What a gorgeous day it is outside today! So you have decided it's time to start on a simple woodworking project. Oh wait you have no more wood lying around the house. Now you have to drive to your favorite lumber yard just down the street to see if you can get some wood. You find yourself standing there between all the piles not knowing how to choose the perfect piece of wood.

Well the first thing I always do is pick up the piece of wood and visually inspect it for any inconsistencies. You are looking for fungus insects growth defects bad knots or anything else that can impede your easy woodworking project. Once you have done that the next step is to pick up the piece of wood and place it so one end is on the ground and one end is up by your face. You want to look down the wood to see if there is any bow in it. If you see any kind of curving than I would consider putting it back.
