- Red Buffers you should always do:
- Fight Menu buffer: Quite possibly the easiest in all of red. Just Hold A after the textboxes are finished and you'll buffer. Be cautious about it instant text, since if the last button you pushed was A, you are unable to fight menu buffer. Also, if going to an adjacent move slot, (i.e. 1 to 4, 2 to 3, 1 to 2, etc.) You can buffer A -> Up -> A or A -> Down -> A.
- Item buffers while fighting.
- Slot 1: Hold Down + A, reapply the A and let go of down. Pretty simple.
- Slot 2: Hold Down + A, then reapply without letting go of down (cannot use Up)
- Slot 3: This one is more tricky. Hold Down + A to open items, then once you see cursor, do Down + A (need to let go of down after opening items, then do the Down + A.)
- Select works the same way. (For when swapping on Ghost menu, is the main example.) Use the slot 3 buffer with Down + Select instead of Down + A in this case, though.
- Item buffers while menuing:
- Slot 1: Once you open Item, just reapply the A like in fights.
- Slot 2: There are 2 ways to buffer this that I know of. You can either hold Down + A that you used to open Items, then let just spam A, or you can hold the Down + A you used to open items then use a reapply button (again, cannot be up.)
- Slot 3: Just like in fights.
- Select: You can buffer select inputs into slot 1 or 2 (Slot 3 requires a Double Input of Down + Select). Slot 1 is just holding select after opening items, and slot 2 is holding Down + Select.
- Shopping:
- Potion Buy: After hitting "Buy" I buffer Down + A to go to slot 2 instantly. You can do a similar thing to buffer Pokeball buy with any reapply button.
- Fast Scroll buys: When buying most items, you want to fast scroll to them. The easiest way to do this is to simply hold Down during the textbox where the guy tries to talk to you after you hit "Buy"
- You can also do the same buffers when selling.
- Menu close: This one is more important than you think.
- After using a potion/super potion, you want to hold B while the HP bar is going up to buffer getting out of that screen, then use a reapply button to close the item menu, then hit Start to close the menu entirely. (Note, if you want to heal then use an item (like Candy before Agatha) then Hold B + the direction to the item to buffer the potion screen to close and then fast scroll.)
- Some niche other buffers:
- I did not cover Instant Text buffers in this pastebin and I will not. BUT the textbox after you cut a tree IS instant and you should always buffer it with B (since you used A to cut you cannot buffer A)
- In intro, clear the textboxes where Oak asks your name and your rival's name with B then buffer A to buffer into the name screen. You can additionally buffer a directional input if you are to name the person a name other than A. You can also buffer this direction for naming Pokemon.
- Hold B or A during phrases that take up 2 boxes. That makes little sense, but for example. "A's defense greatly fell" after a screech. There is a delay. Hold A or B during the textboxes to be rid of this delay. (Examples include Screeches, Agilitys, also Focus Energy. (Doesn't have the same textbox thing but you want to hold B during focus energy to minimize print letter delay.)
- Lastly, this is HUGELY important throughout a run. Every single textbox with a jingle can be buffered with either A or B, so buffer them!
- The 1 exception I can think of to this rule is the "A received Pokedex" box which can only be cleared with B.
