- ###Than 1:
- * Cancer Society gets to dictate terms of engagement w/ their scouting and battlefield control.
- * Cancer Society has many wincons. .Team Wolverine only has one, and it's hard to force.
- * Overhaul is a delegator. Tries to observe and gain info first before engaging.
- * Both Morel & Overhaul are primed to fight ruthlessly IC.
- * Cancer Society send out smoke clones to scout ahead of them. Then set up smoke cover. Then close to melee after learning about opponents' powers using Overhaul's Confession.
- * Overhaul does not need to be in the same room as somebody to ask them a question
- I have no idea what this scan is supposed to be showing. There's no context, just a hand with a mouth. Nobody even seems to be answering a question on this page. Never assume your judges know as much about your series as you do.
- * Overhaul can heal himself or his teammate given a moment's notice w/ reconstruction quirk.
- * Even if Morel is incapacitated, Overhaul and just fuse with him and steal his powers.
- * Overhaul reshapes environment to create traps / barriers.
- * Morel's smoke lets him track people.
- I'm not exactly sure I'm seeing this in that scan. Like, maybe I could see this scan proving that, but I'm not sure. Try to introduce your feats a little more clearly.
- * Morel can make 50 smoke clones which feed information back to him.
- If you're going to make a claim it's best practice to link the scan that proves it in that section of the text.
- I open the link immediately after "50 combat capable smoke warriors" and it doesn't talk about there being 50 of them, then I realise the relevant scan is actually the next link over. It's kinda confusing. If you say he can make 50, link the scan proving he makes 50 right then and there. Don't wait another sentence to do it.
- * Overhaul can move over 100 kph. Scaling chain to Toga, who scales to a monster, who runs 100kph?
- This is kind of weak. For one thing, Toga isn't shown to outpace the monster in this album. For another, nothing in here shows Overhaul is faster than she is.
- I'd be more deliberate about explaining feats when linking instead of dumping a huge long album and expecting it to speak for itself.
- * Overhaul notices and exploits openings where a speedster with 10x faster perception could not.
- This confused me way more than it should've and it think it again boils down to poor presentation. Rather than a single run on sentence introduce things piece by piece. "Overhaul blitzes X [link], where X is too fast for Y [link]. Y is a speedster who perceived the world 10x slower than normal. [link.]
- * Moves at comparable speeds
- I think "moves at comparable speeds" is a lot weaker than specifically pointing out the instances of them interacting. Like, "trades blows with" or "dodges" or something.
- * Weak Deku scaling
- Yeah sorry I don't buy these.
- * Mirko scaling.
- I'm iffy on these ones too. It doesn't really seem like he's moving at relevant speeds to the bullet.
- I feel like this entire speed section has been throwing uncertain things at the wall and hoping one sticks. You'd be better served honing in one your strongest, most objective speed argument and explaining it in depth than shotgunning like this.
- * Morel's smoke clone deflects close range crossbow bolt. Man himself can tag Cheetu with effort. Cheetu is fast.
- * Morel strength scaling
- This is once again pretty weak. I don't know what "Powerful Blows" means. Tell me what he's doing in that scan and why it is impressive. All I'm seeing is him displacing a modest amount of water.
- The Gon scaling album… doesn't show that. Gon never even makes contact with Morel in that album. Again, scans are your lifeblood. Be more deliberate about how you use them.
- * Overhaul can kill you by impaling you with spikes or disintegrating your body on contact.
- * Morel can kill you by solidifying a smoke prison around you and just holding you there or just beating you up with his smoke clones.
- * Cancer Society bunkers down in a defensible building. Wolverines are reliant on sense of smell to detect them, and they don't have long range showings for that. Spawn points are far away.
- * Wolverines will be led astray and harassed and baffled by smoke clones who even sound human.
- The "straight up speak like humans" link does not show a smoke clone speaking.
- * Smoke warriors are strong
- Where's the strength feat?
- * Once located, Overhaul can just trap Team Wolverines. Tactic to stall and separate them.
- * Logan's speed is inconsistent. Both reactions and travel.
- Yeah this is a pretty good takedown.
- I will say the bit where you claim scaling to dashes is like, weak again because you haven't sufficiently evidenced the relationship between these dudes and why we should consider them slower.
- * Normal humans can track X-23
- I mean she's running right at that guy and she raises her claws to block after the gun is fired IDK what the problem is.
- * Both Wolverines are stunned/floored in their dura feats.
- I think the table feat for X-23 has merit but you haven't really showcased equivilant collateral for your picks as the Wolverine concrete crater.
- * Bunch of potential wincons. Tactics. Synergies. Wolverines stand a good chance of getting split up and confused, picked off solo.
- **Feedback for Than:**
- I already got out a lot of this in-round but yeah what I'd boil it down to is that while you have a really strong grasp of your tactics and synergies you need to work on the meat and potatoes of using scans efficiently and with clarity to demonstrate your dudes do what they say you do.
- If you befuddle a judge with a bunch of MHA scaling without spelling out how they are supposed to read it, chances are it comes off a lot weaker to them than a straightforward "My guy does X [link to them doing X]"
- Try to condense your arguments into the strongest, best evidenced nuggets to give yourself more room to downplay the opponent's picks. You did a very good job picking apart Wolverine's speed antifeats.
- ###Kiryu 1:
- * Logan has good hearing. Logan can track by smell.
- * X-23 can hear heartbeats distant fights.
- * Logan jumps good, scales buildings. X-23 moves FTE.
- * Both have good piercing. Will oneshot Cancer Society on contact.
- * Shadow soldiers are fodder. Wolverines can cut their way out of whatever obstacle gets put in their way.
- * Getting hit doesn't slow Wolverine down. The cop thing isn't an antifeat.
- I think the point was the Wolverine doesn't have fast enough travel speed to exit a room before a normal human can react to pull the trigger.
- * Precise enough to reflect gunfire back at people. Large distance between him and shooters explains why it took so long for him to get there.
- * Antifeat contextualised by Wolverine trying to protect an ally.
- He does still get tagged in the shoulder there.
- I think overall you've done a good job defending Wolverine as having fast reactions, but not fast travel speed.
- **Feedback for Kiryu:**
- Yeah a lot of this is just you getting fucked by reddit. I'd've liked a longer response but I understand why you couldn't give me one.
- I think overall you did a good job disputing what aspects of your opponents' arguments you were able to get to. I would've tried to pay more attention to countering the specific arguments your opponents were making (such as the fact the sensory scans are at indeterminate ranges) but again I get you were in a tough spot. Is what it is.
- ####Than 2:
- * Kiryu's sensory feats are still at close or indeterminate range.
- Yeah.
- * Even if the barriers only slow instead of halting the Wolverines, they're still being effective. Wolverine takes 2 seconds to cut through comparable walls to what Overhaul can create. Morel makes smoke in 1.5 seconds.
- * Overhaul can transform lots of concrete faster than Deku can cover a few metres.
- Now we're talking.
- * Wolverines get stuck in continuous loop of traps wearing them down.
- * something something throw is good. Throwing stuff very fast counts as piercing, wolverines are pierced by bullets.
- Sorry man I think you're reaching. Projectiles in fiction regularly disobey the laws of physics. Cartoon boomerangs travel extremely far compared to their speed. Without objective evidence all we can really say about this is "thrown far."
- I also don't really see that bit of metal as that "jagged" it looks like a pipe or something. It doesn't really matter bc they could easily find sharp debris in an urban environment if they wanted but whatever.
- * Wolverine is forced to stand there and exert himself significantly blocking thrown harpoons
- There you go. I think this is a much more compelling argument that the smoke soldiers stall the wolverines rather than trying to push nebulous projectile speed because a comic book had speedlines.
- * Even if pressed to melee, smoke helps w/ misdirection for dodging claws.
- * Overhaul can heal back non-fatal wounds.
- * Overhaul oneshots with by exploding their bodies.
- * Wolverines get overwhelmed by all the shit going on.
- * Wolverine's RPG is slow because it's a cartoon.
- Yeah…
- * The bullet deflection is just luck.
- The precision needed to deflect them back at attackers kind of contradicts this.
- * Kiryu fails to rebut anti feat of wolverine getting tagged by a barrage.
- * "This is an example of bullet timing as a video-game ability that doesn't really map onto his broader speed."
- I think I'm kind of inclined to agree. It seems like Wolverine is specifically good at intercepting fast projectiles, but his ground movement and general combat speed do not keep pace with that.
- **Than Feedback:**
- I think you're really really good at dissecting your opponents' feats. I find myself for the most part agreeing with your presentation of Wolverine, tho to be fair, Kiryu didn't have a lot of space to press his own interps.
- I think you need to take that meticulousness and apply it back to your own feats. You recognise that RPGs can be slow in fiction because of tropes, and characters can be specifically fast at deflecting projectiles but not very fast otherwise, but then you turn around and try to claim the smoke soldier throwing a pipe is rifle speed because of speed lines.
- All in all I think you absolutely have the right instincts when it comes to tearing down your opponents. Just take some time to anticipate about how you might apply counterarguments to your characters' feats and you'll have a much stronger bedrock.
