- Mel — Today at 10:56
- Hello, I'm coming to interview you now. Are you ready to begin?
- SquidQueen — Today at 10:56
- sure
- Mel — Today at 10:57
- Alright, so we'll start easy. What's your ckey?
- SquidQueen — Today at 10:57
- Lmwevil
- Mel — Today at 10:57
- Ok so. Basic powers you have as a trial mod are:
- Admin PM's ("BWOINK!")
- Aghosting, which allows you to pop out of your body, check something out, then click it or Reenter corpse to get back into your body. It'll show up as your character asleep on their feet the entire time you're aghosted.
- Check AI laws.
- Check Antagonists.
- Checking the date when players joined the server.
- De-Admin, which turns you back into a normal player for a round/however long you need. Hit it again to remod.
- Check player notes, warnings, bans, so on.
- Show player skills.
- Staffwho will now show a lot more
- Wind
- The ability to go into someones player panel and give notes, warnings, tempbans and permabans (once your trial is done)
- Defuse welder tanks by clicking on them.
- You will be able to see ALL LOOCs. A little R will be in brackets for remote ones. You will also have a permanent AOOC as well as being able to read ghostchat at any time.
- Access to MSAY, the Mod/Admin channel.
- Viewing Variables (VV), though you probably won't use this past checking attack logs and such.
- The ability to perma ban will be given when you successfully complete your trial after one month. Do you have any questions at this time?
- SquidQueen — Today at 10:58
- That's all very familiar to me from /tg/ administration tools barring welder tanks and winding
- is the welder tank one for bombs specifically?
- Mel — Today at 10:58
- Yes, its to prevent people walking up to welding tanks and setting them off with a welder.
- SquidQueen — Today at 10:59
- Alright, no questions
- That tool just amused me a little
- Mel — Today at 11:00
- Alright cool. I'm going to ask you a few questions now. In your own words, what do you think validhunting is?
- Take as long as you need btw.
- SquidQueen — Today at 11:02
- Going out of your way to kill a 'valid', aka an antagonist. It's really a combat based lrp thing even moreso if your role isn't doing it etc.
- Complicated answer, but put simple 'going out explicitly to end the round of antags or reveal their presence etc'
- the term valid originated from lrp servers where antags were valid to kill etc
- Mel — Today at 11:03
- Do you think its ever okay to execute an antagonist?
- SquidQueen — Today at 11:04
- Yeah, contextually it happens all the time. Though once they are in custody it's more complicated
- Mel — Today at 11:04
- Could you please explain more?
- SquidQueen — Today at 11:06
- Sure so essentially what I mean is that an antagonist could be executed unintentionally (ashing their head) and so on, in intentional senses it would be from more exceptional circumstances such as they killed most of the crew and can't reasonably be detained and so on
- complicated and conditional stuff
- lethal force of course can kill people even with medical response, and that's - yeah it's complicated
- Mel — Today at 11:08
- Thank you. Could you please explain powergaming?
- SquidQueen — Today at 11:09
- Overly using game mechanics for personal gain, exploiting bugs etc. Easy example was back when people had suitcases spawn in their bag for extra storage, or security hacking doors etc
- It's a little complicated again to explain concisely, but is pretty common sense, a doctor carrying every single medicine they could ever need and also wearing a voidsuit in case of breaches 24/7
- etc
- Mel — Today at 11:15
- nodnod. Ok. So, those questions out of the way, I'm now going to provide you with a sample of questions. You don't have to answer them exactly, there is no right or wrong answer here. Understood?
- SquidQueen — Today at 11:16
- Sure got it
- Mel — Today at 11:16
- Oh wait, sorry, one more question!
- You've experienced burn out in the past. As a trial moderator, you're expected to get many, many tickets, as a stress test. How will you deal with that stress and possible burn out, if it comes?
- SquidQueen — Today at 11:21
- Right okay so I expected that one. Burnout I had on /tg/ was strictly related to the insanely toxic dynamics that were going on at the time. I have taken breaks from Aurora, and did burn out of the lore team eventually, but the complexities of Diona and their place with other lore teams made me feel a little stuck on what to do. That eventually made me burn out and never finish the grand project I had relating to the ocean. As to how I handle burnout, it's usually just by doing literally anything else, just like how one deals with writers block. Doing too much of one thing isn't good for you etc etc
- a little long form but i felt that one warranted a longer answer
- Mel — Today at 11:23
- Alright
- ok scenario time!
- As an Australian, we will be involved in a LOT of low pop rounds. This imaginary scenario is for one of those. You see two random people beating each other up. What do you do?
- Feel free to ask me questions to get a lay of the scenario as well.
- SquidQueen — Today at 11:24
- alright so, it's a lowpop crew, maybe 1 medical person, 1 engineer, maybe 0 to 1 security, that kinda thing?
- i should also ask if it is extended or not and if either is an antagonist
- Mel — Today at 11:26
- Its extended. No antagonists. They're not offship. They're offduty.
- SquidQueen — Today at 11:26
- Gotcha, is it in the holodeck, a spar?
- Assume I ghosted and watch them, is this a lethal fight or a spar
- Mel — Today at 11:26
- Just outside the elevators, near EVA. There's blood. Lots of blood.
- SquidQueen — Today at 11:27
- gotcha, so they're fighting lethally, probably not a spar, just outside of spawn- are their first connections really recent?
- and do i recognize their names?
- Mel — Today at 11:27
- They're both 0 day accounts. You do not know them.
- SquidQueen — Today at 11:28
- yeah this is probably grief or two friends effing around, wind them both and ask what's going on
- Mel — Today at 11:29
- The first person you wind immediately opens up a ticket and asks what the eff is going on. The second person only responds to your ticket with "He started it"
- SquidQueen — Today at 11:30
- I ask #1 why they were fighting
- i ask #2 what did he do to start it?
- meanwhile I check logs to see, did either of them speak at any point or silently begin fighting?
- Mel — Today at 11:32
- #1: I just came out of the lifts to check this server out and this idiot came at me. Said nothing to each other at all man.
- #2: Just dc's.
- SquidQueen — Today at 11:34
- #1 I tell them of the expectations of the server, apologise that they had to deal with a sudden attack on their first try of the server. Aheal them and watch them to see if they try to do anything effy, since I can't prove that they were in on it. (Unless the logs show that they started the fight, then I handle them the same as I do #2)
- #2 issue a ban in accordance with uh, the standard ban protocols. I'm unfamiliar with specific timings or escalations, obvious griefer who dced once being caught, happens all the time
- Mel — Today at 11:36
- Alright. Just as a side, admins are the only ones who can aheal. As a trial, you can't perma either, but you can request others to ban for you, if you provide a ban message. Good!
- SquidQueen — Today at 11:37
- Yeah standard informative ban message as to why, and where they can appeal. Usual boilerplate stuff. I'd probably buzz an admin to aheal then
- Mel — Today at 11:38
- nodnod
- Its a highpop round now. Its escalating accordingly, no one seems to be whining, except in AOOC you see someone go "This is bullshit," then a ticket comes in from a security player that the person in AOOC has disconnected. What do you do first?
- SquidQueen — Today at 11:39
- Alright so antags have escalated, security are doing their usual thing, antag whines that they perhaps got caught out somewhere and then dcs, security then finds their dced body?
- Mel — Today at 11:39
- Mhm.
- SquidQueen — Today at 11:40
- Alright I mean, dcing as an antag just because you lost or whatever feels pretty lame. I'd probably just ask sec what happened from their perspective, and if the antag was in a team when they had a second ask them too
- at most even if they did just ragequit and the blame was entirely on them for effing up or losing etc I feel at most I'd probably note them unless it was a persistent trend
- Mel — Today at 11:42
- Do you check?
- SquidQueen — Today at 11:42
- of course
- do their notes indicate they've done this before?
- Mel — Today at 11:44
- First time offense.
- SquidQueen — Today at 11:44
- Just a note I suppose that dcing as an antag just because you aren't 'winning' is pretty poor form
- Anything more than that feels pretty excessive
- If they were a team antag my note would probably be worded a little harsher b/c it's abandoning the team
- You'll find in my answers I err on the side of low punishment
- Mel — Today at 11:45
- nod
- Anything else to add?
- SquidQueen — Today at 11:46
- Mm, not really. I'd probably buzz the sec guy who ahelped that the person isn't coming back
- just so they know to cryo the person and not wait for them or whatever
- Mel — Today at 11:47
- nodnod!
- Last one.
- Someone joins the round as Barack Biden. What do you do?
- SquidQueen — Today at 11:48
- Pffffffffff
- Bwoink them and just say the name isn't appropriate for the setting, not to use meme names or references and so on
- Do mods have access to the uh, appearance change panel to change the name/accent?
- Mel — Today at 11:51
- You can change peoples names in the VV setting. They give a new name and this one is compliant. The guy apologizes in tickets.
- SquidQueen — Today at 11:52
- No problem then, I change the name and maybe don't even note it honestly, if he's apologetic and genuinely good faith it's just a mistake
- I'm unsure entirely about aurora procedure regarding notes to be clear- on /tg/ we'd usually only note if it was bad faith stuff like that, if it was a genuine mistake it may never be noted
- just thought i'd add
- Mel — Today at 11:55
- We tend to note on everything, just to make sure we have a log of it. Players cannot see their notes unless they request a headmin for it. If someone approaches you, asking for your notes, what would you do?
- SquidQueen — Today at 11:56
- Gotcha, if you note on everything then I'll amend my last and say that I'd note the name change and them being good faith as well.
- I tell them to contact head staff, give them the discord name of alberyk or a link to the discord in general
- Say that only head staff can disclose notes
- Mel — Today at 11:59
- Alright, if there's nothing else, I'll post this on the forums. Are you alright with that?
- SquidQueen — Today at 11:59
- Yeah go ahead
