BACKGROUND ┊

  ⅰ. soona was born on january 11th, 1994 in gwangju, south korea. she had a pretty normal childhood, and like any child going to school, it was tough; to be around new people, converse their ideas to the whole class, peer pressure — of course it would be hard, but eventually we all get through it too, and that exactly is what happened with soona after graduating elementary. she wanted a new self, including; a new image, new attitude, new traits, more confidence, and a different approach to getting to know teachers and people. she didn't "change" herself as she would say, just improvising some flaws she was insecure about like her confidence and her little knowledge about this thing called, society. she figured out that she can use her looks to her advantage to deceive others and make them feel comfortable around her with soona's angelic face and figure which she tries her best to maintain, but break their expectation when they realize she's wasn't interesting to converse with; so this leads us to soona just closing her doors with society and not bothering to socialize with others anymore — if she was forced to she'd only say little or as much as her voice can say.

  ⅱ. then, near the age of 15, she grew a new interest in music when her high school announced that there was a music festival and that they were hosting auditions for the role of representing the school. soona knew it was a large task, so she knew she had to work hard for it. she would go online and watch people do vocal and dance covers on youtube; one by one she taught herself each, except one that was important to a performer/idol, confidence. she always felt like a mess when mixed with society so she'd tries to hide her embarrassment with blunt-realistic excuses; that was how she defined the word confidence, by lacking emotion and a voice to speak. she had composed a personal song that spoke to her about her self-esteem and her flaws; she decided this was the song she wanted to sing at the auditions. at the day of the auditions soona freaked out, she wasn't sure if she could really go up on stage and sing to a group of people; she was not shy, but afraid of their comments but she still gave it a try. when performing she felt happy and relieved that she was actually singing on stage, however, she didn't make it—but at this point, she didn't care, because she earned something other than a "role", she found confidence of herself when she sung on stage, and she wanted to feel it again; so she told herself that she was going to keep singing, and try harder.

  ⅲ. soona's relationship with her family was stable, except for one; her dad. she remembered how they used to play around the house when she was little and how he taught her about the human skeleton, which always creep'd soona out; she misses the days when she was his first priority instead of his career. of course that was not her father's intention, he needed to make money for his family; and being a surgeon gave them all they needed. but soona just wanted to spend more time with her father, since he was always away.

  ⅳ. putting music aside, her studies always came first to her and her family. they've been saving up quite a lot of money for soona to attend an arts school near by ever since they attended her audition and were held speechless of how their daughter sang on stage. soona didn't struggle with the work, it was the class she was having problems with. she almost failed phys ed class because the others on her team would never give her a chance to participate. on her 16th birthday her mother and sister surprised her with an envelope with a special registration letter inside; a scholarship to attend seoul performing arts high school. the only thing is that this would cause her to move in seoul since it would be a long travel from gwangju to seoul; so her mother told her that her and her father decided to send soona and her 9 year old sister, daejin, off to live in seoul with their aunt.

  ≗ soona's father, also a skillful surgeon. he works night-shift and comes home during the day, only problem is; he takes the whole day to sleep and rarely is able to interact with his daughters. he thought of quitting once but thought it would risk his family's bank account and bills, so instead of always letting his daughters down, he thought of something that might cheer them up for a while until he retires; the scholarship. all soona wanted however was to make his father proud, and being able to sing in front of a stage was enough for her.

  ≗ soona likes to think of her as the twin that was delayed by seven years, they are too alike. their bond is strong that science cannot separate these two. she was the main source of soona auditioning for bighit ent. when she saw flyers on the streets about it, but when she secretly called the number they said auditions were full. but because she was her sister's number one fan, she called the number again (more then twenty times) about begging to slide her sister in somewhere; with lots of determination and persuation, she got her one. she currently works a blog about her sister, and is basically her own sister's manager; telling her what to do and what not to do. soona loves her a lot. ♡

  ✿ AN ENIGMA: soona is an enigma to new faces that are not familiar with her; not sure if they should feel comfortable with her pretty face or fear this eerie-quiet feeling they get around her.
