Meryem is the daughter of a turkish german car mechanic and essentially grew up helping him around, until her burgeoining magic talent made this...inadvisable in regards to more high tech cars.

Aspect II: Yer a Wizard, Mer
Meryem found out during her teens that, for some reason, the magic talent of her grandmother had skipped a generation and she had inherited it in full. Unwilling to return to the old country, she apprenticed under a Wizard in Germany.
This has not gone well with said grandmother, a very traditional woman.

Aspect III: Opting Out of the Family Planning
Meryems Grandmother arranged her to marry a 'suitably' young Wizard from Istanbul. Said fiance was...not enticed to learn his future wife was a wrench-and-oil smeared westernized young woman who told him where to stick his wand.
