- Okay, so, problems with Mercy changes.. Aside from the fallacious reasoning behind them all which isn't too worth getting into right now..
- Her new Ulti:
- -Counters exactly nothing
- -The flight is kinda gimicky but not really necessary
- -The group heal range requires people to get clumped together making them vulnerable to Ultimates, while not healing enough to heal through Ultimates
- -A positive of her new Ultimate is that it allows her to initiate a fight or help to initiate one, the problem lies in the fact that doing so wastes the original Cooldown refresh on Resurrect that she gains from activating it, which is sacrificing a LOT of the initial impact of the Ultimate.
- -Is extremely easy for a Sombra to make Mercy's Ult have zero impact by hacking her the moment she comes activates it. (Note, I don't have a problem with Mercy having counters, be they soft or hard, but right now it's hard to find a hero that DOESN'T counter her, because all it TAKES to counter her is to watch corpses, which is not exclusive to any one Hero.)
- New Res mechanics:
- -Because of the lowered range, she must fly directly to an ally to revive them. This makes her extremely predictable and also removes a lot of the benefits of flight as you still must descend in order to reach an ally corpse.
- -Because you must fly directly to an ally, she is extremely predictable, all the enemy need do is keep an eye on the people they've killed, and who's getting either pocketed or who's making the most impact, the Mercy player will likely be reviving that person.
- -Because of the lack of Invulnerability, and the predictability, Mercy will be extremely easy to pick off for almost any character and thus countered by almost any character.
- -On top of all of that, she lights up like the sun, which means not only is she predictable, vulnerable, and a low-health hero, but she also paints a bulls-eye on her back and makes it very easy for a DPS hero to find her on the battle-field.
- -Even with the Ultimate refreshing your cooldown and shortening it, unless the enemy team is not making any big plays and isn't using any Ultimates, you're going to have more than one ally going down every 10 seconds on a regular basis. The new Ultimate may allow you to revive 4 players on paper, but that's only if there is a player for Mercy to revive, and most of the time even with a 10 second cool-down, people will have already respawned by the time she can revive another person, and will have to walk all the way back. This SEVERELY reduces her impact on the battlefield, and honestly there isn't a single thing in her new kit that makes up for that fact.
- Speaking more generally, there's not really anything about these changes that make her require more skill to play. Like, she's categorically worse now, but none of these changes actually make her any more difficult to play than she was before, they just don't enable her to have the same sort of impact.
- Now, let's talk a little bit about the players. I'll tell you, a vast majority of the people I've seen in favor of these changes are saying things like "Oh good she's gonna require skill to play now", which, for one, she's always required a high degree of game-sense to play, and two, Overwatch became popular in part (a big part) because of the fact that it had heroes who didn't require having a pixel-perfect aim to play. Meanwhile, I'm seeing extremely few players who's reaction is along the lines of "Wow Mercy looks fun to play now, I'm gonna play her!" it's pretty much all "Cool now all the Mercy players have to GOML".
- The below link also discusses a lot of the complaints about Mercy (pre-change) and debunks nearly all of them. https://us.battle.net/forums/en/overwatch/topic/20757356425?page=1
