avoided these guys for the longest time because, well, they're a war-obsessed Ukrainian black metal band that frequently talks about the German side, I thought for sure they had some nazi ties. Then I found out that they were signed to Napalm Records (a record label that's wayyyy too big and clean to tolerate sketchiness), so I looked further, and found this section from an interview:
  122.
  123. "I even receive a letter with words like this – song about German soldiers with iron crosses, why? Are you a Nazi band? What could I say? Just no, it`s about human nature, Homo sapiens behavior, history, and war. **And – fuck Nazis and all kind of totalitarian shitheads.**"
  124.
  125. With that out of the way, I decided to check out the album and totally fell in love. This song best sums up why. It's a doomier track but has bursts of intensity that fit very well with the context of the music. I particularly love how dramatic the vocals are. It's just fantastic all around and I'm kicking myself for not doing my own research on this band earlier rather than immediately jumping to conclusions.
  126.
  127. [for those wondering, this song in particular is about the German A7V tank named "Mephisto" that broke down and was later captured by Allied powers. It now sits in a museum in Brisbane.]

  142. Submitted by: dream / 6 scrobbles
  143. Comment: My most scrobbled track in Sept was also Jess' birthday submission (and still only had 15 plays) so I feel like I get a pass for not subbing that :p Plus I thought it'd be a nice change of pace to add a more accessible song instead. I'm still sad that Twin Shadow couldn't play at a festival I attended few years back due to illness, Caer is actually underrated imo and this is just a lovely tune

  148. Comment: I liked this song the most when I listened to Apparitions for my red chart, beginning is so evil and evokes something primal in me, later becomes just a pure angrysad emotion.
